Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - The Original Screenplay
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - The Original Screenplay | J.K. Rowling
At the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald was captured in New York with the help of Newt Scamander. But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escapes custody and sets about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore enlists Newt, his former Hogwarts student, who agrees to help once again, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world. This second original screenplay from J.K. Rowling, illustrated with stunning line art from MinaLima, expands on earlier events that helped shaped the wizarding world, with some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of both the books and films.

Definitely an amazing book! I love how it picks up right where Fantastic Beasts left off. J.K. Rowling is writing another great series, and I can‘t wait for the next movie/screenplay to come out!

“There‘s a story in my family that a Phoenix will come to any Dumbledore who is in desperate need. They say my great-great-grandfather had one, but that it took flight when he died, never to return.”__Albus Dumbledore This explains why Fawkes left when Dumbledore died. I love foreshadowing.

I've ordered this but won't have it for a couple days. Meanwhile I've just heard some VERY distressing things about this screenplay/ movie and I'm kind of angry. I feel like one reveal in particular completely ruins one of the best book series ever.

Ok I just reread that and it sounds kinda dramatic but... I'm feeling dramatic right now!

wordzie 3mo
DivineDiana Drama is allowed! 😉 3mo
wanderinglynn I watched the movie on my flight back from DC. May I ask what you heard that was distressing? 3mo
See All 11 Comments
bookandbedandtea @wanderinglynn the reveal of Creedence's identity/ real family. If that turns out to be true, rather than a lie from Grindelwald, I won't be able to take it! 3mo
wanderinglynn Ah. Yes, I wondered about that when Grindelwald revealed it. Considering how manipulating Grindelwald is, I guess we‘ll see if that turns out to be true or not. 3mo
RainyDayReading I haven‘t seen the movie but I‘ve heard enough about what happens to be worried. I don‘t know how the rest of the series is going to go with what they did with this one...especially towards the end. 3mo
bookandbedandtea @wanderinglynn REALLY hoping G is lying. 🤞 3mo
bookandbedandtea @RainyDayReading EXACTLY my concern! I feel like G has to be lying about that. Otherwise they completely upend the facts we've already learned about that family. And don't get me started on McGonagall teaching at the school before she was born, given the timeline of the original books. 😠 3mo
RainyDayReading @bookandbedandtea Oh I know!!! It‘s like they looked at the timeline and then threw it completely out the window! I wouldn‘t put it past G to be lying...but...I also wouldn‘t put it past the writer‘s to make it true. I‘m not sure I like what they‘re doing to Queenie‘s storyline either. It just makes me extremely hesitant going into the rest of the movies. 3mo
bookandbedandtea @RainyDayReading Yes! That's my fear, that TPTB don't care about previously established facts. That's they're only concerned about the story they're telling. I don't at alll like what I've heard of Queenie's story either. It seems completely opposite of who the character was when we met her in the first movie. 3mo

#BookMail Pt1 I have a few books that have trickled in over the past week or so, preorders mostly & even a few signed! This one is the screenplay of the new Fantastic Beasts movie, which is getting very mixed reviews I must say. I really need to get out of the house and go see this, maybe the drive-in would be easier?🎥🚗🎫 Added to my Potter collection(which is OTT enough to be taking up two shelves with more space needed!)

BookishMarginalia We have a whole Harry Potter bookcase that is overflowing! And I really liked the book and movie — it‘s just that it‘s an installment, so it‘s a lot about setting up and developing (and showing the insidious rise of fascism). (edited) 7mo

Saw this the day after Thanksgiving. I love Newt/Eddie Redmayne and all the magical creatures, hell I even love Jacob. But for the love does it UNDERMINE THE EXISITING CANON! i read an article that wonders how can one question JK or George Lucas...and i think fans have the right. Because for us we really care, it's not just about making money. 😫

TrishB Exactly! I‘ve decided not to watch because I‘ve,sadly, come to the conclusion it is just money making. 7mo
Birdsong28 @TrishB I totally agree with you as I believe that the books were just extras to compliment the series but the films are just ridiculous. I haven't even read the cursed child as I don't recognize it as part of the Harry Potter canon #unpopularopinion 7mo

I suspect this will only be appreciated by true Potterheads like myself, and if oblivious muggles will start with Fantastic Beasts before the Harry Potter series, I don‘t think it‘ll be a hit. I‘m also presently ignoring the backlash on the alleged “Accio Niffler” and McGonagall timeline errors and keeping my final say until I‘m done with the whole FB run. “Pick” for now because the first and second instalments together has been a nail-biter.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I wondered that when I first saw that look when he visited a young Tom Riddle 7mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai I loved the movie. However, this is my biggest complaint. There were moments where the aesthetic choices that were made felt...off. Or at least...off from what we were accustomed to the Wizarding world feeling like that was presented to us from the original series. 7mo

This new series will never mean or be what the originals are for me...but I don't need it to be.

I am confused on some parts of this new one...and the aesthetic, or the look, sometimes felt weird, but overall, I found it was dark, thoughtful, and with just enough wimsy to make it all feel...Wizarding. 👌

Saw this today, mostly out of curiosity. 🎞 The beasts themselves were fantastic...not quite sure what to make of the rest of the movie. 🤔

Seekingtardis We just saw it. Over all I like it but I‘m still like (-_-) 7mo
alysonwrites I still like Newt and all his beasties are amazing, and it‘s cool to see Jude Law as Dumbledore. But there‘s a lot of info-dumping and some retconning that kinda makes me feel bewildered. Not all bad, just some major head-scratching...I‘m in this series for the long haul though, so hoping it gets better with the next movie. But I won‘t lie, it‘s worth the watch just to enter the Wizarding World again for a while...🧙‍♀️🧙‍♂️ 7mo
BooknerdsLife Same! Have mixed feeling about this one and still not sure how I feel about that "plot twist"at the end ... But overall love everyone in the movie & got emotional just being back in this magical world again! @alysonwrites 7mo
alysonwrites @BooknerdsLife Yep that‘s one heck of a plot twist, which at the very least is a great way to hook fans for the next movie! I think I am more interested in character development rather than plot twists or backstory reveals. But there are so many characters, twists, and reveals in this movie that there‘s just not room for much character development. That‘s probably why, although I enjoyed some aspects of the movie, I feel it‘s lacking something. 7mo

Schnoebs @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I actually really liked it. She looked like she was really young. Maybe mid 20s and if you think about it, that happened in the 1910s if the think they are now in the 1920s and Harry Potter is 1990s. That makes her coming on 100 or so with Albus being 150. The age different seems relatively logical if you work it out lol 7mo
