Bookwormjillk Glad she has Frank 2w

quietjenn @5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk so say we all 2w
ElizaMarie I‘m so sad for her! To feel the way she does (inadequate). I wish she was able to talk to her HUSBAND about these things, but #AtLeastSheHasFrank. He is such a sweet man :) Also, yes “modest” has a billion different meanings. #WhatDoYouMean 2w
dabbe I'm glad she has Frank, too, but ouch to his last line: “I suppose she was the most beautiful creature I ever saw in my life.“

Yet ... he calls Rebecca a “creature.“ I looked up the definition and found two interesting thoughts re: Miss-holier-than-thou Rebecca:
1. an animal, as distinct from a human being
2. a fictional being, typically a FRIGHTENING one.

Perhaps Rebecca ain't all she's cracked up to be. 🧐
2w
julieclair @dabbe The word “creature” jumped out at me, too! Such an interesting word choice. What could it mean? 🤔 2w
dabbe @julieclair Makes us want to keep reading on, right? 🤩🤩🤩 2w
julieclair @dabbe Absolutely! Du Maurier is such a gifted writer. 2w

AnnR I've got a general feel for the personalities but will see how things progress. They all sound a bit snobby. 6mo
Bookwormjillk I‘m looking forward to seeing how things work out with all these snobs. 6mo

dabbe Is this one a chapter a day? 6mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe yes! There are 23 chapters so we will even be done before it‘s time for Turkey! 6mo
BarkingMadRead @annr @Bookwormjillk I‘m glad I‘m not the only one 🤣🤣 6mo
AnneCecilie Sybil definitely sounds interesting, but then Pym always has some interesting female characters in the her novels. 6mo
kspenmoll Still waiting on my order from Blackwell‘s. Not in my library 6mo
dabbe @BarkingMadRead #woohoo! 💜🖤🧡 6mo
eeclayton I'm glad this book got chosen. It felt so cozy to step back into Pym's world. 6mo
Cuilin Something tells me we‘re not in Wessex anymore. 6mo
Graciouswarriorprincess I'm starting this tonight after work. @barkingmadread can you please add me to the daily list? Thanks. :) 6mo
rubyslippersreads I enjoy reading about these people, but I don‘t think I‘d enjoy actually hanging out with them. 😏 6mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig I like that this one is seasonal. St Luke's Day is October 18th. Evil Chrystamums. 😆 Also someone remind me what the difference is between low and high church. I know we've discussed it before. 6mo
BarkingMadRead @Crinoline_Laphroaig low church is like Protestant and high church is Catholic, low church has less ritual and high church has more 6mo
Bklover @Crinoline_Laphroaig That was my question too- low and high church. And thanks for the explanation @BarkingMadRead 🤎🤎🤎 6mo
bthegood I laughed when Wilmet is thinking about Father Bode and thinks he might be the type who likes tin salmon but then she's embarrassed by that thought because he's a good man. 😂 6mo
peanutnine I do like Sybil so far however I find it interesting that she is another archaeologist. Is this a pattern with Pym characters or something from the time period? She wrote a woman archaeologist in Excellent Women as well. As a former archaeologist, I found it remarkable since the field has become so male-dominated 6mo
bthegood @peanutnine interesting point - I forgot that there was female archaeologist in that one! 6mo
julieclair So far, Sybil is the only one of these characters I like. 6mo
rwmg @peanutnine I associate Pym with anthropologists rather than archaeologists. No Pym novel is complete without the clergy and anthropologists. I suppose she met them in her day job and so they were just part of her world. 6mo

Ransom by Danielle Steel is a twist of Romance with the Fiction feel. I choose this because LOVE these genres. Peter Morgan, a man released from prison and wants to redeem himself to his young daughters. Carl Waters, a convicted murderer wants that same freedom. Ted Lee, a man who lives a relatively normal life + Fernanda Barnes who faces a life full of struggles. All their lives collide in a way none of them could imagine. #confused #intriguing

#OctoberXFiles After curing cancer, the common cold, and many other medical triumphs, humanity is facing something new and terrible, something that can't be stopped. As the #zombie virus spreads, bloggers Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the hunt to discover where this illness came from, and how to stop it. It's a modern version of the #zombie tale, has an ending that will truly shatter your heart to pieces. Blurb taken from Bustle. #intriguing

Cinfhen BTW: I‘m loving this month‘s playlist @Robothugs 🤘🏼 6y
Prairiegirl_reading I just found out a few weeks ago that Mira Grant is Seanon McGuire. I had no idea. I really like the Wayward Children series so this is intriguing for sure. 6y
BarbaraBB I‘m having a hard time with this month‘s playlist, I read so few books around its theme! Are you planning on reading this one 😱? 6y

Cinfhen I want too @BarbaraBB but I‘m looking for a cheap copy and it‘s over 600 pages!!!! I agree, it‘s hard to think of books but the MUSIC is great 🎵♥️ 6y
Cinfhen I‘m not familiar with that series @Prairiegirl_reading but this is meant to be a good trilogy... I don‘t read lots of zombie books but I like apocalyptic thrillers 6y
TrishB Interesting 👍🏻 6y
BarbaraBB Yes that is definitely true 🎶 6y
Cathythoughts Scarey , sinister ... 6y
Robothugs 😱😱 6y
Robothugs I‘m so glad you are! @Cinfhen! 😄 @BarbaraBB it doesn‘t have to just be title, it can be lyrics or the vibe you get from the song 🤷🏻‍♀️ people had some fun with one way or another 6y
Reggie Lol, until the last line I was thinking, she didn‘t read this, did she? Lol 6y
Cinfhen Nope, I didn‘t read this one @Reggie Did you?? I‘m kind of curious ~ I like books that deal with viruses & epidemics 😷 6y
Reggie I have it and I took it to work with every intention of reading it but forgot it there, so now it‘s just languishing in a drawer at work waiting to be remembered. 6y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen I read this a few years ago. It was required for a college course that my nephew had taken. It was fun and included some political intrigue! 6y
Cinfhen That‘s interesting @DivineDiana I‘m gonna look for a used copy 6y
Cinfhen It sounds like a book you would enjoy @Reggie 6y

Mehso-so

I felt #ambivalent and conflicted about this book. But overall, it was an #intriguing and #whimsical novel. If you're the reader who likes a lot of descriptions and don't mind the slow pace, you'd enjoy this book a lot more.

raresquarebear I really enjoyed the photos! They fit the story so perfectly. 8y
