Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death
Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death | M C Beaton
When Mrs. Agatha Raisin decides to retire early to the English Cotswolds, she envisions herself enjoying all that country life has to offer: garden parties, tea at the vicarage, and a cozy home far from the noise and smell of London. Life in the village of Carsley is not as Agatha anticipated, however. Much to her surprise, she doesn't attract much interest among the villagers. No one comes to call; there are no invitations to tennis or tea. A miserable Agatha is forced to acknowledge that she is but another newcomer to the well-established Carsley society. Agatha didn't succeed in business by being a shrinking violet, though, so she shakes off her doubts and resolves to make her mark on the village: She will enter Carsley's Great Quiche Competition and win! The fact that Agatha has never baked so much as a potato in her life doesn't stop her; she submits a delectable store-bought quiche as her own. Having dusted off her mantlepiece to accommodate her silver cup, Agatha is stunned to see the award go to another entry. Her surprise turns to horror, however, when the contest judge drops dead - from poison the police trace to Agatha's "homemade" spinach pie. Agatha is now the talk of the town - though not exactly in the manner she had hoped. In an effort to clear her name, she turns amateur sleuth - as Beaton introduces a witty and well-crafted new mystery series peopled with quirky characters and all endearingly eccentric sleuth.

I finally got a chance to watch the movie version of the first Agatha Raisin novel. I‘ve seen the TV seasons but not this. Not reading, but still a fun #CozyintheSun activity!

I have read this one before but I wanted to refresh my memory because I‘m planning to read more Agatha Raisin for #CozyintheSun this month! I still liked the story, although it makes me realize how the TV version changed Agatha some. The TV version isn‘t nearly as grumpy. The audiobook from my library includes book two so I‘m starting it soon. Then I‘m going to rewatch the episodes.

ferskner Eeeeeee watching adaptations of mysteries is my favorite!!! This sounds so fun! 2w
Clutterbucks_Queen I've read all the Agatha Raisins and they are wonderful! 😍 2w
MallenNC @Clutterbucks_Queen I've only read a couple of them but I've watched all of the TV show. I'm going to try to read at least three of them this month. 2w

Clutterbucks_Queen I think they're so worth the read! I haven't seen the shows yet, are they any good?x 2w
MallenNC @Clutterbucks_Queen I like the show. They‘ve changed some things. Ashley Jensen, who was in Ugly Betty, plays Agatha and she seems younger and less grumpy than the character is in the books. 2w

The first book i read by M.C Beaton!
My grandmother used to read M.C Beaton titles when i was a little girl and the covers always used to appeal to me. I thoroughly enjoyed this title!
The Agatha Raisin series have a lovely humorous aspect to them to make light reading.

As the newbie in the Village, it's assumed that Agatha is behind poisoning her quiche with the intent of murdering, but can she prove she's innocent with the village against her?

A dreary morning makes for bad lighting but reading this book has cheered me up. It's a delightful romp about a poisoned quiche entered in a village cooking contest. Agatha Raisin, recent incomer from London, can't cook to save her life and had in fact bought said quiche from a bakery, sets out to put things right.
Warning: grumpy main character; lots of microwaved meals; might make you think twice about retiring to little English village

Cinfhen Ha! NOW you‘re DONE 😜🎉🙌🏻way to go and great review!!! 1y

Now that's more like it... the kids are asleep, I've got my pjs on and the mystery crochet-along that I'm working on, also the pitterpatter of rain outside. Some quiet to read and crochet! This week feels very long...

Thanks to suggestions @julesG and @Rachellynnwright I downloaded this #cozymystery for #booked2018
I kinda love this cute version of the cover!

No quiche to accompany it though instead it was freshly made noodles (fresh from a factory in Alameda that is!), braised chicken wings, garlicky broccoli and crispy tofu!

JennyBookworm I loved that series! I'm on her Hamish Macbeth series now 1y
RealLifeReading @nelehelen like @readinginthedark said, it's a fun read! 1y
RealLifeReading @MinDea to be honest I don't have a recipe! It's more of a splash some sesame oil, a tsp or so of soy sauce, a bit of oyster sauce (if you don't have oyster sauce, you can leave it out), and a squirt of ketchup (my husband prefers his without ketchup and he puts siracha instead). I also put in some white pepper and mix it up, it's just up to your taste, and adjust. Then throw your cooked noodles in. And adjust if it's not enough 1y
RealLifeReading @MinDea I do that a lot w instant noodles - I boil the noodles, throw out all the seasoning packets and make my own sauce. Sorry I don't have exact measurements but just go w small amounts and after you mix it up you can always add more if not tasty enough! Hope that helps 1y
RealLifeReading @julesG @Rachellynnwright she certainly is a character! 1y
RealLifeReading @Abailliekaras she definitely has a lot of fans! 1y
RealLifeReading @Jeg oh! Didn't know there's a tv series! 1y

I have only been on Litsy for a bit over a month, so there are thousands of books I loved before but the tagged book was a birthday gift last April and after I devoured it, I promptly hunted down the rest of the series.
It's a light, cozy mystery. Nothing to set the world on fire, but great for a relaxing read. Some people don't like Agatha's personality but she makes me giggle😀 (and sometimes cringe) 😬
