This book tells of Billy going from a crime reporter to aiding police departments with unsolved crimes using social media and helping to solve ten murder cases as a result. I enjoyed this, esp hearing Billy‘s experience working alongside Michelle McNamara and their hunt for the Golden State Killer. I wasn‘t keen on the ‘how to‘ guide at the end with his advice on becoming a ‘citizen detective‘ but other than that a great read for true crime fans!

First book I‘ve read by this author but I felt instantly drawn to his style of writing and read it fairly quickly. It‘s told from a number of different perspectives and although I did like hearing from various characters, I found some parts slightly repetitive and unnecessary because of the retelling of the story. I didn‘t find it as full of twists and turns as I was expecting but it was creepy and it kept my attention throughout!

My first Agatha Christie book and I wasn‘t disappointed. I very much like books set in the current day so the fact that ‘And Then There Were None‘ was published in 1939 made me question whether it would be my cup of tea but I needn‘t have worried, it seems a good mystery stands the test of time! I can definitely see why, over 100 years on, Agatha Christie still holds the title of the Queen of Crime!

This book will stay with me for a long time. It tells the story of Tara who grew up in a devout Mormon family in Idaho where she didn‘t attend school, and what happens over the years to lead to her earning her doctorate from Cambridge. At times the book is distressing, even more so when you remember this isn‘t fiction, this was Tara‘s life. A truly fascinating read and what a brave lady to tell her story.

I‘m a huge Tana French fan and found, despite it being a standalone, you could tell this was definitely her distinct hand. I enjoyed the story and didn‘t want to put it down. However I wasn‘t hugely fussed on the ending, I felt for such a lengthy book it tied up a little too quickly at the end. Still a great read and fans of French won‘t be disappointed. Not so much a thriller though, more a family drama with a mystery element to it.

I loved the second in this series even more than the first. Totally hooked! The characters are well developed and while there was one storyline I wasn‘t a fan of in this one, overall I was a big fan of this book and can‘t wait to read the next in the series! Really recommend for fans of thriller/police procedural books!

This is the second book I‘ve read by this author and it definitely won‘t be the last; I‘m now on a mission to work my way through her back catalogue. A sad but moving story of what happens when you find ‘the one‘ only to lose them just as quickly and how you move on from a loss that great. Beautifully written. It made me cry and I don‘t think the pregnancy hormones can be blamed this time. It leaves you wanting to hug your loved ones very tightly.

Beckys_Books I read One True Loves by the same author and don't think I'm ready for any of her other books. 5y

I loved ´Me Before You‘ and I found the next in the series to be a little disappointing, a good book but nowhere near as good as the first so I wasn‘t sure what to think going into this one. Glad to say I was pleasantly surprised, I enjoyed being back in Louisa‘s world. Loved the setting of New York and while there were parts of the story I didn‘t love and found too far fetched, overall I really enjoyed it! A nice read for fans of ‘Me Before You‘.

The first in what I think will become one of my favourite series of crime/police books! Set in Edinburgh it follows the story of French/Scottish DI Callanach as he tries to prove himself in his new team. Very much sets the scene and builds the characters and their relationships and I look forward to seeing what happens to them in coming books. Really enjoyed the story and can‘t wait to read more in this series.

Torn as to my thoughts on this one. I was totally gripped for maybe the first 2/3 and couldn‘t put it down but then once you figure out what‘s happening i feel it loses momentum and becomes a bit too far fetched (for me at least). It has a bit of the Saw movies feel to it and is a good ‘whodunnit‘ but the last third definitely lost my interest a bit. Still definitely worthy of a read but not as good an ending as I had hoped based on the start.

I found this to be an interesting story. The beautiful setting definitely helped to make it. The big twist wasn‘t quite as exciting as I‘d hoped but I still enjoyed the book. Admittedly I wasn‘t a huge fan of the ending though, would have liked the last chapter to have gone differently. The film rights have been bought and I think it‘ll transfer beautifully to the screen.

This book is a twist on your standard thriller, told from the point of view of the stalker. In theory I should have loved it, but to be honest I didn‘t. It was pretty explicit in parts (both violently and sexually) but my issue with it was around the characters. Individually they were interesting but as a collective group I found them all just ‘too much‘ to be believable. This has great reviews so I think I‘m in the minority with my views on it.

There were parts I enjoyed and I wanted to keep reading to see what happened. While I liked that they weren‘t your stereotypical female characters I also found sections of the story to be far fetched and thought the ending was a bit ridiculous. I was expecting to find it funny but for the most part I found myself cringing rather than laughing. It seems to get rave reviews so I‘m wondering if it‘s only me that wasn‘t completely blown away by it?

This is undoubtedly one of the best books I‘ve read in years. The story of Lucy and Gabe and how their lives intertwine over the years really got to me. They say you never really stop loving your first love and this book would be testament to that. It‘s a love story, showing the magnitude of first love and the impact it can have on the rest of your life and all the ‘could have beens‘ that come after that. I broke my heart reading it.

Torn on my thoughts on this one. Couldn‘t put it down but more through curiousity than anything else. It had a very gone girl vibe to it at the beginning so I‘m pleased it took a different turn. I didn‘t find the twist particularly believable nor shocking and I also wasn‘t a fan of the ending. It seemed to all tie together a little too easily. Most people seem to have loved this one though so I think I‘m in the minority with my concerns.

I‘ve enjoyed all of these books and I actually think the author has done a great job taking over an already wonderful series, however I feel the plot in this one lacked some of the excitement from the previous books. It wasn‘t a bad story but I felt it was just building and then it was over. I love the characters of Lisbeth and Mikael though and they shone through as always. Enjoyed it but probably didn‘t love it as much as the others.

I really enjoyed this book! The only thing I wasn‘t keen on was the pages of tweets, although I understood the cultural significance of a ‘trial by twitter‘ I didn‘t feel they really added anything to the story and by the end I was skimming them. I recognised that there was going to be a twist but I definitely didn‘t guess it which is always a sign of a good book for me 👌🏻 Looking forward to reading the next in the series 😀

I didn‘t dislike this but I didn‘t overly love it either which I‘m disappointed about as it‘s one I had wanted to read for a while. The storyline had potential but it didn‘t pack the suspense that I felt it should have. At times i felt it was more aimed at a YA audience. The ending, although good, seemed too rushed after a long middle. I wouldn‘t say not to read it but I wouldn‘t highly recommend it either.

I really enjoyed this book (despite the dark subject matter) and think it says a lot about her husband that he ensured it was finished and published after she was gone, though I can‘t help but wonder how it would have read had she had the time to finish editing and writing it herself. It did jump about quite a bit which I suspect it wouldn‘t have done had McNamara been able to finish it herself. A great book though. A sad loss to the writing world.
