Number 12 in the series was another slow burn for the first half, but the payoff in the last part was worth it.

I just finished reading this, the 12th book in the Inspector Gamache series. The thing I love most about Louise Penny's books is that they're not just mysteries- she writes in such a descriptive and thoughtful way that you're truly invested in the lives of the characters and the community of Three Pines. I wasn't entirely sure where this one was going, and the end left me a little misty-eyed.

This 12th in the series starts in November and continues through til summer. Lots of snow in this one so it worked well for #wintergames and the word search. Excellent continuation with the characters I‘m deeply invested in, new characters I hope to hear more from, and a mystery with twists and turns. 5⭐️ #snowangels

Three Pines #12

Loved this installment in the Armand Gamache series. We have followed Gamache to his new job, commander at the Surete (police) academy and there is corruption, mystery, and murder afoot. The cadets, their backstories, and a Three Pines WWI mystery make this one really special. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Here‘s my September BookSpin list! I‘ve been doing it every month but I‘ve been a laggard about posting it. And I haven‘t done a stellar job of reading the BookSpin or the DoubleSpin either, but it‘s a new month and a new list!

Book 12 in the #ThreePines series was fantastic! So much backstory of characters old & new + enjoyable uncovering of township lore. Don‘t want to give away any spoilers but know this gets us back into the cleanup of Surete corruption as well as some really engaging #Gamache backstory. New characters, exploration of 3 Pines history, insight into our recurring old friends, all excellent. Kept me up WAY past my bedtime on a work night!

It snowed a lot since yesterday so I have spent my hours since getting home from work reading another masterpiece by Louise Penny. Her Gamache books never disappoint. 5/5

Library book sale… great day!

Really not my favorite. Two in a row that have made me roll my eyes a lot more than normal. I loved the Three Pines world building and lore, and I continue to dislike Surete politics. I always wonder which "new" characters will return in the next installment. I liked the cadets. I wouldn't mind seeing more of them

In such a bad mood today on my commute. I couldn't manage my regular audiobook and went back to Three Pines

Book: 6 of 2022

How? I really need someone to tell me how Louise Penny does it. She writes mysteries woven together with history, poetry, art, and murder. She creates characters that you instantly become attached to. She takes you on a rollercoaster of a ride, plops you at the end and drops a giant “OMG” moment. And now I‘m left, trying to process the last 389 pages. All I can say is - Goodness I LOVED this one!!

It was fun to get back to Louise Penny‘s Armand Garmache series for my January #Bookspin: this one was complex and intense, although I was proud to see two of the clues before the detectives did! Interesting insights into Canadian police training, among other things.

I decided to take out a library membership and found this in our local libraries' collection. Unfortunately the only one in English.
My first Louise Penny which I quite enjoyed. I will certainly continue this series. Now I need to find the first one to read this series in order. Would be nice.
TBR since November 3rd. 2021; 386 pages.

This one is a little different from the previous novels. It's a little silly, quite unlikely, but I enjoyed it. Although I think I could probably give this exact same review for most of the Gamache books.

Caught sight of this orb weaver and her sister (just behind her but not in the picture) while audiowalking today. Today was a challenging one (neighbors acting a fool in their one-sided feud with us, among other little inconveniences), but this find and the accompanying book were a welcome diversion. And the weather was gorgeous. Trying to focus on the good stuff.

Finished A Great Reckoning tonight. Very good, but I wished there had been more about the residents of Three Pines.

I think my next pick will be nonfiction. Arriving Today addresses something that intrigues me: the changes in the supply chain & consumer behavior. (What's with the weird shortages?) And I read an excerpt of Invisible Child that's enough to break your heart. Which to read next? 🤔

I have a sweet spot for this installment because I went to a book signing with my sister and her friend when it was first published. I just didn‘t know it would take me so long to get to it! I really liked the story and thought everyone got a little moment to shine, including Three Pines. Armand‘s new job as head of the police academy seems to be a good fit for him. The mystery was well developed, and the twists made sense.

1. a. Make phone calls. As an introvert, I hate doing this, even if it‘s rarely as uncomfortable as I tell myself when procrastinating about it.
b. Make banana bread before the latest bunch is too ripe.

After two duds it‘s great to see Louise Penny is back in the game!! Gamache is now head of the police training academy...what could possibly go wrong!? I loved being back in Three Pines with all the usual characters and lots of food references! 😋 This comfort read was just what I needed. (And yes, I caved in and the Christmas tree is up already!! 🤦‍♀️)

It‘s been a stressful week, time for a comfort read. 😊

I had been wanting to read the next Gamache book that I was up to - but my library was closed since March and Libby and overdrive apps didn‘t have it. But I found out I was able to get a New York Public Library card and their on line library for ebooks is amazing! Was able to download this and start reading immediately! So excited to be back in Three Pines!

I don‘t think I‘ve read a more perfect ending. Insidious evil, a game and a map...are they all part of the same mystery? Have you ever wondered why Three Pines is not on a map? I love how Louise Penny takes us deeper into the characters with each book. ....and did I mention, it was a perfect ending.

The Surete academy in Canada is the setting of this interesting murder mystery. How the battle between good and evil persists everywhere, even in a police academy !

I'm so glad that I decided to enter Three Pines! I adore Inspector Gamache & his relationship with his wife.

Strange to say that a murder mystery is calming, but being in the presence of Gamache and Reine-Marie was exactly what I needed right now.

Actually managed a couple of hours reading today 😁 enjoyed my revisit to Three Pines, a real comfort read.
Turned my work phone off yesterday at 7pm....not putting back on until later tomorrow and have only watched the news for 5 minutes today. Feel a bit healthier today.

In another lifetime I had booked this morning off to get my hair done! My hair‘s still a mess but I‘m trying to use the time wisely to have a break and a read in bed.

Finally done with all the plays I needed to read. Yay! I‘ve been in a bit of a reading slump, nothing is clicking. I‘m hoping vacation will give me some time to enjoy a book or two. 📚

It seems with each book the author adds another layer of depth to these characters. Questions of philosophy are layered into each mystery. I thought the series would become repetitive and dull, and it has been the opposite. We harken back to old troubles while solving new murders. In this one, Gamache attempts to get at the root of the corruption in the police school for cadets, while also researching the history of an old map of Three Pines.

This series is so GOOD! Armand Gamache is a fabulous character. I hope the four Cadets introduced in this book show up in future books. This particular book is one of my favorites of the series.

It has been a week for the books! We were without power for almost 4 days after the storm, and further cell/internet issues during and after. The last couple of days have been crazy busy trying to play catch up with chores that went undone during our power outage. All I want to do is #CurlUpAndRead. Last load of laundry just went in, so I'm grabbing 15 minutes before I have to pick up the eldest boy. Hope everyone's had a stellar week!

Another great #audiobook in this series. Louise Penny continues to surprise with her inventive plot lines and quirky characters. #mystery

I was stuck in my chair for 12 hours today, but fixed that with a whiffle ball game with the kids, and a walk after dinner. I have been switching between Harry Truman and Louise Penny today. Truman to keep my brain active during repetitive work, and Penny for comfort. #litsywalkers #bfcr3
