Instructions for Dancing
Instructions for Dancing | Nicola Yoon
#1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything, Everything and The Sun is Also a Star Nicola Yoon is back with a new and utterly unique romance. Evie is disillusioned about love ever since her dad left her mum for another woman - she's even throwing out her beloved romance novel collection. When she's given a copy of a book called Instructions for Dancing, and follows a note inside to a dilapidated dance studio, she discovers she has a strange and unwelcome gift. When a couple kisses in front of her, she can see their whole relationship play out - from the moment they first catch each other's eye to the last bitter moments of their break-up. For Evie, it confirms everything she thinks she knows about love - that it doesn't last. But at the dance studio she meets X - tall, dreadlocked, fascinating - and they start to learn to dance, together. Can X help break the spell that Evie is under? Can he change Evie's mind about love? Praise for Nicola Yoon: 'Gorgeous and lyrical' New York Times 'Powerful, lovely, heart-wrenching' Jennifer Niven 'This extraordinary first novel about love so strong it might kill us is too good to feel like a debut' Jodi Picoult

I thought this was a sweet book. A YA romance with a touch of fantasy. Evie becomes disillusioned with love after the separation of her parents and has to work out for herself - is love really worth the risk? I really enjoyed the dance studio setting (and her instructor Fifi 😊) ⭐⭐⭐.5

Took a break from the holiday reads. I've always been a fan of Nicola Yoon. This one was a bit different, but still good. Bahn Turpin's narration was excellent as usual. 👍

With how busy it‘s been with grad school since I read this, bear with me 📚 this book came to me at the perfect time and place. After reading some amazing books that had been really hard/ read difficult subjects to read, this was just the light-ish book I needed. Not sure why I didn‘t pick it up sooner, but I‘m glad I read it when I did. Finished it in one day!💙

Just finished and it was pretty good. I liked the premise of this and the idea of seeing peoples love lives doesn‘t really appeal to me personally.

BookishGirl06 Also the ending is more of a HFN then a HEA which sucks but I kind of expected an ending 2mo

This was fun read if you are looking for@something over the weekend or in a day. I have read other books from this author and her sweet style stays the same. There is one thing in the book I did not agree with is the secret the main character was forced to hold even when the book was coming to a resolve. That small white lie/keeping the secret when she shouldn‘t have is the only troubling part for me. 7.5/10. #ya #WOCLead

First, I LOVE this cover! The colors, the illustration *chefs kiss*

As for the story, I ADORED the first 3/4 — sooooo cute & funny with romcom tropes like flirting while playing pool — but the last 1/4 took a turn I wasn‘t expecting and the resolution felt rushed & unsatisfying. I still recommend it because most of the book is ADORABLE, but it didn‘t stick the landing IMO.

Great #BookSpinBingo month for me! My goal was to tackle some of my #BOTM and #ShelfSubscription and I read 6 BOTM and 2 shelf subscriptions. Got in one nonfiction (my goal is at least one a month) and a couple library books. I read both my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin and got a bingo! I loved or liked all of them. Not a dud in the bunch. My favs of the month were Last Summer at TheGolden Hotel, Florence Adler Swims Forever, 56 Days. #OctoberStats

Dang that was a good book. I definitely did not expect that twist toward the end, but I loved it anyway. Plus isn‘t the unexpected what makes things so great? I wish that there was a bit more magic and a more in-depth explanation of witch lady, but overall a great book. 5🌟

A teenager who caught her dad cheating, and who‘s parents are now divorced, no longer believes in love. Enter some magical realism so she can see the entire lifespan of a relationship when people kiss, and she‘s even more cynical… but she falls in love anyway.

It‘s cute, it‘s funny, it doesn‘t take itself too seriously. And the characters are wonderful, emotionally balanced, and insightful. Not my favorite genre, but well done

I loved this bittersweet story about love and heartbreak. When Evie‘s parents get divorced, she loses faith in love. But then she meets a stranger who bestows upon her an unusual gift. Soon this encounter leads her to learning to ballroom dance with a handsome stranger named X. But to truly fall in love, Evie needs to find the strength to open herself up to both joy and pain. This month‘s #botm #bookspin left me in (good) tears.

From a YA perspective about friends and romance this book is adorable. But what I really loved was the supporting story about the affair and subsequent marriage of the MC‘s father. I thought it was presented in beautiful way. Sometimes, in those situations, no one is the a**hole, and that‘s important to understand.

This was a lovely YA love story. A girl has lost faith in love. A boy says yes to everything. A ballroom dance competition. A little bit of magic. Though it didn‘t have my favorite type of ending. So 4⭐️

I enjoyed this book, but with caveats. It's a tale of a girl, bitter about love after her parents' divorce, granted the power to see a highlight reel of people's love stories.
It is about enjoying the now rather than worrying about endings. As such it tackles grief and infidelity pretty head on. And for regular romance readers, it's tough because the absolutes about romance novels presented, are pretty clearly based on movies and not books.

3 for most of the book buy 4⭐ by the ending. Tough emotional topics handled incredibly well for teens. I didn't like the mysticism of the book keeper because it pulled away from the other storyline but agree something needed to give Evie the visions, just would have done it differently somehow.

I finished this #botm earlier in the week. I enjoyed it very much. Evie is having a hard time dealing with her parents divorce and her father cheating on her mother. It has a magic element that I was not expecting at all. And it has a very bittersweet ending. So be prepared for that. This was my July #BookSpin.
