I have been a fan of Prince since I was a teenager. His music was the soundtrack to my life. I wanted to love this book, but it really was unfinished. I enjoyed the pictures and notes about them, but other than that, I was disappointed.

Bittersweet, the story of an artist who we lost too soon. Filled with fascinating stories and personal photos, this book of memories shows you a side of Prince that he often kept to himself. I had hoped for a little more but this was enough. Book #180 of 2020. #farewellsweetprince

Prince‘s book about himself (he didn‘t want to label it a memoir) became an unrealized dream; he passed away before its completion. A memorable phrase from Prince‘s notes: he wanted people to create!! First you create your day! Then you create your life...Prince was the epitome of self-creation/reinvention

I‘m not a huge Prince fan but enjoyed some of his music. The book was pretty good in giving some background of his childhood, some good photos along with some of his own writings when starting the memoir. He died shortly after the book was started so of course it definitely feels like an abrupt ending to the book also. I enjoyed it but not the best autobiography I‘ve read.

I am a lifelong Prince fan. I really enjoyed this book, Dan's insights into his meetings with Prince and how he found him to be. The absolute highlights of the books were the pages written in Prince's own handwriting and words and seeing some of the photos/mementos he had kept and treasured throughout his life. A good read for any Prince fan it gives insights into the man behind all the fame and a delightful look at his life through his own eyes.

There‘s a bit of bias here as “Purple Rain” was one of the first records I had as a little kid, but I loved this book. Prince passed away before he could write much of his memoirs, and the co-author did a great job putting everything together. A brilliant use of photographs of Prince, and photographs taken by Prince.

Great book, would have been interested to see how this evolved had Prince completed it.

Needing to catch up on some reviews today. This book is a little controversial but I thought it was wonderful. I'm not a hardcore fan at all, but I do feel that Prince was a large part of the soundtrack of my adolescence and so remembered fondly. It's not a memoir. Prince had only written a few pages about his childhood before he died. But he was planning to write a memoir and had begun gathering bits and pieces. ⬇️

Just one day after posting my #WeeklyForecast I've had to shift plans because this book that I very much want to read will be due at the library at the end of the month. It has so many holds there will be no chance for renewal, so it must be squeezed into February! 💜

I really enjoyed this book. I have been a Prince fan since I was a young and I felt like this book really did him justice. I love that Prince‘s co author was able to make such a true to the artist book despite Prince passing before finishing . I enjoyed reading about the author‘s time getting to know Prince as well as Prince‘s own words. Prince was such a private person yet you get to know enough of him to be satisfied yet not invade his privacy.

The Beautiful Ones refer to eyes, like his mothers, who Prince seems to look up to, and love deeply. With many insightful passages and quotes from Prince, this is a memoir that will make you feel, somehow, closer to the mystery known as Prince.

I did enjoy this but, maybe because it was never really finished by Prince, it has a disjointed and rushed feel. Essential for fans, a great read for the rest!

⭐️⭐️ This is less a memoir by Prince, more an article written by Dan Piepenbring. The audio is only 3 hours long, so I checked out a physical copy from the library afterward. It‘s loaded with photos and notes and such. If this had been completed prior to Prince‘s untimely death, it could‘ve been brilliant. This is just a bunch of stuff thrown together. Not enough material nor substance.

I finished listening to this on audio today, and I find rating this hard because I have some issues. The audio is 3 hrs and ca 55% of the book is an introduction by editor Dan Piepenbring and he is telling about how he got the job as Prince editor. Before Prince died he had written 10p of his memoir/ book and those pages are interesting. Then the book ends with a lot of Prince quotes found in different magazines. For me it was too little Prince.

Thank you, Prince. Thanks for being unapologetically you. Thanks for inspiring us to create. Thanks for staying in Minnesota. Thanks for everything you've shared with us. You had so much more to share. We miss you. I hope you're finding peace in purple paradise. ☔☮️💜

I forgot that I pre-ordered Prince's book awhile back! It's full of photos, scrapbook and lyrics sheets and the memoir he began writing before his death.
