Two young boys, Jim and Will, start to figure out that not everything is as it seems at the carnival, and the merry go round is proof of just that. Along with Will's father, they must battling for le the evil that Mr. Dark brings, by proving that friendship and love can defeat anything. Bradbury's rich writing still rings true and in my opinion, has only gotten better with each reread.

So glad I took a break from contemporary reads to pick up this classic! When a spooky carnival comes to town, two 13-year-old friends must fight to save themselves in a true tale of good vs. evil. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can‘t believe how long it took me to get round to reading this! This is something I see myself rereading a lot. The prose was gorgeous and I loved how it was both menacing and sort of comforting, and also how clear the influence on Stephen King was.

I‘d never read it before and I did enjoy it. The story was intriguing. Gave me Needful Things by Stephen King vibes - kinda assume he got some of the inspiration from this story. Just a like not a love for me. Spooky elements for sure

So this time around, after reading the book I listened to the dramatized version.

The full cast old-time radio program was fun. Includes sound effects. It‘s a short story that came to life with the multiple characters and a fun addition to this wonderful story.

Of course the book is best but this was FUN!

Combining fantasy and horror (and not sci-fi this time), Bradbury writes his poetic prose as only he can while examining the constantly conflicting dualities of good and nature in each of us. Also cleverly woven into the evil carnival that Mr. Dark brings to Green Town are the “fountain of youth“ and “aging overnight“ motifs that the two boys, Will and Jim wrestle with. Expertly and horrifically written. I need to read more Bradbury.

kelli7990 Campus by Vampire Weekend from that Cosmopolitan article you shared with me seems like it matches my current read. Hey, Hexes~
A friendly reminder regarding the Word Search. Pretty much every online reader will search the words for you and let you know how many times that word appears throughout the entire book. And you get 10 pts. for EVERY SINGLE TIME that word appears. Having just finished the tagged book (one of our buddy reads), I earned a total of 5,250 pts.! The word “witch“ alone came up 1,160 times! 🤩

Another classic from my childhood. The magical carousel has stuck with me all these years. There were some misogynistic parts. The story focused on two boys, Will and Jim, and Will's father. They must band together to fight the evil carnival owner and save the town. The writing is poetic and very descriptive. It is easy to see Bradbury's influence on Stephen King.

I just managed to finish my #Roll100 book for April, now I'm already ordering the one for May - incredible! 😄 Number 85 is Bradburys “Something Wicked This Way Comes“. An October book in May - what a match! 😄

For #TurnUpTheBooks I got Blink-182s “I Really Wish I Hated You“. Just a normal, boring breakup song 🙄 First I thought I wouldn't find a fitting book, but when I scrolled through my planned reading list ⬇

Jari-chan I came along Elena Ferrantes “My Brilliant Friend“ and thought it fitting, since their friendship seems to be some sort of love-hate friendship. We'll see in time.

Who doesn‘t like that quote during this spooky month? For those who don‘t bother with readathons during #Scarathlon here‘s an easy one to gain you 10 points for every hour read - the only rule: there has to be the element of Wickedness involved ⬇️

StayCurious (be it creature or killer, supernatural or real crime - if you can justify it, it works). Any hour spent reading your wicked story gains you 10 points! There are no sign ups, but feel free to tag me in you #wickedathon posts so I can see what you‘re reading. By the pricking of my thumbs….Have a wicked good time this month! @Clwojick 3y
