Alice Isn't Dead
Alice Isn't Dead: A Novel | Joseph Fink
From the New York Times bestselling co-author of It Devours! and Welcome to Night Vale comes a fast-paced thriller about a truck driver searching across America for the wife she had long assumed to be dead. “This is not a story. It’s a road trip.” Keisha Lewis lived a quiet life with her wife, Alice, until the day that Alice disappeared. After months of searching, presuming she was dead, Keisha held a funeral, mourned, and gradually tried to get on with her life. But that was before Keisha started to see her wife, again and again, in the background of news reports from all over America. Alice isn’t dead, and she is showing up at every major tragedy and accident in the country. Following a line of clues, Keisha takes a job with a trucking company, Bay and Creek Transportation, and begins searching for Alice. She eventually stumbles on an otherworldly conflict being waged in the quiet corners of our nation’s highway system—uncovering a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman. Why did Alice disappear? What does she have to do with this secret war between inhuman killers? Why did the chicken cross the road? These questions, and many more will be answered in Alice Isn’t Dead.

I ADORE Welcome to Nightvale, so I was sure this would be up my alley and I was right. Keisha‘s wife, Alice, is presumed dead but Keisha sees her popping up in the background on the news all over the country. She becomes a long-distance truck driver to seek out her wife and the truth...which is so SO much stranger and more complicated than she was prepared for. I love Fink‘s wit, dark humor, and realistic characters. (Image from tumblr)

Patchshank I loved the podcast. I haven't read the book yet, but I plan to. I also want to read the two Night Vale novels. 1mo

AshleyHoss820 @Patchshank I haven‘t listened to the podcast yet but I‘ve heard it is different from the book! I‘ll have to check it out and see! I own the first Welcome to Nightvale novel but I‘m scared to read it because I want to love it so bad! 😂 After reading this, though, I know I will. Might be time to break it out! 😄 1mo

This isn't a novel, it's a road trip. A long, winding, anxiety-fueled road trip. I'm interested in seeing where it ends. 🚚

Ok, I finished this and I have lots of thoughts that I will get to eventually. Or not. Whatever. My question is...is the podcast different enough to be worth listening to? I'm a passionate WTNV fan and I need another podcast to listen to....especially a creepy one. I love creepy podcasts.
Here is the Fuzz, thoughtfully looking out the window and wondering...what's it all about?

I just devoured this in 24 hours. It‘s a quick read but not light. Fink won me over with “Welcome to Nightvale” and continues to be a thoughtful, creative, fantastical storyteller. He combines social commentary with affirmation without losing plot or momentum. I loved this book.

Book chosen in one of my book clubs. It is about good, bad and neutral aliens? Really? Such a bad story, it didn't make any sense to me and that ending😱terrible! I don't know what else to say1.5/2⭐️

mabell I don‘t think I‘ve ever seen you pan anything! Must have been very bad indeed! 😆 5mo
Gissy @mabell It was bad. I didn't know what was going on here. I couldn't go to the interview with the author but even what I heard the author apparently said was silly to me: three groups of aliens representing the good/bad and neutral people in the world!?what? At the beginning it seemed was going to be interesting, well grossly interesting because how these "things" killed people was so graphic and terrible. Then the story didn't make any sense. 5mo
mabell Yikes. Definitely sounds like something that wouldn‘t interest me at all! 5mo

IndyHannaJones I take it you aren't a fan of Welcome to Nightvale... 4mo
Gissy @IndyHannaJones Maybe😳It started so good but then I was lost. But I have to confess, this is not my genre, not now, I could say. But I'm always open and receptive to try again. However, this book is already in a new home were it will be appreciated more than in my home☺️ 4mo
IndyHannaJones @Gissy well, I just ask because their storytelling style is VERY unique and if you're not used to it then it can seem very, very bizarre. 4mo

"It wasn't only Alice who died. Each death leads to smaller, invisible deaths inside the hearts of those left behind."

Yeah, ok, I'm addicted to this book already. I'm a good quarter or so through it and it's quirky, relatable, with a bit of thriller-mystery-horror vibe going on.

I did NOT realize that this was originally a podcast but hey, I can't wait to listen to them when this book is over!

Mystery and thrill were great! I loved the cast of characters and realistic dialogue. I fell in love with Keisha and Sylvia. There are flaws in pacing and execution, but overall I thought it was a pretty fun read.

Pretty happy with my reading progress in the first six days of the new year. Picked up the tagged book and audiobook at the library today. It‘s my preferred way of experiencing a book. Realized I hadn‘t put My GoodReads goal in after I took the picture. Going for 80 again.

Keisha and Alice‘s relationship was the best-written part of this story. The overall horror plot just doesn‘t come across on the page as strongly as it does on the podcast, unfortunately. On to my daily yoga now!

If you like the weirdness and general batshit storylines from Welcome to the Night Vale, then you will probably dig this book by the creator of said craziness. Keisha's wife goes missing, presumed dead, and so Keisha travels the highways of America as a trucker, searching for answers, coming up against monsters, crimes, government conspiracies, haunted service stations and an age old darkness...

I was enjoying the first part and now this second part is getting pretty wacky and I‘ve disconnected with what‘s going on. I‘ll stick through it cause it has to have a good ending, right?

3 seasons of an amazing podcast in one okay book. It lacked some of weirdness that I loved about the show. If you‘ve never listened to the show I would recommend reading the book first.

Why did the chicken cross the road?🐔
🛣
Because on one side was everything she had ever known and on the other side was a future, maybe,
and even though she was afraid to leave everything she had ever known, she also wanted a future, maybe,
and so hesitating, and then not, and then moving quickly, running, sprinting, even, desperate, she crossed, and found a future, maybe,
leaving behind everything she had ever known.

I'm interested in seeing how this would translate into a book. Would it be a similar theme like Sadie by Courtney Summers with the alternating blog and main character chapters? Either way this podcast has been my main focus with failed attempt to read during down time lol.
