The Haunting of Tram Car 015
The Haunting of Tram Car 015 | P. Djeli Clark
24 posts | 25 read | 39 to read
In an alternate Cairo, humans live and work alongside otherworldly beings; the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities handles the issues that can arise between the magical and the mundane. Senior Agent Hamed Nasr shows his new partner Agent Onsi Youssef the ropes of investigation when they are called to subdue a dangerous, possessed tram car. What starts off as a simple matter of exorcism, however, becomes more complicated as the origins of the demon inside are revealed. Apart from its stunning cover I was trying to understand why I liked this novella so much. I realised that it is depicting a world which is imperfect yet bursting with optimism. I enjoyed it tremendously.

I love Clark‘s steampunk/magical Cairo with its djinns and its detectives who investigate supernatural occurrences. This one was a quick and fun read.

A quick and delightful read. All the stuff I love about steampunk with an amazing alternative history Cairo at the center.

I wish they would option a tv series based on this novella and the first one.

This didn't work as well for me as The Black God's drums, but it's enjoyable and the setting is great -- early 20th century alternate reality, where supernatural beings have become an everyday occurrence. I feel like I'd have liked it more with a more substantial plot; it wrapped up rather suddenly, and I have such questions about stuff that was barely featured!

Still, it was fun.

What a fun romp. Read this a while ago and just now getting around to posting something so my memory is a little fuzzy, but I do remember enjoying this immensely. I love the world Clark has created. The characters were entertaining and I just want to read more! Ultimately the mystery wasn‘t as good as I was hoping but I am eager and desperate for more stories in this world. Fingers crossed he visits it again soon.

This short fiction takes us to Cairo 1912, where worldly and otherworldly work together, ruled by the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments, and Supernatural Entities. When Agent Hamid and Agent Onsi are called to help with a haunted tram car, they find themselves on a search for a djinn.
Meanwhile, the women of Egypt have formed the Egyptian Feminist School that begun to educate woman and campaign to give woman the right to vote.
I loved this.

Another fantastic Tor novella. I would really love to see some full length novels set in this world. We need more from this author.

The world Clark has built here (& in A Dead Djinn in Cairo) is absolutely fascinating-- an alternate 1900s Cairo where supernatural & natural have mixed to create a combination of steampunk technology & magic. When a tram car becomes possessed, it's up to the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments & Supernatural Entities to solve the case. A short read, & one I'd highly recommend to fans of steampunk, fantasy, & alt. history.

This little novella is set in the early 1900 steam punk Cario. Two agents from some sort of ministry are assigned to investigate a spirit haunting a city tram car. Although the setting was a nice change from the norm and the story had potential It fell a little flat for me.

What a charming historical fantasy novella. Djinns, automatons, and detectives in 1912 Cairo - I‘ll follow up with more of P. Djeli Clark‘s stories. (And the author gets bonus points for owning a Boston terrier.)

Angitron I absolutely loved this one! He‘s such a good writer - haven‘t been disappointed by any of his stuff yet! 😊 6mo

I need to read more alternate histories with djinns/ other supernatural creatures, especially if it's also steampunk. Fun, quick read.

I really enjoyed The Haunting of Tram Car 015! It was a quick evening's read that was very rich in setting, diversity and had a good plot. I can't wait to find out if there will be sequels, or at least other books set in this amazing world! If you want to find out what I loved about it, here‘s my full review: http://bit.ly/2tXrMCL

So so good. The world building is well done. The reader is immersed into the world immediately. The story is fun. You can feel the noise, the heat of Cairo. The partnership between the seasoned detective and the recruit is a classic trope but both characters are unique. The secondary characters have layers, the supernatural elements are beautifully set.

I loved it. I am so hoping there will be more.

This was so much fun! Wonderful world-building (an alternate history set in a never colonized, technologically advanced Egypt), a fun mystery and interesting characters. Hoping that Clark writes more stories set in this world!
