It only took one night to tear a family apart. Artist and illustrator Edwina Spinner used to have a busy family life. Now she lives alone, in a house that has grown too big for her. She has decided to sell it. As Edwina takes the estate agent from room to room, she finds herself transported back to her life as a young mother. Back to her twins, Rowena and Charlie, and a stepson she cannot bring herself to mention by name. As the house reveals its secrets, Edwina is forced to confront her family's past, and a devastating betrayal that changed everything. But Edwina doesn't know the whole story. And to discover the truth, she will have to face the one person she vowed never to see again.

Oh lord. I haven‘t even boxed half my books and I‘m already overwhelmed by boxes.

Remind me again how you all cut down your book collections?

#moving #ohno

wanderinglynn I did it before I moved & it was hard. I basically sorted my books into 3 piles: (1) absolute keepers (signed, special editions, favorites I reread), (2) books I‘d already read, and (3) TBR. For pile 2, I considered whether I‘d be likely to reread it. If not, it went into the giveaway pile. For pile 3, I considered how long I had it & the likelihood of me reading it in the next 6 mos. The older the book, the more likely it went into the pile 👇🏻 8mo
wanderinglynn because it was likely that older books I could easily check it out of the library. I tried to keep in mind that I wasn‘t giving up my books, but spreading the love of reading to other people. I ended up sharing over 100 books. Although it was hard, it felt good to cleanse my shelves. 8mo
diovival @wanderinglynn that's a really nice way to look at letting go 8mo
See All 7 Comments
wanderinglynn @diovival Thanks. ☺️ And it also opened quite a bit of space for new acquisitions! 😉 8mo
CaliforniaCay I second what @wanderinglynn said, it's hard to whittle down your collection but look at it as you spreading the love ❤❤❤ I've been donating ones I dont want to little free libraries, or giving then to friends 🤗 8mo
SkeletonKey @wanderinglynn @CaliforniaCay - I‘ve let go of about 800 so far but I‘m still over 2000, I‘d LIKE to be under 1000 but... good lord, lol. It‘s hard to put all these in piles but I‘ll try to keep the “will I actually read this soon” part in mind! 8mo
CaliforniaCay 800 so far wow! That's quite a feat. No wonder it's so overwhelming for you. But atleast you're making progress. If you're really at a loss you can always do a litsy giveaway 😉 8mo

Life update since I haven‘t been as active on here lately: my life is chaos rn. Still working on cert exams. Still applying for new jobs. Still packing. Still getting beat up. BUT! We close on the house on Wednesday & move in on Saturday. We got info on getting the child into counseling ASAP to help with things. And two weeks until spring break! (&

Packing up my books to move to my new apartment. I have to leave quite a few behind because I just won't have the space. It makes me extremely sad to part with some of my dearest reads.

Thank you so much @squirrelbrain for the surprise package. Sorry I've only just got to it. I've been in limbo between two houses!

#LitsyHugs

Looking forward to reading this and it's so perfect as I am packing the last of my stuff for my move this week!

squirrelbrain I didn‘t know you were moving - good job it got there in time! And how funny it‘s a book about moving! Hope the move is going OK - you‘ll have to let me have your new address sometime...📦📚📦📚 1y
daydreamin_star @squirrelbrain fortunately the address you have is my mum's so it will always end up in my hands somehow 😉 1y
daydreamin_star @squirrelbrain where I'm moving to isn't a permanent place to stay but I'll let you know the new address once I am somewhere more permanent :) for now just setting up a redirect 😊 1y

I didn‘t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did it was one that‘s sat on my kindle for a while and I‘m so glad I decided to start it. The story, told from various perspectives, is really interesting and captivating. Shows that one night can change a whole host of people‘s lives forever. Would recommend!

In the last 30 years, twice. Maybe a mile. 20 - 25? Maybe if we decide to retire in Central Oregon. In my current home since 98. I hate to move, but I am a control freak so will do it myself.

#packingdistraction
1. 3 times as a child, 19 times as an adult (not counting “moving” in/out of college since I lived in a dorm)
2. 3,092 miles PA to CA (made a slight detour on my way to the west coast)
3. varies between 8-12 - but this last move has motivated me to reduce the load since VA is not my final destination & book boxes are heavy
4. 👆🏻
5. YAY! I‘ve done it by myself and with movers. Movers are definitely worth it.

JoScho I hear movers are worth it. Think we might have to splurge on that this time. 📦❤️ 1y
wanderinglynn @JoScho They are so worth it. I‘m single, so doing it completely on my own is often not an option. I recommend using Thumbtack or Hire a Helper - it‘s a great way to get a decent price. And also read reviews. While you have to take some reviews with a grain of salt, I find it a good way to weed out the not-so-good movers. And so far, I‘ve had pretty good experiences. 1y
JoScho Thanks so much for the info! 1y

@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Oh goodness!!! I will need a big one!!! 😳😳🤣😂 What does he do on all of those?! 2y
Kaye He repairs computers, so this is all his test equipment and extra computers he uses, plus he‘s into ham radio, so needless to say, he‘s got lots of STUFF if you‘re removing all electronics. Good luck. Better come when he‘s not home. 😁 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Kaye hahaha!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 2y
AmyG @Kaye Your husband does this? Wow. Where was he when my kids were in high school downloading nonsense and screwing up our computers. 😳 2y
Kaye @AmyG Funny. That‘s been a famous saying in our house for decades. Don‘t download any crap. He has cleared out so many computers with viruses and clogged with all sorts of stuff. The grossest one had hundreds of porn websites on it. Disgusting dirty old man. The guy was about 75 who owned that one. He can repair anything that plugs into a wall. But don‘t ask him to fix the plumbing. Not worth a nickel in that area. 🙃. (edited) 2y

When we knew we were moving (to the city I work in...yay, no more 1.5hr commute!), my husband told me I had to move my books. As soon as I had possession of the new place, I faithfully lugged up all my books to my new apartment, a little at a time, each day, for a week. I'm paper books all the way!
FYI...books and yarn were the first thing into the apartment...pretty good start, eh?
