Last minute (late) posting to show the last books Archibald and I were able to finish for #Scarathon2021 and #TeamHendrix!

My fave is probably The Book of Yōkai- super informative and the latter half was a codex of yōkai for all over, known and unknown.

Had me in the first half, and there are flecks of the Good that permeate the second.
But like a lot of modern and/or performance art, it lost me. And like modern and/or performance art- it has it‘s audience, so as long as you‘re good with some grit and blood and dog hair give it a shot.

This was a great listen... most of the time. I loved the reader for Ziggy, but not so much for the secondary narrator (who is a minor spoiler if named so hey, mystery!). Overall an interesting premise and a great character study for all 52 saints and their worshipers and their promised land.

Holy shit- what a perfectly crafted story. I loved it. The schlocky 80‘s esque section titles. The interwoven plot (seriously nothing goes to waste here). The antagonist. The foreshadowing. The culture in every but past and present. The ending! I usually am so let down but the ending was perfect!

Please read this. It is worthy of every bit of praise.

I didn‘t gel with this book, but this was my fault as I didn‘t look into the age range. It‘s YA, and while I don‘t particularly love it, I think it‘s important for other people to read. I would like it to be a replacement for the well tread school novels.

I think it would have served me better growing up, letting me know in a practical way that I‘m not the be all end all of things, good or bad.

I am... not smart enough for this book lol.

I loved the semi stream of consciousness writing. I liked how the characters interacted. I liked the glimpses outside the MC‘s and the world at large.

At the same time, it felt to me like written performance art, and I am not the audiance for that. It is good! It‘s just not for me.

The ending was less like an answer and like an obligation, and TBH that... fits the story.

My first Hendrix book and a light b-movie-esque read that had a touching end. I had tried to fit it in for the end of Scarathon 2020 but, alas, I am too late.

Not bad though! If you like 80‘s aesthetic and some grody body horror and don‘t mind the good and bad of both tropes, give it a shot.
