While I have some reservations about the author, the cultural attitude towards minorities in the 1940s (the decade in which this book was written), and what happens in the book, the story itself was interesting and heartbreaking. It moved along beautifully and captivated my attention. I‘ve had a hard time focusing in reading lately, but I sat down with this book for substantial chunks of time. #pridemonth 🏳️‍🌈

I love reading anything RuPaul puts out. This being a first book, it‘s not as polished as her others, but it was enjoyable seeing the progression and creation of RuPaul. Her struggles, successes and failures made her the fierce queen she is today! A fun and amazing read.

I‘ve finally realized L.A. Witt‘s books grab me hard because she‘s painfully good at escalating emotion. Her characters go from, “Hey, you‘re hot; let‘s bang” to, “Wow, you‘re super fun to be around” to, “OMG I LOVE YOU” at more or less the same pace the reader comes to feel all those things about the book.

That‘s the fancy way of putting it. What I MEAN is, her books are super hot and full of people being cute/sexy together and OMG I LOVE THEM.

The Swimming-Pool Library | Alan Hollinghurst

The entire story is set in London and its calling William Beckwith's name! #londoncalling #wanderingjune @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB

Cindy, if you enjoy Sparshalt Affair I can recommend this one!

The story is as follows:
The Swimming-Pool Library is an enthralling, darkly erotic novel of homosexuality before the scourge of AIDS; an elegy, possessed of chilling clarity, for ways of life that can no longer be lived with impunity. ⬇️

jenniferw88 It focuses on the friendship of two men: William Beckwith, a young gay aristocrat who leads a life of privilege and promiscuity, and the elderly Lord Nantwich, an old Africa hand, searching for someone to write his biography and inherit his traditions. 1w
BarbaraBB I really enjoyed this one. Almost as much as 1w

This is the first time in years that I finished a book in one sitting (& of course stayed up way too late). The emotions & anxieties Ariel feels because of his deep-seated need to succeed are SO relatable. It put me right back into my HS mindset where I stressed about getting good grades, to get into a great school...
The LGBTQ relationship in here was also so swoon-worthy! And powerful friendships. Plus so much diversity seamlessly interwoven.

I‘ve almost regained my appetite after that awful cold, but now I‘ve got a cracked lip that makes my usual spicy diet AWKWARD. I didn‘t have the energy to think of and cook a non-spicy breakfast option, so thank goodness for Clif bars.

I‘m also really glad I finally got to start this book. I‘ve wanted to for DAYS, but painting and writing have majorly cut into my with-eyeballs reading time. I hope I can binge it a bit later today.

BookishTrish Glad you‘re feeling better! 2w

You know when you‘re just looking for a book to make your heart flutter, your smile hurt, and your laugh shake the walls? This is that book. This is a second read for me and I love it. Travis and Craig meet in high school, fall in love but drift apart during college. Twenty years later, Travis realizes his life‘s missing piece is Craig, and begins tracking him down in the hopes of a rekindling of their past feelings. Shenanigans abound.

Damn. Powerful writing, a series of brutal truths and devastating happenings. This is not a pretty story, but the realities of homophobia, of anti-queer violence, of addiction and sobriety, are not pretty. This is, however, a hopeful book. It made me cry silent tears into my dinner, and I had to stop reading a couple of times because the author gets it, and that hurts my heart, that another person has had to deal with relationship trauma. Cont 👇

bookishkris This book, these characters (especially Hiro) are going to be with me a long time, and I know I will revisit these books. And these are a must read if you or someone you love has battled addiction, relationship violence/abuse, mental illness, or homophobic violence. 2w
