The Knife of Never Letting Go
The Knife of Never Letting Go: Chaos Walking: Book One | Patrick Ness
Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him -- something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn't she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd's gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is. Includes The New World, a short story by Patrick Ness.

I listened to this whole canon repeat while reading this trilogy and now every time I hear this album it takes me right back to those books and it makes me so happy.

Any one else listen to music while reading and have this happened?

#78 of my year. I only bought book one because I wanted to make sure I liked the story so I‘m going to be mad at myself if I end up really loving this and have to wait to order the rest lol

Caffeinated_Reader Well that was an effing bull shit ending. I think the idea about the goings on and all is unique and interesting but idk if I‘ll read the rest of the series. I like the main characters but there was a HUGE imbalance of rightness and wrongness 3mo
Caffeinated_Reader and idk I just feel like the ending was such shit lol I‘m pissed and I guess want to know wtf is gonna happen but I‘m too mad. If I do read book 2 it‘ll be way later this year possibly next year. This book is in a time out to think about what it‘s done lol 😩 3mo

#24in48 Hour 6 Challenge: Fave SFF Series | Believe it or not, the first of these books was a drunk-buy at the Strand! I haven‘t had a more productive post-drinks bookstore run since, tbh. I was utterly weirded out by the strange writing style at first, but it wasn‘t long before I was totally, completely pulled into Todd‘s narration & the insane, beautiful, dangerous planet he called home. Also, his relationship with Viola is EVERYTHING. @24in48

I‘m still not sure how I feel about this book. The concept was really cool, but the main character was infuriating. Plus, I knew better than to read a book in a series, because now I want to know what happens, but I don‘t want to have to read 1000 more pages in order to learn. 🤦‍♀️

This was so good!!! I couldn't put it down. Patrick Ness does such a good job of unfurling a story, little by little, in a way that made me just fly through the pages. 5⭐

TW: something happens with an animal that is very sad, and I know that's a deal-breaker for lots of people.

This was unexpectedly different.
The story, the characters and the way it is told.
Ness have this way where he climbs into your emotions and takes them for the ride of their lives. At first you don‘t realize what is happening, you‘re just there enjoying the story – happily riding along. Then BHAM!!! out of nowhere if hits you – all the feels in the world.

This book made me laugh; it made me cry; it made me want to kill.

More photographic proof from Ness‘ Instagram that reshoots for the Chaos Walking movie are in progress. I really like Tom Holland in this roll and am hopeful the movie will be a good one. The Chaos Walking trilogy is hands down one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, YA trilogies. It‘s definitely an example of genre or age defying books and I can‘t wait to see it brought to life. (Did I mention Daisy Ridley‘s also in the movie?!? She is!)

Great news from Patrick Ness via Instagram—reshoots for the Chaos Walking movie have started!!! Found the news a few other places and Tom Holland has posted about it on social media which means we are definitely inching—slowly, slowly—towards the release of this much delayed movie. Definitely excited to see this on the big screen and very interested to see how they will depict Noise in a visual medium. Should be fun!

Absolutely brilliant fantasy novel which is tagged YA, which I suppose is fair enough as the protagonists are teenagers but really it would be a pity if more (ahem) mature readers let this pass them by, as I nearly did. Also contains THE most gut-wrenching literary death I've read in ages. Just wonderful.

Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve had this on my shelf for a while now and I‘ve been meaning to get to it. It sounds great! 7mo
Erinreadsthebooks Great review! I don‘t love that it‘s tagged YA either. I think it‘s more ‘coming of age in a dystopia‘ 😏 7mo

Lizpixie @Cinfhen no worries lovely! I have more but I wasn‘t sure that you like the genre(fantasy/sci-fi) 8mo
Andrew65 @Lizpixie The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo was good as an audiobook. Other good ones for me were The Help, The Outlander Series, 11.22.63, The Hunger Games, The Century Trilogy - Ken Follett, Tony Hill / Carol Jordan Series-Val McDermid, David Baldacci‘s Books, The Forgotten Legion Trilogy by Ben Kane, The Light Between Oceans, Roy Grace Series by Peter James, Assassin‘s Apprentice - Robin Hobbs I tend to prefer historical fiction as audiobooks. 8mo

This was a great book that wasn't at all what I expected, but it's also one of those books where you can't talk about anything after chapter one without really spoiling the book, so I'm not going to get into details. It's the best dystopian novel I've read in a while, and does a great job of avoiding my usual complaint with the genre (series ruining twists out of nowhere).

This was a can't put it down read for me.
