I find myself reading two books with whale in the title and their story of washing up on shore happening in the background. Whale Fall has a very different writing style - spare, straightforward and clipped sentences. Where The Whalebone Theatre is very lyrical and descriptive. Whale Fall just arrived from@the library today. While its writing style is a big change from what I was reading I am interested in its story so far!

Book friends are best friends 🥰 This was a fun gift given to me by my Literary Hoarder partner. Her daughter said it‘s perfect- I could measure with it, stencil, mark my place in a book with it. 🤣

I did not enjoy this book. No character had any redeeming qualities and I was left wondering what the point/purpose was overall. At first I thought Nugent‘s writing of a narcissistic mother and sibling rivalry was on point but it became unbearable as everyone was awful about everything and to each other. It sits in my donation box ready to leave my house.

Started this one on the weekend. Sarcastic, sibling rivalry is on point as is a narcissistic mother. I‘m interested to see where this is going.

Lovely literary mystery with just the right amount of cozy. A touch too long in my opinion but the writing was great.

The Diamond Eye was great! I stayed up later than usual to finish. 🌟🌟🌟🌟The Ordinary Failings book wasn‘t so great for me. I‘d be surprised if it made the shortlist of the Women‘s Prize. Or disappointed over surprised. I gave it 2.5 stars. The ending improved it for me. Then I read Western Lane. It was better over Ordinary Failings - a decent story about grief. That‘s a 3 star for me and again, surprised if it makes the shortlist.

annahenke I was absolutely floored by how good this was. Love everything by this author! 2mo
LiteraryHoarderPenny @annahenke ❤️ I‘ve been told The Huntress is even better than Diamond Eye so I‘ve tucked that away for future reading! 2mo

Reading all the books at once. Other one not showing: Western Lane by Chetna Maroo. Ordinary Human Failings and Western Lane are on the recently announced Women‘s Prize Longlist and both are very short and were available to download from my library. How could I resist? In audio I‘m listening to If You Ask me by Eleanor Roosevelt. It‘s why I pulled Diamond Eye from my shelf. 😊

So I promised my son I‘d read his beloved Dune before the 2nd movie came out in March. It‘s slow going for me, I‘m not a big sci-fi reader. Now that I‘ve finished my library book, I need to turn my attention back to it. I went out and bought my copy. I don‘t mind this movie cover at all but can always, always do without these “Dune Part 2” non-removable stickers on them. ☹️

Well wasn‘t this just the most wonderful book? This was picked up on a whim from a Valentine‘s Day display at the library. I was there picking up books for our book club and thought this sounded like the sweetest book. Our book ended up choosing it too and I‘ve just finished. #BookClub

Very aptly named book. Loved the structure of how she gave the voice and importance to the women that lost their lives and bright futures to the unnamed man in the book. Loved how the author did that - very meaningful read. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Was looking for my next read and pulled these two seeing as the temps plummeted and we‘re experiencing bone chilling winds too - a “winter” themed book might be best? Two Canadian authors - I figure they would know how to write about winter? 🤭 #CanLit

Meticulously researched and written. Completely exhausted by the structured protection of shitty and horrible men. Exhausted. Read this for my non-fiction reading during 75Hard (although I‘m very much doing 75Soft this time around)

My sister today asked if I would buddy read this with her. I said okay, I just have to finish my current book first. 😊 My sister was never much of a reader before and has only started reading a few books a year and she gets excited when she can share recommendations. I haven‘t read this one - I know! So behind the times.

These are all the Canadian books I bought (or were sent to me) in 2023 that I haven‘t read yet. I plan on reading more from my shelves this year (I‘ll try!!) and I‘m looking forward to reading these in particular. Cut off from the picture is Tomson Highway‘s Kiss of the Fur Queen. #CanLit @Lindy

Lindy The only one in that stack that I have read is the Broken Heart of Winter. I liked it! And I‘ve been thinking of it since moving to Victoria because the MC lives here & works in a bakery. There are so many great bakeries in this city! 5mo

Hello. After months of- perhaps close to a year -of not being able to sign on to Litsy. After many frustrating attempts I broke down and just created a whole new profile. Which sucks because all the people I followed, all the content created is gone. Anyway - here‘s to 2024 hopefully working out on here and to be back to building up the great community here I had before. 🫶

Lindy Welcome back and I‘m sorry to hear that you‘ve had such an ordeal. 5mo
Lindy You can still find all your old content under your old account, although it sucks that you can‘t create new stuff there. @Penny_LiteraryHoarders 5mo
