I loved listening to this book!!! It was Andy Serkis as the narrator. Who is Gollum in the movies. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

"Surely you don't disbelieve the prophecies, because you had a hand in bringing them about yourself?" - Gandalf to Bilbo
I brought this with my on my recent trip to New Zealand and it was so much fun to read it while traipsing through Peter Jackson's reimagined Middle Earth. ❤️

We have way too many bookshelves spread across the house so I decided to snap a few pics of my fave bookish pieces. From the top we have my husband's kindle cover that is Thorin's map from the Hobbit and then the first booknook I ever made. Bottom left is our Mortal Kombat bookends. Bottom right is our fancy Horrorish books and Cthullu booknook.

A reread for me. The last time I read it I was in middle school. I was shocked at how much of my memory of it had been hijacked by the films. I‘m curious to see how much I misremember from the following trilogy. 😅 This will always be a very nostalgic story for me. I felt a profound connection to the young woman I was when I first read it and fell in love with Tolkien‘s world. ❤️
This was part of my February #Roll100
I took Kili to the vet this morning for his checkup, and I had to settle a discussion about his name. The vet thought it must be short for Kilimanjaro, but the tech knew it was one of the dwarfs from The Hobbit. “You know, Kili and Fili, the hot ones.”

1. Yes! But not for a long time…I might have to rectify that soon. Blanket fort reading is always spectacular.
2. The tagged book because when I was little there was one winter when every weekend my mom would read a chapter of The Hobbit to my sisters & I. She read from the illustrated edition (based on the animated movie), almost always in front of the fire, & it was perfect. One of my most vivid childhood memories.

Late lunch #CoffeeAndABook - pumpkin cold brew and breakfast melt sandwich plus more Hobbit after (nearly) completing my Christmas shopping 🛍️ 🎄
“Now they all pushed together, and slowly a part of the rock-wall gave way. Long straight cracks appeared and widened. A door five feet high and three broad was outlined, and slowly without a sound swung inwards.”
“The only person thoroughly unhappy was Bilbo.”
Left work a little early, so I could have lunchtime #CoffeeAndABook before my therapy appointment - cold brew (it‘s warm out! over 50 degrees! 😆) and a caprese egg sandwich while Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves try to get out of yet another dangerous situation
Actually starting this reread today! Time for #coffeeandabook - mocha with an extra shot and an egg and cheddar biscuit 📖 ☕️ 😋
Just waiting to meet up with my mom. Might as well start my re-read of The Hobbit with my iced white mocha (with raspberry cold foam and an extra shot) while I wait #coffeeandabook
I DNF these books in the past but after many moons, I enjoyed it. I‘m so glad I gave it another chance. There are so many psychological aspects in this story. The audiobook is amazing. 4 ⭐️
I‘m not officially in the group but I read it because of #FellowshipOfTolkien group @JazzFeathers It gave me an opportunity to read this series. I hope I can read the 2nd book next month.
I‘m so excited to read this with kiddo! We started this morning and she already likes hobbits because I‘ve told her about their meal schedule. She approves.

Happy Hobbit Day everyone!
It's been a very busy day and only now, almost at midnight, l manage to post, but l didn't want to miss this!
I'm sorry l didn't post for the #HoobitWeek here as l intended. I did on Instagram, though.
You can read my posts here, if you want 😁

Anyone else prepping for Hobbit Day!
I saw it on Pinterest and decided this was the holiday I needed. Banana bread for first breakfast in the morning.
This will likely not find favour with Tolkien fans, but if I were to rank the three interrelated pieces of media, the original novel, the films made from this material and the fanfic made as a result of the films, my rating would go: 1) fanfic, 2) films, 3) novel. 1/?
I‘m woefully behind on #FellowshipofTolkien 😅
I found myself unable to read The Hobbit without having it be in my mom‘s voice, and that just wasn‘t working. So I remembered folks talking about Serkis‘ audiobook narration and finally went for it on audible - it‘s great! Total palate cleanser and a wonderful listen while enjoying my coffee with my dog leaning on my feet, watching the early fall rain. Thanks!
Has the person writing the captions for collection containers been reading some baggenshield fanfic?
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
This is happening on Instagram, but maybe we can play along too 😜
Trying to read…but someone keeps putting her back foot on my head 😂

I didn‘t finish much this month 😔 but it was good for how much has been on my plate. My rereads were my only 5 stars (with crowns) so hoping for a better September.
And finally, Smaug on an Aubusson tapestry.
As promised, the other side of my Lego set, the Unexpected Party. I enjoyed this reread, though I was not very good at posting, apologies for that. One thing that made this one extra fun for me is my son, who is 20 & has a reading disability so doesn‘t usually read novels. We are currently training to walk a 1/2 marathon so go on training walks several nights a week. Each evening I tell him what has happened in the book since last time & we ⬇️
@Daisey @JazzFeathers Thank you for leading us on this nostalgia filled adventure with Bilbo and his friends! I had a blast following their travels with the group and I‘m really excited to continue the adventure. I‘ve read the beginning, but not the end of the trilogy, so I can‘t wait to see what happens in the parts that are completely new to me! #LotRChapterADay
#FellowshipOfTolkien
This is my favorite version of The Hobbit. Andy Sekis is a brilliant narrator, and he makes the riddle game just so much more fantastic.
I'm so glad we restarted this. I love these rereads 💚 Thanks for hosting @JazzFeathers @Daisey

Pictures are back!!!! 🤩
Sorry for the late post. I finished The Hobbit a couple of days ago and loved it as always. But still more, l loved my travel mates. This has been a fantastic read, with beautiful pics and comment and such a lively group of readers.
I want to thank everyone who took part, and for those that will go on with The Lord of the Rings l say: let's do it again!!!!!! 💪😁
Hoping to finish up the last few chapters today so I‘ll be all set to start The Fellowship on time this weekend. #InvolvesDragon #BookBinge @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Still loved, even after many reads now…and this ending has always struck me as quite a great one.
Little did even the author know just how much this past episode would weave into a bigger trilogy to come, and the part of prophecy here… oh so very important to the future of that world, in ways the author hadn‘t yet quite even dreamed of. 😉. Without those, the wider world would not have faired quite so well. “Roads go ever ever on” indeed!

Bitter and sweet. Sad and amusing.
Fantastic, as always.

This would be a transition chapter if not for Thirin's death.
Tolkien originally planned to let him live and really become King Under the Mountain. In a way, l wish he had. But l understand why he didn't.
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
I'm always in awe of Tolkien's ability to describe battles without losing the sense of what they mean for the individual.
I also love Thorin's descent into battle.
Just epic!
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
Always love this chapter every time l read it.
It's the core of Tolkien's philosophy of the common sense of the people that so often become courage and even bravery.
I also like the mix of 'right' and 'wrong', which also is at the core of Tolkien's philosophy. Sometimes an apparently wrong thing is the only tight thing to do.
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
And here, Tolkien starts again to mix epic fantasy (think the parlay between Bard and Thorin) and lighter matter (Bilbo's considerations on the matter) with his usual mastery.
I can see how this part of story can be read at many different levels, because l too once only saw the surface.
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
This is true epic fantasy. It is not a children's story. This is really, genuinely epic.
And love it!
The way the dragon attacks Esgaroth is almost cinematic. Even after reading it so many times, it still takes my breath away. And l love that passage describing the spot where the dragon fell and his bones were never disturbed.
Pure epic!
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
Despite being a quiet chapter, l really liked it. The Arkenstone makes its appearance and in the economy of The Hobbit, it's even more important than the ring.
And Bilbo is really coming into his own... Though we also know he's acting guided by a superior will.
It's more of a complex chapter than it may look.
What a delightful reread of this marvelous adventure! So happy to have shared it with my #FellowshipofTolkien friends 💚📚

I can't wait to start Fellowship next week!
5✨ Bilbo is a hobbit who enjoys sitting at home, eating, and the peace of the every day. That is until he meets Gandalf the wizard, who introduces him to dwarves that are on a mission to get their lost treasure from a dragon! Bilbo honestly doesn‘t know how he got roped into this adventure, but he discovers hidden strength as the journey progresses.
This was a fun reread! I‘d forgotten a lot of it, especially from after the riddle chapter. Thorough gets to be kind of a jerk after they find the hoard! I really liked the message of the dragon‘s gold making people nasty and greedy—if all you‘re focused on is money, you‘re unpleasant to the people around you. Whereas Bilbo manages to give up his bit of the hoard and makes some progress toward peace… and still ends up with plenty of treasure.
“You are a very fine person, Mr. Baggins, and I am very fond of you; but you are only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all!"
Bilbo is a fine person, and he should be quite proud of his bravery and resourcefulness! He went through quite terrifying adventures, yet never deserted his friends, and all without a pocket handkerchief!
Thank you so much @Daisey and @JazzFeathers for hosting the #LotRChapterADay readalong!
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien
I always, always enjoy Smauh's chapters, especially his conversation with Bilbo. But then, l always enjoy Tolkien's dragons. Such fascinating character. I wish Tolkien had written more about them.
I smiled at the passage where Bilbo reflects that catching a dragon napping and slaying him in his sleep is harder than one think, because that was Tolkien's original idea for the end of the book. Self criticism 😂
It's been decades since I read this book for the first time, and I enjoyed this second read just as much. I forgot how much the 2nd-person POV was used, and it worked exquisitely; I felt like I was a kid being told this tale by Tolkien himself. One of the best hero's quests ever written because what Bilbo seeks (the dwarves' gold) is no more a symbol of what he really finds: himself and how brave he truly is. Thanks #LotRChapteraDay for the ride.
In the final chapter, Bilbo comes full circle back to home with all he has learned.
“Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.”
I have absolutely loved this reread with all of you and seeing all the quotes and commentary along the way. 💕 I look forward to more posts and discussion as everyone finishes the book.

I love how Thorin went from:
"You are not making a very splendid figure as King under the Mountain,'” said Gandalf.
"But things may change yet."
To:
Out leapt the King under the Mountain, and his companions followed him. … In the gloom the great dwarf gleamed like gold in a dying fire. … "To me! To me! Elves and Men! To me! O my kinsfolk!" he cried, and his voice shook like a horn in the valley.
#LotRChapterADay #FellowshipofTolkien
“There is more of good in you than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
This is my favorite quote from The Hobbit. Such a wonderful understanding & recognition of Bilbo & his role in this adventure. And then the next sentence where he weeps until his eyes are red—😭
