Good. Follows two people who used to date and how they bump into each other and are forced to spend time together, whilst also dealing with friends and family on a long road trip. Shows how they broke up and that everything was not what it seemed and how they deal with the truth.

Morning routine — spend time reading that I would have otherwise spent on a commute. One of my favorite parts of the day. Thanks to whoever out there suggested this years ago during the pandemic because it‘s helped a lot. And as I still wfh, I feel fortunate to be able to continue to carve out this time each morning.

I enjoyed this second chance at love romance! Addie embarks on a road trip to rural Scotland to attend a friend‘s wedding with her fierce sister, a random stranger, the ex who broke her heart, and his a**hole best friend. Told in alternating timelines, “then” and “now,” the story of Addie and her ex, Dylan, unfolds bit by bit.

Not my favourite Beth O‘Leary - there should have been less time on the early days of the relationship and more on when it started to break down - but damn, she can rip your heart to shreds!

Definitely not as good as The Flatshare or The Switch. It was engaging enough that I enjoyed listening to it while waiting at the doctor‘s office & in the car.

I loved this book. The author is great at writing such engaging characters. This time it‘s the road trip from hell up to a wedding in rural Scotland. The story is told from the two protagonists‘ views, with “then” and “now” tellings. It‘s a funny, sweet story of imperfect people and how they grow with time, therapy, and maturity. I really loved this one.

Imagine a road trip to a wedding trapped in a car with your over protective sister, a random guy you found on Facebook, your ex who broke your heart and his best friend. I really enjoyed this book and its likable characters (except Marcus) and the way things were revealed as the road trip progressed. The main characters are flawed, dealing with their insecurities and traumas.
The conclusion of the story was poignant, emotional, and perfect.⭐⭐⭐⭐

I never felt the chemistry, it was so hard to understand why Dylan & Addie ended up together. Past timeline felt toxic and in the present timeline I couldn't feel their chemistry.

I think I liked present timeline more: it was funny and light.

I was a bit sceptic when I saw how long this was and again I noticed how romances should never be this long. This started slowly but was interesting enough to continue reading.

#SeriesRead2022

AnnR Well said, about how romances shouldn't be long. I don't think I could make it through a 400+ page romance novel now. 1y

Last night at 2 AM, I started this book and it‘s really good so far. From what I understand about this book, 2 exes are riding in the car together because they‘re on their way to a wedding. I don‘t know who‘s getting married. I‘m interested to find out how they‘re going to deal with riding in the car together. This book is written from the ex boyfriend and ex girlfriend‘s point of view.

Finished this one last night. It was between a so-so and a pick but am rating it a so-so. I was interested in the story but did not like Dylan from the past, or Marcus in the past and present. So... But not a bad second chance romance.

Addie and her sister are about to go on a road trip to their friends wedding in Scotland. Clothes packed, music sorted, snacks prepped, as they set off a car slams into the back of theirs - it‘s Addies ex boyfriend. They end up sharing a car journey to Scotland.
The storyline to start was soft, laugh out loud and entertaining but as I got further into the book the story became angsty, emotional and powerful..a real heartfelt read.

2.5⭐ The characters were all varying degrees of annoying and infuriating; I don't like attempted rape as a plot device to break up the main couple; no one was as charming as the author seems to think they are. But I kept reading so that's something.

A cute romance novel in which a couple who have split up end up in the same car on the way to a friend‘s wedding. Can they resolve their issues and admit they still have feelings for each other?? The one thing I did not love was a clearly toxic friendship, which was addressed in a fairly ridiculous way. But overall, very sweet.

I‘m giving this a “pick” but not as strongly as for the author‘s previous two which I loved. The idea of two exes on a road trip with three other people is a good one, and there were funny moments. But Marcus, the friend, is just awful and the fact that he‘s Dylan‘s closest friend was not in Dylan‘s favor! My main issue is a spoiler I‘ll put in comments.

This is my #DoubleSpin for September @TheAromaofBooks

MallenNC The reason for the couple‘s breakup is that Addie gets sexually assaulted but before she can tell Dylan, he believes the worst about Addie until her sister tells him the truth. I really hated that and honestly didn‘t find it forgivable so I wasn‘t rooting for Addie to take him back. They needed to find closure and move on! 3y
TheAromaofBooks I started to read this one a couple of months ago but just couldn't get into it - a disappointment, because I really enjoyed O'Leary's first two books. It was due back at the library so I sent it back unread. It's still on my TBR for someday, but it didn't capture me like her other books did. 3y
MallenNC @TheAromaofBooks I think if it had been by a different author I might have been more forgiving. 3y

I had very high expectations for this one because I love O‘Leary‘s other works,&I know people loved this, but it‘s not for me. I didn‘t like a single character, was completely unmoved with their falling in love flashbacks,&very stressed out thinking of all these people in a very hot, small car running very late for a wedding. I did like the ending & the focus on mental health. O‘Leary will continue to be a must read for me, though.

I‘ve been seeing really mixed reviews for this one. I quite liked it, but I don‘t think the romcom/serious issues balance worked as well in this book as it did in The Flatshare. The main characters are in their early 20s and the mistakes they make in their relationship and personal lives make sense given their immaturity. The road trip framework was fun even if the obstacles got a bit far fetched. I couldn‘t stand Marcus‘s character though. 3.5 ⭐️
