What a great read for chilly weather! This may be the strongest debut novel I‘ve laid my hands on. Blackåsen is a small, remote village hiding some big, filthy skeletons that you‘re most definitely going to want to dig up. My whole review is up on GoodReads if you‘re interested! :)

I‘ve never reread a book, except for the Harry Potter series. I plan on reading it for a third time next year :)

1) My name is Mae, and one of my absolute favourite books as a kid was Dr. Seuss‘s Daisy-Head Mayzie. It‘s my username on all my bookish accounts (minus IG).

2) I‘m really thankful for my family‘s love and resilience in times of struggle. We lost our aunt today, and to see us hold each other up through loss is something I cherish.

This book is NOTHING like I thought it would be... It‘s the kind of horrifying and disturbing you can‘t look away from. I‘m a third of the way through now and I love that I have NO idea what is going to happen.

Did any of you read this? What were your thoughts?

readordierachel I LOVED this one. Sucked me in and didn't let go 👍🏼 13mo

Reggie I really like Tremblay‘s writing. Like when he writes that Wen has her feet in the shape of a scythe and is using them to bring up grasshoppers from the yard. And then he proceeded to rip my insides out. I loved this book. Hope you like it too! 13mo

This might be the most underrated book of 2020! A truly brilliant and hilarious fairytale.

A charismatic chimneysweep thief, living in a magical world, finds himself on the heist of his life. Picture.. Hunger Games meets Monty Python.

You now have no idea what awaits you. So just get yourself a copy now, before I slip up and give something away!

#BOOKSPINBINGO #BOOKSPIN #DOUBLESPIN

I made my bingo board thanks to @TheAromaofBooks and here are my reads for November (+ tagged book)! This would give me one bingo row.

I‘m hoping I‘ll be able to squeeze in another one, though.. The Likeness has been whispering to me from the corner of my bookshelf— in a non-creepy, very enticing sort of way.

Have you read any of these? :)

suvata I read the top two and I really enjoyed both of them, especially Daisy Jones. 13mo

Participating in my first ever #bookspin / #doublespin / #bookbingo, hosted by @TheAromaofBooks !

Here are my 20! Technically there are a few ARCs in here I have to read regardless— including the book I tagged— but I‘m hoping these games will help me get excited about getting through my overflowing shelves. :)

I wanna know: What‘s one book that has been sitting on your shelf the longest? #tbrpossibility #bookban

MsMelissa I‘ve had The Far Pavillions by M.M. Kaye sitting on my TBR since 1999. I‘ve moved three times since buying it, and the book has moved with me, but I still have yet to read it 😬 13mo
MsMelissa PS - You have some great books on your bingo card! 13mo

I am just loving these games 🖤

1) We didn‘t get a single kid last year.. So we‘re not expecting any again. Usually we still decorate, have spooky music playing, but the weather has been weird so we haven‘t even done that! Somebody hit the cancel button on 2020 already. 😫

2) I do on my phone. I‘m using the new iOS 14 update and remade my whole screen in a Halloween theme. 🖤🎃

I read this book ages ago, and I still think about it from time to time. Enthusiasm was all Chanel had in the beginning; surrounded by hunger and poverty. From nothing she rose to become a household name, a societal upgrade that taught her many things about the truth behind fame and riches. If you‘re remotely interested in fashion or the WWII era, I highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was fully immersed in the goings-on of the Rosebud Res, and wasn‘t ready to leave. Wanbli‘s writing had me fear the worst, while still rooting for redemption.

It‘s a story about inner conflict, corruption, addiction, systemic racism, and the strength it takes to heal yourself and your loved ones amidst brokenness. I was enamoured with the characters, especially hippie Tommy + his weird stories 😂 Really hope this becomes a series.

thrillerswithgems This is like asking “what‘s your favorite book?” It‘s so hard to pin point just one...but let me see, Brida from Brida from Paulo Coelho. It‘s not a thriller rather very poetic book. 13mo

#throwback to a few months ago, when my front lawn was my haven and the sun was my God. 😭 💔 I had a killer year for books so far, including this one that I read at the end of the summer! An incredible blend of scientific and gothic thrills. This book had my favourite trope: a massive spooky mansion in an isolated village. Do you have a story trope you never tire of?

#thrillers #fivestars

LiteraryinLawrence I think mine is similar: locked room mysteries like Agatha Christie! When you know it has to be one of these like 5 people, but you don‘t know who! 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @LiteraryinLititz Omigosh yeesssss!!! Locked room whodunnits are the best! 13mo

CURRENTLY READING 📖 This is my first ever full-length novel on an eReader. Squeee! 👏🏻 So far I‘m quite attached to the characters. Are you an eBook or a paperback kind of reader?

BookDragonNotWorm I still love the smell of paper books but I only read e-books now so I can read in the dark, highlight passages without defacing a page, bring 100 books with me in the palm of my hand....😂 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @BookDragonNotWorm It is SO EASY, right?! But yes, there is nothing quite like the smell and feel of paper. But portability, I mean, wow. I‘m amazed at how light and simple my eReader is! 13mo

LeahBergen Paper books all the way for me! 😆😆 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @LeahBergen Haha it isn‘t surprising that physical books are winning this debate 😂 13mo
Texreader Both! I generally have one IRL (in real life) book, one ebook, and one audiobook going at the same time. 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @Texreader That‘s impressive! Do you have specific genres you read in each format? Or do you go about it less methodically? 13mo
Texreader This year I‘ve been very methodical because I I‘m doing so many challenges and readathons on Litsy. It‘s a blast! My fave go-to genre is historical fiction. So I go with that generally for all formats but these challenges really force you to read new genres, which mostly can be fun but sometimes really really bad when you find a style or author you really don‘t like. 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @Texreader What a great way to step out of your comfort zone! Do you have any Litsy challenges to recommend? Something I could start for next month, maybe? Dunno how soon they bring the challenges out for the upcoming month. 🤔🤔 13mo
Smarkies @daisyheadmaesie I don't do many challenges on litsy but this year I am doing the #Booked2020 one which is a whole lot of fun because it is making me read out of my wheelhouse. I also am doing the #nonfiction2020 one. I think alot of people are taking part in the screamathon one now. Just keep an eye out for hashtags. Something always comes up. 😂😂 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @Smarkies Ohh I will check those out! I have so many nonfictions that need reading, maybe I‘ll dedicate Dec to those! :) 13mo
Smarkies @daisyheadmaesie there also may be a nonfiction November challenge coming up.... There was one last year that was quite fun. 13mo
Smarkies @daisyheadmaesie check out the hashtag #nfn2020 for this year's one. 13mo
daisyheadmaesie @Smarkies Wicked! Thanks! 13mo
LiteraryinLawrence I got my first ereader earlier in the pandemic. It was when the library was still physically closed but you could borrow ebooks, and the Kindle was SO great because I had access to library books again. Now that our library is open to borrow physical books again, I‘d prefer to read a paperback, but I still read ebooks too. 13mo

Absolutely devoured this book! A sister‘s love; there‘s nothing fiercer. You know the saying, I‘d help you hide the body.. Would you really do it to protect her?

Korede‘s younger sister Ayoola has got it all, adored by all who cross her path. Her biggest flaw is.. well, she‘s a serial killer. And how Korede deals with it will stay with you for a long time. I loved the pace! The setting was realistic, the characters were dysfunctional perfection.
