#DraculaDaily

Read up to 15 August and this is becoming Ming very gripping 🤩

Mina is really a great character and a good friend. She is definitely going above and beyond for Lucy.
I love how Stoker manages to let horror elements filtering in the story and still make it absolutely natural that the characters don't think anything of them.

Finally, news from Jonathan!

tpixie Great review! 6mo
Daisey All true! 6mo
dabbe Every time I reread this, I always wonder why everyone is so stupid to not figure things out. Then I realize that I have read the story many times and already know the answers! #duh Still, Stoker really does foreshadow events quite spectacularly. 🤩 6mo
JazzFeathers @dabbe l know, right? That's the problem with the classics. We know them even before we read them, and we forget how reader must have felt the first time they read this story. 6mo

Bklover Couldn‘t get your link to work, but I wanted to welcome you to #LitsyLove! I haven‘t traveled much, but I still think the farm fields of southern Illinois in the US are the most beautiful places on earth. 😉😊 1y
dabbe @Bklover Stupid me forgot to make the link public. #duh I have never been to southern Illinois. It sounds heavenly, maybe similar to the corn fields in Iowa? #fieldofdreams 😊 Thanks for the #LitsyLove, too! I'm excited to be a wee part of such a phenomenal group! 🤗 1y
Bklover Definitely similar to corn fields in Iowa! (A lot of people find it flat and boring.) 1y

BarkingMadRead @KristiAhlers I was so proud of her 1y

KristiAhlers @BarkingMadRead me too. Especially considering the time period. Women didn‘t have much say in things and the church was also very much in control of things even then. 1y
IndoorDame SO proud of her this chapter! Though there‘s that tiny voice in the back of my head reminding me that the Protestant church genuinely thought the Catholics were just as evil and were just as frightened of them, so on some level she‘s probably still being controlled by men and religion, just one‘s back home in England. 1y
peanutnine I appreciated how she admitted to being moved by the pamphlet but was still like nope, not for me thanks 1y
Bookwormjillk Go Lucy! 1y
RebelReader What made my heart happy was that she didn‘t cave to the approval of these men! Even though I think @IndoorDame makes a valid point, I still think it took guts to not give into Pere and Paul pressure. (edited) 1y
Clare-Dragonfly I was hoping you would get a picture of a spaniel for this chapter 😆 1y
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly the spaniel was in the works until the whole religion thing happened 🤣🤣🐶🐶 1y
Bklover Good grief. I‘m glad she didn‘t cave, like the rest of you. Sometimes it seems like there aren‘t too many things that M Paul actually likes about Lucy. @IndoorDame you have a good point! @KristiAhlers @peanutnine @Bookwormjillk @RebelReader 1y
Bklover @Clare-Dragonfly the spaniel is a great idea!😂 1y
Bklover @BarkingMadRead Great photo! I‘m really tired of MPaul treating her like crap. I agree- she needs to run Lucy run! 🏃🏻‍♀️ 1y

I am a freaky fan of all things Victorian, especially stories. Throw in ghosts, and I'm there! Throw in Christmas, and I'll meet you with a cup of peppermint Schnapps and hot cocoa. This was a collection, and I hadn't heard of most of the authors, so these gems are hard to find. Some were hokey, some were serious, all were fun. Time to sit by the cozy fire and start reading!

TheBookHippie Oh these I need!!! 1y
dabbe @TheBookHippie They have other books, too! Perfect for this time of year. 😊 1y
TheBookHippie @dabbe I was looking my grandma read us Victorian ghost stories at Christmas and @IamIamIam suggested these then I saw your amazing pic and now I need them all. 1y

I haven't read the others yet but will definitely read at least one by 12/31!

Y‘all… I‘m an idiot! I swear that last October when they posted the date for this round that it was today - but NOPE! It‘s next week Saturday! I‘m so stupid. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Oh well! I‘ll still be reading This Tender Land today, but I won‘t feel guilty now for doing housework, etc. #duh

Readerann I actually did a personal Readathon this Saturday (the 23rd) because I will be traveling next weekend and have to miss the official one. 😢 I‘ll miss checking in with my fav RAT pal! ❤️ 2y

#RightBookWrongReader There was nothing wrong with this book except there was just SO MUCH SCIENCE and I just didn‘t love it like others did. Audio narration was fabulous 🎧❤️ Enjoyed the subtle humor

julesG The science is a bit much, I agree. Lots of centrifuges, too. 😁😁😁 3y
Cinfhen Yes!!! Too much centrifuges not enough musical interludes! I did enjoy The Beatles ♥️ @julesG it‘s also a little anticlimactic because YOU KNOW he‘s going to save the world #Duh 🙄 3y
julesG 🤣🤣🤣 I was wondering what would happen to Grace after saving the world. Would he starve on his ship? Or fly it into a sun? Would he commit suicide? Also, I loved Rocky's sense of humour. 😁 3y

Cinfhen I loved the friendship between Rocky & Royland and I KNEW Royland was going to somehow save Rocky and his universe too @julesG it just plays better on the big screen ❤️ 3y
Megabooks It does have a very cinematic quality to it. It is a lot of (imperfect) science, but I found it to be enjoyable. Especially the Rocky parts!! 3y
Cinfhen Yes: Rocky stole the show...and his partner Adrian made me chuckle 🤭 @Megabooks 3y

This is the book flap pic of the author.

I saw from someone else‘s feed that this one fit the bill for Saskatchewan in #ReadCanada
All the way through I kept thinking that was a seriously tenuous link....
Oh how wrong I was. The opposite of tenuous. #Saskatchewan is everything. 💓 🌾
#duh

MsMelissa So glad you enjoyed this! I‘ve been having trouble settling on a book, so I think I‘m just going to quit putting this one off and read it now 😊 4y
runswithscissors007 @Book_Fiend_Melissa This was a quick read. Compelling not easy. 4y
