where did you get a good chunk of this information

phantomx @lovebi It's been a long time since I've read Battle Royale. Still one of my top reads, and I love how certain details present each character through the story. I can't remember if the translator Yuji Oniki had presented the same English translation in that sentence. Catholic churches have been around for a very long time in Japan. I'm intrigued to compare these translations. 2y
lovebi @phantomx I haven't read Oniki's translation yet, but I agree it'd def be interesting to compare how both translators approached the same passage! One thing I can say about Collins's work is that I am *losing* it at the sentence from the screenshot he translated where Yumiko ended her super detailed mental write-up on Shuya with "(She was confident hers was more comprehensive than Yukiko's.) (Mostly confident.)" Like, oh honey...... 2y
phantomx @lovebi The translation does seem strange, like it was going full throttle into the detail on Shuya, and then the translation places brakes on the pace. Oniki's translation shows Shuya that he's a very talented guitarist, out-going, and a very likeable character. From this part, Collin's translation makes Shuya seem jumbled, less of an investigative profile on Shuya--I can see as to why its frustrating. 2y
