Kill the Farm Boy: The Tales of Pell | Kevin Hearne, Delilah S Dawson

Mehso-so

If you prefer puns and innuendo over a cohesive plot this should be your book! Otherwise I recommend passing on this title. I had high hopes!

BethM Have you read other Kevin Hearne? 5mo
jimfields3 @BethM no, this was my first work from either author. Have you? 5mo
BethM Yes, I adore his Iron Druid series. I have this one sitting on my TBR pile. 5mo

jimfields3 @BethM I'm curious to hear your thoughts when you read it, especially how the style compares to his other works. 5mo
BethM I might move it up the pile now just because I‘m curious! (edited) 5mo

The steady stream of innuendos is becoming too much. I'd like to think I've become too sophisticated but maybe I'm too prudish.

What do you think? Does anyone else struggle with this? Do I just need to lighten up?

rretzler Sometimes I think that about myself as well. But too much of anything is just too much, even if it‘s something good. Sometimes I think it just takes away from the point of the story, something to “sell” the book which may have actually little to do with the plot. 5mo
jimfields3 @rretzler I like your perspective, especially about taking away from the plot! 5mo
LiterarySloth Some things are a bit much. I‘ve been getting through this one pretty slowly. I‘m slightly past this point at the moment. 5mo

jimfields3 @LiterarySloth I'm there with you. My expectations maybe were too high. 5mo
LiterarySloth @jimfields3 I thought the paragraph about the tower was hilarious but when the innuendos kept coming I thought, okay. Now you‘re even less subtle than Grease. 5mo
jimfields3 @LiterarySloth hahahahaha!! 5mo
Crazeedi Welcome to litsy!!🎉🎉 5mo
gallowbraids I just got this pun and I finished the book months ago. I rather enjoyed it and even bought the newest one. I did think the ending was rather abrupt. 5mo
jimfields3 @gallowbraids THAT'S a great word for it! Yes, very abrupt. Almost like they decided towards the end to make room for a sequel. Thank you! 5mo
gallowbraids Even when they killed off the wizard and rogue it was out of the blue as well, but I suppose dying kind of happens like that in real life. LOL 5mo

Shadowbahn | Steve Erickson
Panpan

I wanted to enjoy this book, but overall I felt like I wasn't smart enough to understand his message. Whether or not that is true, it was an uncomfortable feeling. Erickson uses nice imagery at times, but the flow was disjointed such that it was hard to follow.

kgriffith Welcome :) 6mo

Kaylamburson I always hate that feeling when you just don't seem to understand what the author is trying to do. Anyway, welcome to Litsy!! 6mo

Sweettartlaura I loved this, but I agree it was difficult. It felt ephemeral, fragile, and like something was rippling right under the surface that I could never quite make out. 5mo
