Finished my cross stitch travel poster today while listening to Trunk Music by Michael Connelly. Not quite done with the book, but I wanted to show off my project. I've been working on it about 4 weeks. I still need to iron it, so it's a little wonky, but I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I'm going to start an Isla Nublar (Jurassic Park) travel poster next.

I finished my PoA reread on an #audiowalk through a cool-looking neighbourhood.

I tried to start WE HUNT THE FLAME afterwards, but my mum called to tell me they might‘ve found a body in the abandoned golf course where I walk all the time. It was a bit hard to concentrate after that. Hopefully the police presence was down to something else.

Casey and I went on a longer #audiowalk this morning to take advantage of the relatively decent weather (by which I mean it was 12 instead of 1 or 2). Unfortunately, everything‘s still pretty goopy. We passed by a lot of snowfields—the curve of the ground hides most of a big one on the left of this picture—and navigated a few stretches where the path was still snowed over. Poor Casey got filthy from all the spongy grass, too. Sigh.

I promised Casey a sunset #audiowalk, and I delivered. He charged all over the neighborhood and sniffed EVERYTHING; I made some solid progress on my Harry Potter reread.

This novel marks the first of the middle three stories of the series that I love. All three of them are my absolute favourites.

I love Harry‘s friendship with Ron and Hermione, introduced to one of my favourite characters Remus Lupin and Harry‘s relationship with Sirius begins.

As I reread HP for a twenty-ishth time (couldn‘t help myself), I just noticed something. Not sure if this has been discussed anywhere before but it seems weird to me that Dementors affected Harry to the degree he lost consciousness. Upon rereading, I realized that, of course, Harry had another (part of a) soul inside him at that time. And that soul was damaged beyond repair. That must be the true answer! 💡😎

Why I Chose this: I chose this book after reading the first two books in the series and being intrigued in the concept
Summary: Harry Potter, a young wizard in training, is starting his third year at Hogwarts. As he starts another odd year at this school, he finds out the Sirius Black, a wizard gone bad, has escaped from Azkaban prison and is now after Harry to tie up Voldemort's loose ends.

As a teacher, this part of the year is the hardest. By the end of next week, I‘ll have almost 250 reports and exams to mark.

All I‘ve wanted to do every day coming home from work is to read but instead, I was so mentally and physically exhausted today I literally sat in the supermarket carpark for two hours with my groceries in the trunk and had a nana-nap.

FYI - I‘m reading a chapter before bed now 😁

THIS is where Harry Potter starts for me. It's the shift to a little more darkness, to Harry truly having to make some tough decisions, to him finding out what REALLY happened to his parents (those memories at the demontors' hands are so brutal and yet the only real memories he has of his parents in their last moments). (continued in comments)

UnabridgedPod It's when Harry sees that truly bad things really can still happen in the wizarding world, when he moves past his escapes from Voldemort to realize that Buckbeak can be put to death, that the demontors can give the kiss to Sirius. Absolutely brilliant. 2mo

I have now both re-read and re-watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets--I'm making slow but satisfactory progress in my goal to re-read the series (for the first time!). I've come to realize how much the films are tied up in my memories of the books. Because my boys have watched and re-watched the movies (and I've watched with them, of course), they often take precedence in my memory of the series. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod I said in my review of Sorcerer's Stone that these early books (and movies) aren't my favorite, and that still holds true. What re-watching films 1 and 2 has shown me, though, is what a deep appreciation I have for the books. Those first two movies take *most* of the big plot points, but they leave out the delicious details that Rowling builds in the novels. ⬇️ 2mo
UnabridgedPod Everything is SO fast in these first movies that we lose some of the character development that I appreciate in the novel. It takes a LONG time for Harry to get to Hogwarts in Chamber of Secrets--in the movie, it's no time at all. And yet, we miss the way that Harry's knowledge of his family history has altered the way he interacts with the Dursleys, and we don't feel as much his loneliness at not having heard from Ron and Hermione. ⬇️ 2mo
UnabridgedPod That means, of course, that we don't feel quite as much the impact Dobby's intervention has had on him

Anyway, it's not going to be a shock to anyone when I say that the book is so much better . . . but wow, it really is. Chamber of Secrets powerfully draws for readers a portrait of Voldemort's charisma and his power to manipulate--we see the true insidiousness of his villainy here. ⬇️
2mo
UnabridgedPod And we see the Malfoys as more than just unpleasant rivals but as murderous and evil accomplices to Voldemort's worst goals. Is this novel perfect? No. But oh my goodness, it's so good. Can't wait for book 3.⠀

Note: My twelve-year-old wanted to help with this photo--he decided that his door would be the perfect backdrop. 😁
