Something in the Water
Something in the Water: A Novel | Catherine Steadman
A shocking discovery on a honeymoon in paradise changes the lives of a picture-perfect couple in this taut psychological thriller debut--for readers of Ruth Ware, Paula Hawkins, and Shari Lapena. Erin and Mark seem to have it all: he's a successful banker, she's a documentary filmmaker on the brink of a professional breakthrough; they're young and in love, about to embark on their dream honeymoon to Bora Bora. But when, after a blissful day of scuba diving, they discover a mysterious bag filled with incalculable riches, their subsequent choices trigger a sequence of events that will change their lives--and their marriage--forever.

Something in the Water was a bit slow moving at first and finished with a few too many loose ends for my liking, but it was an easy (if predictable) read that helped me unwind after stressful days.

It became the 700th book that I‘ve marked as read on Goodreads though, so that‘s exciting! 🎉

I‘m giving this a so-so because it took me a long time to get into this one. Like half the book. Really it took awhile for me to connect with the characters, but the ending was great!

The book was so-so - predictable and sometimes too unbelievable, but still I really enjoyed it. The narration made all the difference and kept me engaged until the end.

jlabombard10315 I just finished listening to this as well, and I completely agree! The narration was spot on. The story was a little farfetched, and Erin drove me a little nuts. But I was definitely intrigued enough to get to the end, and ultimately give it a thumbs up. 👍 2mo

I didn‘t guess the ending, but was disappointed. There was a lot left open; a lot of questions left unanswered. I don‘t *need* an author to lay it all out for me with neatly tied bows, but it felt all over the place. Some characters/story lines felt unnecessary. Not as “thrilling” as I anticipated...🤷🏻‍♀️

Day 17 - #ThoughtYouWouldLikeItButDidnt #GratefulReads #SomethingInTheWater #CatherineSteadman

I found this book to be somewhat predictable. Even the plot was a bit unbelievable. The title is the best part of the book because it creates an interest but I was very disappointed when it wasn't something that would be exciting like a body or something you would expect from a thriller. I guess I should stop there and say that the book was not for me.

I couldn‘t put it down! The storyline is familiar. But the author did fantastic job storytelling and navigating you thru the thrilling twists. The writing is clever, daring, and gripping. And it‘s ended like a good movie. You know, the kind that ends with an open ending and provokes questions...the kind that leaves traces and makes you wonder...what was actually going on with him, and what‘s next for her. #somethinginthewater

This book was just ok to me. I thought it would be a better “beach read” than it turned out to be. It started out very slowly to me and I kept hoping it would get better. It did get better and there were several twists and turns that kept me involved. I really didn‘t see the end coming like it did so it ended up good but I have read other books that were much better this summer.

This was July's pick for our book club. Really good story. It's a about a recently married couple that accidently finds a black bag full of money and other things. From there, it just gets crazier and crazier. You don't know who to trust or believe. The characters were great and I had to keep reading to see what happened next! Ending was great and not expected (yes I was shocked). 4 stars.

2019 Book 28: I stayed up waaaaaaay too late trying to finish this last night. 3 am. I never do that, but just could not stop reading. Very interesting story with cool settings like Bora Bora and London. I really enjoyed the twist ending although I did guess that might be the case. Still a great read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐⭐ This book is considered a psychological thriller. I guess, I'm not seeing it. Manipulation? Yes. But a psychological THRILLER? Around page 150/339 I decided I was not interested in the book. But I had invested in it and wanted to know how it turned out. None of the characters were likeable. Page 300ish-337ish were amazing. That ending made reading the book worth it. #14BookChallenge #Book5of14

Most intriguingly, SOMETHING IN THE WATER starts at the end. Erin is digging a grave and she doesn‘t have much time. She googled the appropriate depth, because she wants to do it just right. She doesn‘t want the body to be found. Erins‘s efforts definitely grabbed my attention. Who is she burying in that grave? We have to know more... https://www.bluestockingreviews.com/blog/something-in-the-water

I spent much of this book wondering if Erin was an idiot or a genius and shaking my head over nearly every choice she made. Despite that I couldn't stop reading and I remained eager to find out what led to the events in the first chapter. It kept me entertained so thumbs up!

I really liked this debut, I‘ve seen a fair amount of mixed reviews but for me ur was a solid 3 1/2 stars very close to 4. I was a bit slow in the beginning but once it got going, I couldn‘t stop listening. And I loved the ending, someone got what the deserved! I debated between pick and so-so for this one. The plot was genuinely intriguing and I enjoyed that Erin is just your average woman thrust into an unlikely scenario. Her choices throughout the novel shock me - this woman either has guts of steel or she is incredibly stupid. I feel there is a fine line between those two. All in all, great story with some unsuspecting characters. Worth a read!

Hiding the bag in their hotel room, they have to decide what to do….can they keep it secret? Can they even trust each other?

I read this in a couple of days as it just drew me in and wouldn‘t let go…Catherine Steadman has blended true facts, current affairs and a really believable thriller into one. Well worth a read
