Great book- struggled a little at the beginning but managed to get into the storyline. Great twists and turns and mystery element. Found some of the tone of some of the characters a bit whiny but didn't stop me from enjoying. Definitely recommend 🧙

A break from Karin Slaughter, finally getting around to reading this one that Bear picked out ❤️🐻
My book club will be discussing this one a little later in the month- I usually wait to listen a bit closer but I don‘t think I‘ll have any trouble remembering this one! In 1998, Luna‘s mother and two sisters go missing. In 2021, she receives a call that her younger sister has been found… but she‘s not 29… she‘s still 7! Multiple timelines and narrators make this a quick and engaging listen! The plot takes some unexpected turns but it‘s fun!

I really liked this book. I wanted to scream at the mom a lot of the time. I liked going back and forth in time and the journal entries. I‘m really glad I picked this one up.

Here are the books I want to finish for #20in4 #Readathon
I have all 4 days off but do have plans Sat and Sun. I‘m hoping to finish my audio which should be no problem. I‘m at 72%. And then I‘ve started both books in print, just haven‘t made a dent.
And I‘m hoping to not get distracted by books on my kindle and read my print books.
Yay! It‘s opening day for #FFFS !
I‘m so excited about these 2 books! They‘ve been on my TBR for a bit and now I have an excuse to read them!
The blanket is super soft and so cute! The candle is super cute and I love me a Reese‘s! And it took me forever to find where you hid the tea (so it‘s not pictured 🤣)
Thanks so much for everything!
I really enjoyed the tale told by C.J Cooke, a story based around the Scottish witch trials, folklore and wildlings. Suspenseful and skin tingling at times, particularly when the story is being told by the characters in the past. Made me check my children for marks 🤣🤣 I look forward to more by this author.
August was a hit or miss month. I really enjoyed some of the stuff I read, but I also read some stuff that I didn‘t like. I also dnfed more than I read. Some I put down to pick up at another time, but I just couldn‘t push through Old Country. So I‘m still on the hunt for some spooky season reads. Help me out and drop a few in the comments. I need some material for my September tbr.

I adored this one! Really atmospheric with great twists.

I really enjoyed parts of The Lighthouse Witches. It‘s set on a remote Scottish Island that is full of folklore. It‘s so atmospheric and creepy. But there were a few glaring plot issues that were hard to ignore. And then a sci-fi plot line came out of left field and completely dissolved the folklore plot line that I loved.

I‘m going to be honest; I don‘t imagine that I will read very much this month. We‘re right in the middle of remodeling our house and it‘s probably going to take a month to get everything back in place when they‘re finished. The chances of having enough time to read is slim. Plus, all of my things from my living room are blocking my tbr shelf right now. So I‘m reading the two books that I have access to. 😂😂😂
What are you reading in August?
I wasn't planning on doing any shelf rearranging today but somebody wanted to pull out an entire shelf's worth of "Big, Heavy" books ?
Guess it's a sign to finally put those new books I bought away
I loved this book. The cover art is amazing, as well. 5🌟/5🌟
They bind our feet and ankles, tear off our clothes and douse us with alcohol. #firstlinefridays
Kind of a dark way to start, but I'm here for it 😅
Been dying to finish this one it was so good! Set in Scotland where girls go missing, it was magical and atmospheric with well written characters and I couldn‘t put it down

So if ever there was an argument for plugging along through a book you aren‘t loving it‘s this one! It took me so long to finish this and I admit I started skimming through the middle. Then magic happened and I figured out what was really going on and by the end I loved this novel! So so good! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This book checked a lot of boxes for me, and ended up being one of my most surprising picks of the year so far.
My review of this NetGalley gem and perfect fall read is on my blog: http://sprainedbrain.blog/2021/11/07/review-the-lighthouse-witches-by-c-j-cooke/

My #UnpopularOpinion of the day: This is probably the dullest piece of Gothic fiction I‘ve ever read. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#the-lighthouse-witches
Tending my plant babies while I'm waiting for the cauliflower soup to boil.
Just noticed that my lucky bamboo has a new sprouting. The peppermint cuttings I took from a friend's garden for tea have sprouted roots.
Also, my daughter's "we'll make salt crystals" experiments from Spring are still on the tray.

Some recent purchases from the Target (top photo) and Amazon (bottom photo) Buy 2 Get 1 Free sales! Reading The Lighthouse Witches now - early days but really good so far - and most of the others I‘m adding to next month‘s Bookspin Bingo board. Both The Song of Achilles and It Ends With Us are impulse buys after hearing rave reviews on TikTok. Hopefully I love them too!
This was a wonderfully atmospheric read for Halloween season. When two children go missing on a remote Scottish island in 1998, the frantic mother is told stories of witches and wildings (supernatural children that look like real children). In 2021 the third child is now an adult and rushes back to the island when she gets word one of her sisters has been found. I enjoyed the book, giving it an almost 4/5 stars.
Book 16 for October themed reads. This one was SO good! Scottish lore, dynamic characters. Totally worth picking up and reading!
Review is up on my blog. Check it out!

I just finished this one last night! So good, couldn‘t put it down!! Read it! Perfect for this time of year!
C. J. Cooke‘s The Lighthouse Witches is out today! I loved this book—perfect creepy vibes for fall! And a lovely Blueberry Peach Cobbler teacup candle from Beautifully Novel (you can find her on Etsy, if you‘re interested).
The Lighthouse Witches takes place on an island off the west coast of Scotland (for some reason it's never called the Hebrides in this book.) A mother moves there to paint a mural inside a lighthouse and uproots her daughters to do so, but then they disappear. The island has a long sordid history including witchhunts and missing children, and the author has used a lot from Scottish folklore and history.
