Sisters | Raina Telgemeier
Raina Telgemeier’s #1 New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award-winning companion to Smile! Raina can't wait to be a big sister. But once Amara is born, things aren't quite how she expected them to be. Amara is cute, but she's also a cranky, grouchy baby, and mostly prefers to play by herself. Their relationship doesn't improve much over the years, but when a baby brother enters the picture and later, something doesn't seem right between their parents, they realize they must figure out how to get along. They are sisters, after all. Raina uses her signature humor and charm in both present-day narrative and perfectly placed flashbacks to tell the story of her relationship with her sister, which unfolds during the course of a road trip from their home in San Francisco to a family reunion in Colorado.

Free Comic Book Day, part 2! After I left the gals, I stopped by two more of the shops I like, so here is my final #BookHaul. Yes, I realize Uprooted isn't a comic book, but one of my faves is a used book store as well and I have been wanting this since I read it. Also, it looks like I'll finally be reading Raina Telgemeier! All in all, it was a nice day!

LiteraryinLititz Love Raina Telgemeier! Enjoy all your new additions! 1mo

A good follow-up story to Smile. I always wanted a sister and after reading this, I was laughing my butt off between their back-and-forth banter! It‘s amazing as to how these sisters fought constantly, but they made it through a long road trip just fine 😊

I‘ve read several graphic novels by Raina Telgemeier and have enjoyed them all. This one, while interesting, felt like it lacked a complete story arc. I much preferred the first memoir she did, Smile.

My face when my tween tells me slime spilled in her backpack with 4 hardback library books inside 😒 So she will be mowing lawns to help pay for that huge mess. We had to throw her backpack away too! #summervaction #needwine #sodonewithslime

#HopIntoSpring Day 10: As a graphic novelist, Telgemeier is pretty much unparalleled when it comes to portrayal of #Siblings - the overwhelming success of these three graphic novels is a testament to that fact.

As a big sister myself, this graphic memoir brought back many memories of torturous car rides spent mutually annoying my little sister. A cute, quick read with pleasing art.

These were given to Ayva for her birthday on Friday. She read half of them Sunday and the rest today. We‘re going to go bankrupt paying for her addiction (and mine)

Peddler410 I hear you! D and I are in the same boat! What did Ayva think of Real Friends? (edited) 1y
Sarahr875 @Peddler410 it‘s number three in her top four 😂 but she did tell me that I should read it because it‘s super good 1y
EliNeedsMoreShelves D & S were circling allllll the books they want in their most recent Schoolastic fliers. My husband says, "Don't you already own all the books in that thing? How can there possibly be so many books published for kids?" I feel like the three of us now have a new personal challenge. ? 1y

Didn‘t realise ‘Smile‘ is chronologically set before this, and probably should‘ve read that first? A good rainy day read but not super-amazeballs-blow-my-bookish-socks-off? *sheepish grin*

4⭐️ After reading Smile, it was nice to see the story expand beyond just Raina. Most of the story is Raina‘s dynamic with her sister Amara. The typical little bratty sister. Or is she. I love the the illustrations and I love the story. I actually want to know more about the family. And when you get to the end, you will see what i mean. A fun romp that will remind you of childhood, weather you are still a child yourself, or just a child at heart.

Raina Telgemeier's mighty good, y'all. In this graphic memoir she cuts back and forth between two timelines as she tells the story of her family's epic road trip to Colorado. Each narrative stream illuminates elements of the other, and the familial themes make everything SUPER emotional. I can't wait to read more of her comics.

My niece is down from New York on her spring break to spend time with family in Florida. She's been making fun of me all week for being a "nerd" and reading on the couch but I bought her a couple of books this week and I was so happy to see that she was almost done with one of them (even if it was just a comic) I'm hoping I'll be able to instill the love of reading within her ?

LeahBergen I did this with a visiting nephew who was a reluctant reader. I bought him graphic novels and joke books and he loved them. ❤️ 2y

This time Raina tells about a car ride to visit family with her mom, sister and brother. I think young readers will relate to Raina's story, especially anyone who has ever had to take long car rides with family. Older readers will feel nostalgic for the time Raina was growing up (1990's).I'm enjoying them because I was the same age as Raina at the time.

This graphic novel tells the story of Raina becoming a big sister and the difficulties she has dealing with younger siblings. The focus is on a road trip they are taking with Mom, and there are flashbacks to the younger siblings births and incidents in their childhoods.

Good for middle grade. Cute drawings and storyline shows great understanding of siblings.

Another fantastic memoir by Telgemeier! This one focuses on the relationship between her and her sister as they both work to find out who they want to be when they grow up. Pairs well with a favorite road trip snack from your youth.
