I am a sucker for history and historical fiction. This fit both. Beautiful and rich story. Great read.
I felt a little deflated after reading this... It felt like a very "Negative Nancy" kind of story line and then got worse! It held my attention rather well, but it didn't leave me feeling anything but sad.
It has a very unique plot, and well formed characters. It's also very thoroughly researched for the time period. I just wish there were more cause for joy. A happier finish... It seemed, to me anyway, that in the end everyone loses.
I found all of this, in the street, in side a rustic basket... It's great collection but sure I won't read all of them...
I wondering just the three firsts...
👄
Did you read some of them, in what, language? Tag me if you made a review...

So my previous read was Signature of All Things.
This has some definite similarities... not at all what I was expecting.
Giving this a try...
Okay, so on the way to the bank I passed the charity shop. Only I didn't pass. I went in and this book insisted on coming home with me. I explained that I already had a huge pile of books that hadn't been read yet but it still insisted on coming home with me. After paying 99p here I am with this beautiful hardback book 😊
This book is set in #amsterdam and is a rather creepy tale... I enjoyed it but I‘m not sure it lived up to the hype and I didn‘t like the ending....
Thank you for a wonderful month of #wanderingjune Barbara and Cindy - it‘s been such fun! 😁
Another #PrettyBooks for me. #30JuneBooks
I‘m surprised to see such opposite reviews on this! Probably because I started it before all the hypes set in & so I wasn‘t expecting anything while reading it, but was immediately drawn by its beautiful writing and the setting of the story, a period fiction with a little mystery & sadness. A beautiful cover too
Which one are you, love it?Or hate it?

I completely bailed out from this one. I've heard such nice reviews about this book. Such nice reviews. And I was so excited to read this one. But, this one was so bland for me. I've seen so many people love it, but this just didn't click with me. I expected it to be dank and dark. I read the summary after bailing out, and found my decision of bailing out to be apt.
Any reviews, people?
Can't even rate it, Sorry.

It took about 15 months after I first bought this book to pick it back up and start reading it and I could NOT put it down! It‘s an immersive tale with unexpected twists and turns.
Again I'm underwhelmed by Jessie Burton, and I'm beginning to think that perhaps she's not the author for me. "The Miniaturist" started well but couldn't really keep me interested and its 400+ pages dragged on quite a lot which definitely didn't help the situation. I didn't hate it but I won't be recommending this book to anyone in a hurry - 2 stars.
My full review is up on my blog now ?
In preparation for our trip to #Amsterdam I have these books I‘ll be taking with me! I‘ve also been saving The Silent Patient for this trip to read on the plane! Looking forward to tulips, stroopwaffels and spending time with the hubby!
⭐️⭐️⭐️: The premise for this one was immediately intriguing, but mostly found this book falling a bit flat. I had a hard time connecting with the characters.
Interesting.
Wouldn't call it "haunting" like it says, but nice and different era.
A strange story of love, consequences, life & death. It compels you & fascinates. Woven through the story is the strange influence of the miniaturist.
Trying to narrow down some choices for #groupk #lmpbc #round5
I seem to be going in the historical mystery direction, possibly with some witchcraft thrown in. What say you, friends?
I liked this but did not love it. The story is fine overall but weaves too much into a short time span and ultimately I glance at lives of characters without feeling I know them. I found myself enjoying it when i read it but not rushing to pick up. I am certain many will love it but ultimately it's a bit dull for me.
I'd heard such food reviews of this and I finally got around to reading it. I thought the writing was very nice but it was so slow and boring! I enjoyed it when I was reading it but it didn't make me rush to pick it up again (hence with it took me so long to read it) I wasn't sad to finish it and found it so long and drawn out
I was very impressed with this book! I‘ve read some reviews by readers who felt that the mystery of the character of the miniaturist wasn‘t adequately revealed and/or was anticlimactic. I‘ve also read that some readers felt this book didn‘t live up to the hype, but that wasn‘t the case for me. I felt that the character development was very well done, and the writing was exquisite. Highly recommended!
I‘ve been listening to this #audiobook this morning while cleaning & cooking breakfast. I‘ve read 2 3/4 hours so far today. I‘m definitely going to finish this book later on today!

Another #momreviews but I think she‘s given too much away so I‘ve marked as a spoiler. I didn‘t care for this one either because of the disappointing ending. Going into the giveaway stack. @Momreviews
Has been in the TBR stack for too long. Tried last year and gave up but going to be done this month. Hope it's as good as some say
It took six or seven tries to get this shot of #Chloe with this book. I am not actually DNFing because book club, but I want to run away from it. The prose is so PURPLE. I read my husband several passages aloud to highlight how silly some of it feels... I don‘t know, it‘s a bestseller, and I‘ve read some wordy stuff I‘ve loved. But this book is like swimming through peanut butter. #catsoflitsy #tuxedokittiesoflitsy @MinDea
I loved this book! An enchanting tale (though slightly gruesome an a little spooky at times) set pre-19th century. I loved the characters and found the plot really interesting and different from what I was expecting. Thoroughly recommended!
I‘m 5 hours into the #24B42019 readathon! I don‘t know if I‘ll hit 24 hours, but I‘m having fun. The tagged book is great so far. The image text is something I came across online. I‘m not sure where the quote is taken from, but I thought it was really cool & decided to share the image anyway. If anyone knows the author of it, comment ⬇️⬇️⬇️ & let me know!
This cover reminds me of a #hazyshadeofwinter and the movie is waiting to be watched in my house. #winterwonderland I have to admit, as much as I love S&G I am #teambangles when it comes to listening to this song.
I‘ve been wanting to read this book for ages following a recommendation - have since heard other conflicting reviews so am interested to make up my own mind!
Thank you so much, Nikki and Debbie! I‘m very excited to have these books on my Kindle... both have been on my wish list for a long time. ❤️
#kindlitsy is amazing!
How cute is this??
Yeah I did it! 50 books this year, with time to spare! 🥳
This was a long one! I guess I would rate this as so-so. Found it slightly anti-climatic. Had a good build up with everything surrounding the miniaturist but the ending fell a little flat. pretty good overall.
Progressing quite quickly with this one. Hopefully I can finish it this week, because my next audiobook I had on hold became available.
Overall I loved this book & the very feel of it. It was good to have some historical fiction set in the Netherlands, & in the late 17th century. By the sound of the book a very controlling community you didn‘t want to get on the wrong side of. A few shocks in here especially towards the end. I did this as an audiobook, which was perfect, and read by the author. If anything a bit slow in places and the very end of the book left me wanting more.

Read this after watching the pbs miniseries, which had fabulous costumes and miniatures! I enjoyed the book more.
I enjoyed this book! I didn‘t love how all of the plot points ironed out, but the atmosphere was fantastic — I love how you‘re never quite sure if there‘s magic swirling around you — and the characters so vivid. Now off to watch the Masterpiece adaptation!
Note: We tried to make a book face, but the camera wouldn‘t focus!

Great book!
