So I really havent been on track with much. Been cleaning my apt for city inspection this week. As good news have gotten rid of stuff I have been meaning too. I am slowly almost done Heretics Anonymous. I'm on vacation last week of October so I'm hoping to do some serious reading. hermyknee Hey! I was late posting, too. It‘s awesome that you‘re decluttering - it can be so cathartic! I really need to give my place a clean- maybe it will help with my anxiety that has been kind of outta control lately? It sounds to me like you had a good week! 1w

3 ⭐ Overall, this one was pretty 'meh' for me. I can't really say I enjoyed it but it was a quick read. It's very YA, which I'm not generally opposed to but this one seemed pointless. I'm also not sure how I feel about the portrayal of religion in this book.

#Dorian2019Update

We lost power so I decided to take a bath while we still have hot water in the tank.

Thankfully we filled the propane tank so we can cook later.

We have 4 teenaged boys here with no wifi. Uno will only keep them amused for so long. ETA for power is Monday night. Send help.

This was a pretty good story of faith, friends, & fighting the good fight.
Michael‘s family moves - he winds up at Catholic school. But he‘s not Catholic; he‘s an atheist.
He finds Lucy, who brings him to Heretics Anonymous - kids who don‘t fit in.
They challenge the rules at St. Clare‘s.
What‘s best about this is the one-on-one talks they have. Lucy & Michael challenge each other to explore & define themselves. No judgment - just talk.

My husband and I just finished listening to this. Now we have six hours left to drive. What next? This was such a funny and cute story, a good one to listen together. My husband was raised Catholic and was raised Protestant; as former church kids, there was so much to relate to and laugh at. Michael refines his own beliefs while leaving room for others to believe differently. This is a book about relationships: romantic, friendships, and family.

Having children that went to Catholic school, I get this book. The questions are handled from all angles, from firm believers, to non believers to all different types of believers, all intelligent and all worth hearing, and still done with humor and warmth, unafraid to address the hard questions. While there were some parts of the story that were left hanging and some that tied up a little too neatly, I really enjoyed this book.

This was such a fun audiobook and perfect for a week when I needed something that would easily keep my attention. There is a lot of humor in this YA tale about a high school atheist forced to attend a Catholic school and the group of students he befriends but there is a lot about acceptance and tolerance as well.

“I don‘t believe in God, but that doesn‘t mean I believe in nothing.”

What a great book! I related a lot to both Lucy and Michael. I was raised catholic but I started to question things and now I don‘t believe in organized religion BUT that doesn‘t mean I don‘t appreciate religion and the people who love it.

Great writing and great characters! Thank you @hermyknee for gifting it to me.

A really fun & interesting YA book with a great voice. An atheist teen is enrolled at Catholic school & gets involved with a devout Catholic girl who wants to be a priest, a gay Jewish boy, & others in a group called "Heretics Anonymous." I really appreciated the many views toward religion, & the acknowledgement that it can be a force for both good & bad. Mostly I just really enjoyed the characters. I love a group of misfit rebels.

So cute! A fun YA rom-com about a teenage atheist forced to go to a catholic school where he meets his intelligent, outspoken feminist love interest. hermyknee @gradcat it‘s copyright 2018– I don‘t think it is super new, but I‘m not sure when it came out last year. Yeah, Litsy doesn‘t have a write up on it, but Goodreads does! 8mo
JoScho Did you take the day and have Monday off? 8mo
hermyknee @JoScho yeah! Today is supposed to be a professional development day, so there were no kids anyway (still had to use a sick day though). I can‘t stand professional development anymore because our new administrators treat us like kindergarteners instead of professionals. It‘s insulting. But now I have a 4 day weekend like the kids do 😊 8mo
JoScho Lol same! Well actually today was supposed to be half teacher work day half pd. However, my coordinator scheduled for a PD from 8-3:30. Um nope. I took a half day and came to work in my classroom for a few hours. So sick of the BS. We haven‘t had a work day all year because of the hurricane. It was worth using half a sick day. 8mo
hermyknee @JoScho I spent two hours last night crying about something stupid — the constant stress and blatant disregard admin has for our intelligence — it‘s all too much. I‘m pretty sure if I had to sit through one of their meetings today, I would lose it. I‘m running out of sick days, but at this point I feel like being docked would be worth it to combat the emotional stress. (edited) 8mo
JoScho @hermyknee I agree completely. You have to take care of yourself first. 💕 8mo
gradcat @hermyknee Thanks very much for the info...I will check it out on Goodreads. The cover really piques my interest. 😊😊 8mo
gradcat @JoScho @hermyknee So sorry to eavesdrop, but I couldn‘t help but overhear you guys. I feel your pain—towards the end of my career, I constantly felt like I was being treated like a marginally out-of-line high-schooler, who, with just the right counseling, would be so much more productive. Those sessions felt like camp, and any minute we would join hands and sing! Nope! Not for me! It sounds like I retired at the right time. I feel for you two. ❤️ 8mo
hermyknee @gradcat you absolutely did! It‘s ridiculous. I‘m a professional adult with a Masters degree and I‘m so sick of being treated like an infant. 8mo
gradcat Keep your chin up and know that what you do is a lot more worthy than dreaming up BS sessions for teachers that take up time that could be put to much better use by—guess what—teaching! 😊 8mo
hermyknee @gradcat thank you ♥️♥️♥️ 8mo
JoScho @gradcat thank you! It is a ridiculous waste of time and we already have hellacious schedules and classes. It is dreadful. 8mo

Old picture, but too lazy to take another right now. It felt a little heavy handed at the end, but overall a quick, sweet read. It was weird reading about Catholicism after having not been involved in years and years. You don't forget that stuff, I'm finding. Loved this group of friends and especially related to Michael, though his relationship with his dad was on much better terms by then end of this book then I'll ever be with mine 😅

I put this book on hold at my library, sight unseen. I‘m assuming it was recommended based on previous reads. I started it without knowing a thing about it. I‘m perhaps a fourth into it. It seems to be a look into faith among high schoolers. An atheist is enrolled at a Catholic high school. So far, I‘m enjoying it.
