The Knife of Never Letting Go
The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One | Patrick Ness
Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him -- something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is. Includes “The New World,” a short story by Patrick Ness.

More photographic proof from Ness‘ Instagram that reshoots for the Chaos Walking movie are in progress. I really like Tom Holland in this roll and am hopeful the movie will be a good one. The Chaos Walking trilogy is hands down one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, YA trilogies. It‘s definitely an example of genre or age defying books and I can‘t wait to see it brought to life. (Did I mention Daisy Ridley‘s also in the movie?!? She is!)

Great news from Patrick Ness via Instagram—reshoots for the Chaos Walking movie have started!!! Found the news a few other places and Tom Holland has posted about it on social media which means we are definitely inching—slowly, slowly—towards the release of this much delayed movie. Definitely excited to see this on the big screen and very interested to see how they will depict Noise in a visual medium. Should be fun!

Been in a bit of a reading slump these past couple of months, but today‘s my birthday so I got myself a Clare and a Stiefvater book, and my friends got me the Chaos Walking trilogy and a canvas bookmark with my name stitched on it! I‘ve heard little about this series, is it good?

I started this tonight. A world where everyone can hear your thoughts? It starts off funny with a talking dog. Who hasn‘t said they wished they knew what their pet was thinking? After reading the first chapter I‘m starting to think it might not be such a fun idea. 😄 Has anyone else read it?

Absolutely brilliant fantasy novel which is tagged YA, which I suppose is fair enough as the protagonists are teenagers but really it would be a pity if more (ahem) mature readers let this pass them by, as I nearly did. Also contains THE most gut-wrenching literary death I've read in ages. Just wonderful.

Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve had this on my shelf for a while now and I‘ve been meaning to get to it. It sounds great! 2mo
Erinreadsthebooks Great review! I don‘t love that it‘s tagged YA either. I think it‘s more ‘coming of age in a dystopia‘ 😏 2mo

This book definitely lived up to all the hype it gets on Litsy. I went to the library today because I had to get the second one to see what is next for Todd and Viola.

Great book for reluctant high school readers, especially boys because it has a lot of action from start to finish to keep them interested.

Starting this one tonight while working on a mountain of laundry. I love all its war wounds from all the people before me who checked it out from the library. When I pick up a well worn book I always assume it's a good one and has been on many journeys before finding its way home with me. 💚

Cinfhen I haven‘t really found any fiction that I enjoy on audio. Maybe mindless YA fantasy will be the answer...or maybe not 😉 3mo
Andrew65 @Cinfhen I find some books work, some don‘t. It allows me to engage in reading during the daily commute and travelling. 3mo
Cinfhen I agree!! Audio is an awesome way to fill empty hours but I‘m still struggling to find the right fiction that holds my attention. I‘m thinking of trying this book 3mo
Lizpixie I‘ve heard the audio of Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo is really good. @Cinfhen 3mo
Cinfhen Thanks for the recommendation @Lizpixie but I‘ve actually read that book already! Any other suggestions??? 3mo
Lizpixie @Cinfhen I highly recommend As You Wish by Carey Ewles, Not My Fathers Son by Alan Cummings, Carrie by Stephen King, The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty, any of Kate Morton‘s books, Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer & any Dame Agatha audiobooks, especially the ones narrated by David Suchet! 3mo
Cinfhen Why thank you so much @Lizpixie I recently listened to Alan Cummings!!!! Sooooooo good 3mo
Lizpixie @Cinfhen no worries lovely! I have more but I wasn‘t sure that you like the genre(fantasy/sci-fi) 3mo
Andrew65 @Lizpixie The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo was good as an audiobook. Other good ones for me were The Help, The Outlander Series, 11.22.63, The Hunger Games, The Century Trilogy - Ken Follett, Tony Hill / Carol Jordan Series-Val McDermid, David Baldacci‘s Books, The Forgotten Legion Trilogy by Ben Kane, The Light Between Oceans, Roy Grace Series by Peter James, Assassin‘s Apprentice - Robin Hobbs I tend to prefer historical fiction as audiobooks. 3mo

Andrew65 @Cinfhen Some of them are close to 50 hours, e.g. Outlander 🙄😳 3mo

This was a great book that wasn't at all what I expected, but it's also one of those books where you can't talk about anything after chapter one without really spoiling the book, so I'm not going to get into details. It's the best dystopian novel I've read in a while, and does a great job of avoiding my usual complaint with the genre (series ruining twists out of nowhere).

This was a can't put it down read for me.

On holidays at the moment so another beach pic ⛱😁 Just finished The Knife Of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. I'm actually not sure how to rate it 😱 First up I really liked the cover and you can't see it but the edges of the pages are black! It's dystopian fiction and I had trouble putting it down. There were some really original concepts. I think my problem is that it is part of a trilogy and I don't have the next one here to keep reading 😂

This is the first sci-fi book I ever read! It‘s such a fun adventure on a unique planet! The series addresses societal structures, authority and the value of another sentient species. It has so many characters you‘ll watch grow and villains you‘ll love to hate. It definitely shaped my view for future sci-fi novels I picked to read. The story and characters have stuck with me all this time ❤️

I totally get why people love this book: the original concepts, the use of language & typeface, the thrill of the chase, the *suspense*! And for these things, this YA Bildungsroman featuring Todd Hewitt, the last boy in Prentisstown and Violet, the strange, quiet girl he finds in the swamp, gets a Pick; BUT this is not really a story for me. There is a bit of emotional manipulation which I resent, a cliffhanger ending, and low-level vocabulary

I read this short story prequel to 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' and was intrigued enough to start the first in the Chaos Walking Trilogy. In the short, Viola and her parents have been selected to head out on an advance shuttle and down to a planet where previous settlers may have landed decades before...

In the opening chapters of TKOLG, we encounter Todd, a boy who lives in a tiny town of men who can all hear each others' thoughts...

I have never read a book like this. This is a book so sad, so heartbreaking, so encouraging, so beautiful, so tragic. Todd is an incredible character. He never falters, never stops even when you think there's no possible way he can continue. The all consuming journey he has to go through in this book is just mind blowing. Then there's Manchee. He is what the definition of a dog is. The purest, truest love for their person.

I LOVE this book.
It's marketed as Dystopian Margaret Atwood for young adults, but really it's for everyone.
It has echoes of The Handmaids Tale, but less explicit. I was reading to vet the book for a 10 yr old. It covers genocide, misogyny, responsibility, war, love, adulthood... everything. Now I'm desperate to get hold of part 2 - it's a trilogy.
