This was such a fun audiobook and perfect for a week when I needed something that would easily keep my attention. There is a lot of humor in this YA tale about a high school atheist forced to attend a Catholic school and the group of students he befriends but there is a lot about acceptance and tolerance as well.

“I don‘t believe in God, but that doesn‘t mean I believe in nothing.”

What a great book! I related a lot to both Lucy and Michael. I was raised catholic but I started to question things and now I don‘t believe in organized religion BUT that doesn‘t mean I don‘t appreciate religion and the people who love it.

Great writing and great characters! Thank you @hermyknee for gifting it to me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

hermyknee Avi is a great character. I can‘t remember who they‘re making fun of? (Other than literally everyone in their school) 1mo
That-Bookish-Hiker @hermyknee in this scene they are making fun of Purity Paul at the sex Ed assembly. I couldn‘t stop laughing. 😆 1mo

A really fun & interesting YA book with a great voice. An atheist teen is enrolled at Catholic school & gets involved with a devout Catholic girl who wants to be a priest, a gay Jewish boy, & others in a group called "Heretics Anonymous." I really appreciated the many views toward religion, & the acknowledgement that it can be a force for both good & bad. Mostly I just really enjoyed the characters. I love a group of misfit rebels.

Yeah, this kid is high.😂 Maybe it would be fun writing a book with a bunch of high characters. I‘m sure tons exist.

PS: This book is so why I could never have a grueling career and a family. Someone suffers all too often.

So cute! A fun YA rom-com about a teenage atheist forced to go to a catholic school where he meets his intelligent, outspoken feminist love interest. She also happens to be a very devout catholic & an aspiring priest. Accompanied by a cast of fun characters; this was the perfect book for my mood today ♥️ Thank you so much @Skeebies05 for sending it my way!! #cupidgoespostal #fridaynightbookclub #mentalhealthday #teachersoflitsy

hermyknee @JoScho it is so fun and lighthearted — I love the voice she gave to the main character, Michael. Definitely good when you need a break from everything. With a splash of teen angst 😂😅 3mo

hermyknee @BookHoarder32 I‘ve lol‘d a couple of times already 😅 @JoScho it is! It‘s a “five-minute meal” from Home Chef (I‘m really glad I selected one of those this week as I DO NOT feel like cooking today) - how was your afternoon? 3mo
JoScho It was good! I left work earlier than I should have-around 10:30-ran some errands, picked up lunch and came home and took a long nap. I needed this extended weekend desperately. Our kids were dreadful this past week. 3mo

hermyknee @gradcat it‘s copyright 2018– I don‘t think it is super new, but I‘m not sure when it came out last year. Yeah, Litsy doesn‘t have a write up on it, but Goodreads does! 3mo
JoScho Did you take the day and have Monday off? 3mo
hermyknee @JoScho yeah! Today is supposed to be a professional development day, so there were no kids anyway (still had to use a sick day though). I can‘t stand professional development anymore because our new administrators treat us like kindergarteners instead of professionals. It‘s insulting. But now I have a 4 day weekend like the kids do 😊 3mo
JoScho Lol same! Well actually today was supposed to be half teacher work day half pd. However, my coordinator scheduled for a PD from 8-3:30. Um nope. I took a half day and came to work in my classroom for a few hours. So sick of the BS. We haven‘t had a work day all year because of the hurricane. It was worth using half a sick day. 3mo
hermyknee @JoScho I spent two hours last night crying about something stupid — the constant stress and blatant disregard admin has for our intelligence — it‘s all too much. I‘m pretty sure if I had to sit through one of their meetings today, I would lose it. I‘m running out of sick days, but at this point I feel like being docked would be worth it to combat the emotional stress. (edited) 3mo
JoScho @hermyknee I agree completely. You have to take care of yourself first. 💕 3mo
gradcat @hermyknee Thanks very much for the info...I will check it out on Goodreads. The cover really piques my interest. 😊😊 3mo
gradcat @JoScho @hermyknee So sorry to eavesdrop, but I couldn‘t help but overhear you guys. I feel your pain—towards the end of my career, I constantly felt like I was being treated like a marginally out-of-line high-schooler, who, with just the right counseling, would be so much more productive. Those sessions felt like camp, and any minute we would join hands and sing! Nope! Not for me! It sounds like I retired at the right time. I feel for you two. ❤️ 3mo
hermyknee @gradcat you absolutely did! It‘s ridiculous. I‘m a professional adult with a Masters degree and I‘m so sick of being treated like an infant. 3mo
gradcat Keep your chin up and know that what you do is a lot more worthy than dreaming up BS sessions for teachers that take up time that could be put to much better use by—guess what—teaching! 😊 3mo
hermyknee @gradcat thank you ♥️♥️♥️ 3mo
JoScho @gradcat thank you! It is a ridiculous waste of time and we already have hellacious schedules and classes. It is dreadful. 3mo

Reading this for "A book about religion." It's already made me laugh several times in the first few pages.

Also the cover reminds me of "Grilled Cheesus" from Glee. ☺️

Old picture, but too lazy to take another right now. It felt a little heavy handed at the end, but overall a quick, sweet read. It was weird reading about Catholicism after having not been involved in years and years. You don't forget that stuff, I'm finding. Loved this group of friends and especially related to Michael, though his relationship with his dad was on much better terms by then end of this book then I'll ever be with mine 😅

I put this book on hold at my library, sight unseen. I‘m assuming it was recommended based on previous reads. I started it without knowing a thing about it. I‘m perhaps a fourth into it. It seems to be a look into faith among high schoolers. An atheist is enrolled at a Catholic high school. So far, I‘m enjoying it.

I‘m not sure how I feel about the ending, or the book overall. I recognize that I‘m not the target audience. There were a good number of truly funny parts—always a good thing. I wouldn‘t discourage anyone who is interested from reading it.

Written well and an easy read. I expected to like it more, and to be able to dig really deep emotionally. Maybe I'm just too old to relate.
Still a solid 3.5 out of 4 stars.

Dhfinitely I listened to the audiobook on Scribd and absolutely love it. So I looked it up on Litsy to see if others were raving as well & saw your post. After listening to the audiobook I went straight to amazon and ordered the print copy so I can reread. There were only 7 left in stock so I think word has been spreading on this one. Highly recommend as a survivor of 12 years of private Christian schooling I can definitely say this book rings true! 9mo
