Thanks for the tag @RaeLovesToRead

Well, to those who haven't read this one yet - just don't!

Not only is this a very toxic relationship with BDSM gone wild, the quality of the writing is also subpar.

jamield1911 It is SO BADLY written! 12mo

Went on an impulse trip to Barnes and Noble and got myself some goodies! I got there an hour before they closed, so I was on a time crunch, but I‘m super proud of the variety I was able to snag. Fantasy, historical fiction, mystery/crime, horror, romance…spicy romance 🔥 I can‘t wait to dig in!

I‘m old fashioned, sappy kind of romantic 😅 #two4tuesday
1. I just love roses! The scent, the colour, it‘s just so beautiful!
2. There are just too many to list down as I love reading romance novels! I guess 50 Shades, don‘t judge ya, would be one that hits my mind, not for the writing but more for the love story 😘
@TheSpineView

TheSpineView I agree with you on #2. While the writing was not the best the story was compelling. Thanks for playing! 2y

I bought this book out of a charity shop for 1€. It was worth so much more. I couldn‘t put this book down as this book does not only build up ones sexual tensions but also sheds light on peoples unique relationships in a fun and quirky way. I cannot wait to read the next one ! Would 1000% recommend. #11 read book one of a trilogy

I read enough to know I hated this book. My husband bought it for me and I threw it in the recycling bin. This is the worst written book I‘ve ever read in my entire life. The characters were ridiculous and the writing was on the level of a functionally illiterate Neanderthal. I didn‘t know whether to laugh or roll my eyes, so I ended up laughing while rolling my eyes. I wish I could delete this piece of literary manure from my memory for all time.

Well I mean you did tell him earlier to show you how bad it can be. Am I wrong for criticizing Ana here?

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I haven't read any of these. That said, I'm judging her but at the same time wondering if she's so naive that she expected nothing more than a few light smacks. If she's crying so hard that she's wiping a snotty nose on a robe, how does that get a man to go from 6 to midnight? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 4y

Alright I‘m going there. Anastasia and Christian - I am calling them out. The toxic relationship of changing so much for each other and then the reliance on each other just is ridiculous. I get that it‘s Twilight fan fic but there‘s a reason why Twilight is fantasy. It just didn‘t translate well for me as adult erotic fiction. #lovehate #worstcouple

A miraculous thing happened tonight.... my 23 year old daughter called and asked me for book suggestions!!! This has NEVER happened!! She has read Fifty Shades and loved it (I hated it 🤢🤮) and some Nicholas Sparks... What do y‘all suggest?? I‘ve got NS covered, but I‘m at a loss with the other genre 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ Help!!!!!!

EclecticBookLover If she likes Nicholas Sparks try Jane Green. I would start with Second Chance or The Beach House. Elin Hildebrand is also good. 6y
wanderinglynn If she likes NS, what about Nora Roberts? 6y
Pamwurtzler Give her something good - I‘d say Beatriz Williams. Or Elin Hildebrand is good too 6y
See All 29 Comments
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @EclecticBookLover I have lots of Elin Hilderbrand!! I think she liked the other ones better... 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Pamwurtzler I tried suggesting Evelyn, but she wasn‘t going for it... I can‘t bear to have her not like Beatriz 💚💚 6y
YouReadMyEyes Haha. She would probably like Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. 6y
mcipher Jennifer Crusie? Super light funny romance. 6y
IamIamIam I'm out of my depth with those criteria but what about Cecilia Ahern? I read PS I Love You, but the movie was better. LOL... what about this? 6y
tammysue You may try Jodi Picoult or Emily Giffin. My daughter and her friends enjoy their books (and hey our daughters are the same age 😉) 6y
xicanti Tiffany Reisz and Rebekah Weatherspoon both write GOOD BDSM. She should try them next. 6y
EclecticBookLover If she prefers NS to Elin, then I would definitely go Jane Green. Her early stuff is focused on younger people early 20s but her middle stuff like The Beach House is more middle age focused, but with a broad appeal. 6y
Theshadedbuffalo Maya Banks writes a lot of the Shades of Grey like books. 6y
Cinfhen My daughter LOVED this book 6y
Cinfhen She also loves Karin Slaughter and she liked 6y
Cinfhen Also Gone Girl & Girl on the train and 6y
Melkyl My daughter also loves NS (fortunately, she hated 50 shades 👏) and one of her favorites is 6y
Nebklvr Has she read Jodi Picoult? She seems to have a lot of crossover love with Nicholas Sparks 6y
SaturnDoo I say go here http://www.literature-map.com/e-2e+l-2e+james.html and litetature map will give you authors that are similar in writing and style 😁 6y
JMEdwards @SaturnDoo that link is great! 6y
Sophoclessweetheart Oh dear. Can‘t help I‘m afraid. 6y
Caroline2 I would recommend Sarah J Maas! 👍🏻 (edited) 6y
BooknerdsLife My sister was not a big reader but loved Big Little Lies and What Alice Forgot. And Sarah J Maas's A Court of Thornes & Roses series is great choice too🤗💜 6y
amb I endorse the Jodi Picoult recommendation , her stuff is rarely straight romance, but it can make you cry. 6y
Soubhiville If she would be into fantasy and lots of political intrigue, Kushiel‘s Dart is the first of a trilogy (and there are three trilogies in this world). They show a different side of BD/SM that most consider healthier and more realistic, even though it‘s fantasy. 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thanks everyone!!! I‘m going to screenshot these suggestions and send them to her!!! 🙌🏻💕 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @swishandflick I actually liked these better that fifty shades!! 6y
SaturnDoo @JMEdwards I have been using literature map for a long time and I love it 😁 6y

I must admit I did like the fifty shades trilogy when I read it years ago but I‘ve been avoiding the movies cause I just didn‘t think the books needed to be made into movies but I‘ve given up and I‘m going to binge watch. I‘ve heard mixed reviews so I hope they‘re not too terribly cringeworthy

AllenTStClair I‘ve actually seen the first two...and they‘re okay if you keep perspective on what type of movies they are. 🤣 6y

This is what I immediately thought of for #StalkerKindOfLove - I read the first book when literally everyone seemed to be reading it (including my grandma) but I could barely get through it - to me it‘s so badly written and their relationship is seriously destructive. I can‘t believe the series and film are so successful but I don‘t like to judge other people‘s tastes so I‘m glad some do like it I guess !
#HeartsAndHardcovers

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m with you, I read it then too. And I felt like it was Red Flag city, I was waiting for her to be kidnapped and sold into slavery somewhere (like Taken), but I read the whole original trilogy hoping I‘d at least understand the fervor, and I do.. it‘s the kinky sex, the rest is just horrible writing and bad relationships. 6y
Christine11 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Totally agree with you - the whole relationship seemed so abusive and like you say, it must be the sex that makes it so popular because it can‘t be the awful writing, plus none of the characters were even vaguely likeable least of all the main two ! 😊 6y
julesG It was my first thought, too. I'm grossing myself out reading 'Darker' right now, second book from Christian's POV. It's soo bad, it isn't even a #guiltypleasure. 6y
See All 16 Comments
julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think EL James was lucky to be able to make it to mass market. There are far better kinky books out there and were on the market before 50 Grades of Shame. It helped make Literotica popular but it is definitely not the first, nor the best, series on the market. 6y
Christine11 @julesG I‘m not sure I could handle hearing his point of view - hers was annoying enough ! You‘re totally right - it‘s not a genre I read a lot of but I‘m betting there are really well written or at least more enjoyable books and I feel bad for those authors that Fifty Shades has been so overwhelming successful! 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I can‘t either.... I forced myself through the first one... 6y
Christine11 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I had to force myself to finish it too - I wanted to throw it at the wall 😂 6y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I couldn‘t agree more!!!! 6y
AndiM The 1st film was awful! Not looked at others. 6y
Christine11 @AndiM It was terrible wasn‘t it ?! I have no idea how they are so popular! 6y
AndiM @Christine11 I watched it whilst merrily doing my ironing... that's how exciting it was..😂😂😂 6y
Christine11 @AndiM I don‘t think even the actors thought it was any good ! 😂🙄 6y
AndiM @Christine11 I don't know Dakota, but I thought that the guy Jamie?was great in a series with the woman who was Scully. You can tell I don't watch much tv 😂😂😂 6y
Christine11 @AndiM It was The Fall I think 😊 and I agree - he was fantastic in that series - wish he hadn‘t done 50 shades ! 😊💗 6y

There are many popular things I have not read or delayed significantly. Fifty shades of Grey is one I will never read. I've also never read anything by Stephen King, because Horror is not really my thing, but I might eventually read something. I delayed reading he Harry Potter books and was disappointed by the first, finding it terribly derivative, but the next couple were better. One day I'll read the rest, probably with my son @ItsAngel

ItsAngel @DivaDiane I‘m right there with you on 50 Shades, I will never read it. Kind has quite a bit that‘s not really horror, maybe you‘ll find something perfect when the time is right. 6y
DivaDiane @ItsAngel Oh yes, I always forget his Science Fiction/Fantasy (?) which I'm definitely intrigued by, but I think he's better known for all those books that were made into Horror flicks when I was a teenager (Carrie, Pet Semetary, Cujo - showing my age...) and that's not my cup of tea. 6y
ItsAngel @DivaDiane I think you‘re right, he is definitely more known for the horror stuff. King is very hit or miss for me...he is wordy to a fault. 6y

For my next selection of #februaryisforromantsy here's the Big Kahuna! I grew up reading #romantsy but I had kind of been in a romance rut - I wasn't feeling the Harlequins anymore, and couldn't find my flavor in the early #selfpub selection. 50 Shades jump started me again, it caught my imagination like nothing else had. It's not perfect (could use a good edit, and some of the Grey antics are squicky) but it's a juggernaut. #meghanreadsromantsy
