It‘s official. I‘ve reached the point where my reading habits are affecting my partner‘s sleeping habits, so reading light it is! #nomorearguingaboutmeturningmylightoff
This was so good! An industrial fantasy with a cool, mysterious magic system. I didn‘t realize the next book doesn‘t come out for a good long while so now I‘m bummed out. 2020 can‘t get here fast enough.
A wonderful night of Books & BBQ with @ElishaLovesBooks and another friend of ours tonight. Just a short stack from the bookstore. I know I have a copy of The Alienist from waaay back in the day but I cannot find it anywhere so I picked up a new copy—having just watched the show, I want to reread the book. Also picked up a Krakauer book I haven‘t read as well as the tagged book about which I‘ve only seen & heard really great things.
What is it about calling a woman a whore just as a basic insult? She‘s literally a perfect stranger, and the go-to insult is to call her a whore. This is just the latest example I‘ve come across, but it‘s in books and on tv and I‘m sure happens in actual real life all the time. And it‘s usually men slinging it around. Just an irritating bit of observation from a woman who doesn‘t view having multiple sexual partners as anything to be ashamed of.
Now here‘s a book I can binge read! A thief, cool magic, multiple perspectives. Nearly 100 pages in and loving it
finished this one last night & quite enjoyed it, it took a bit for me to get into it but once I was I didn't want to put it down. I thought the magic system was interesting & will definitely be continuing on with this series to see what all of these characters get into next
A bit of reading in a very un-Foundryside landscape 🌳☀️
After the rain.
Just started a new book - so far, so great... 👍
I think Robert Jackson Bennett is becoming one of my favourite authors, because his books are exactly the kind of fantasy I love to read. Foundryside is a full blooded fantasy with lush world-building, a magic system with actual rules, a clever protagonist, and a murderous conspiracy at the centre. Full of twists and turns and shot through with sly humour, it was a great read!
Holy 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Batman! I love this book so much. I can‘t wait for the next. All the yes‘s. I enjoy everything this man writes, and this was, so far, my favorite!
Aaaas for the poor, unfortunate book that followed it, only ⭐️⭐️1/2 ... All Our Wrong Todays is a *quick* read, which was nice, and had a fun concept. But its execution was meh, and it suffered from some unfortunate 2-D writing.... imho.😉 (see GR)
Reading #er #arc A Divided Mind now...
2 fun questionnaires to answer! Thanks @Nessavamusic & @LibrarianRyan ♥️♥️
1. writing a novel in the mountains
2. Teenage: Claire‘s; Adult=Paralegal at big firm in chi
3. Less by Greer..I haven‘t 100% given up yet
4. I‘m loving this Scared Witchless series! (Cozy)
1. Tagged one!
2. Back to the start! I don‘t want to miss any of it!
3. Not a thing.. so far, it‘s everything I want it to be
He said, “if the phrase ‘the magic equivalent of database management‘ gets you hot under the color - then this book really is absolutely for you (you weirdo).” It does, it is, and I am. I‘m not quite to the halfway point, but this is turning into everything I‘d hoped this book would be. 😍
Also - @AmyG I received your package!! Sorry for the delay in posting.. sister was in town and time kept getting lost 😉 Thank you!!!! 🥰♥️🤗 #sffs #litsymail
My bedside tbr is out of control ... 15 books on the currently reading / “yup, read this one *next* pile” 🤭😬 I just need more tiiiime....
Foundryside (also being moved along by audio-reading) is *so* good though..
Top left pic is just a handful of books my sister has picked up over the years with funny/offensive (nowadays) titles.😆 Amazing to see what sold at different times! Thought my bookish friends would appreciate the mini-collection 😁
This book was GREAT. The characters. The plot. The story itself. The writing was even excellent. It was more than I expected and I can't wait to try some more of his books. If you want adventure, worldbuilding, f/f romances and some great friendships this grab this now.
#BookMail Pt7 This is such a beautiful book & the story inside sounds great too. Set in a world where there‘s a form of magic known as ‘scriving‘ where people use code to give inanimate objects a type of sentience(life) Sancia is a master thief in this world & is hired to steal a magical artifact of huge power that has already been used by the ruling merchants to turn their world industrial. But it still holds secrets & now Sancia is being hunted.
I'm at the halfway mark now and I'm having a blast reading this one! If the 2nd half is as good as the 1st it's gonna be a 5 ⭐ book for me!
Action packed, a great MC, and a world with rich history and a very well thought out magic system all make for really fun reading. 👍
Starting this today! 🤗
The husband: “For someone who claims to not enjoy fantasy books - you sure read a lot of fantasy books...” 🤔😂
I love this book, some great characters and world building. Only 99p for kindle at the moment too
Well that was a lot of fun. Good characters, complex world building and a seriously ambitious plot. The best news is that it‘s just the first in what will be a trilogy. Whoop!
1. #foundryside - great book
2. 110 - I have a lot of time at home
3. Being told my cancer is stable ( although now stressing as have a CT next week to check this is still the case)
4. Has to be Christmas...
