Warbreaker | Brandon Sanderson
After bursting onto the fantasy scene with his acclaimed debut novel, Elantris, and following up with his blockbuster Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson proves again that he is today's leading master of what Tolkien called "secondary creation," the invention of whole worlds, complete with magics and myths all their own.Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago.Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can only be collected one unit at a time from individual people.By using breath and drawing upon the color in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery, and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.

I don‘t understand where November went. Seriously, it flew by. I guess it‘s time for a wrap up.

What did you read this month? Any new favorites?

I really loved Warbreaker. And I‘m super excited to finally close out that chunk of the Cosmere. Now it‘s time to move on to the Secret Projects.

What are you reading this month?

I‘m not completely ready to give up spooky season so I think Bag of Bones will be perfect.

And I wanted to finish the Cosmere this year and I‘ve yet to read Warbreaker.

So those are the main books on my tbr.

Im cautiously optimistic! We'll just see how this goes! 🤣😂

Infinite Jest I've been wanting to read for a long time, so it seems like a good time to use it for this challenge! I've also been wanting to read all of Hobb's books, starting with the Rainwilds series, so I'm including those as well. Finally, because next year is the year of Brandon Sanderson apparently, I'm going to try and read more of his Cosmere stories! 📚💕

RaeLovesToRead I've only just seen this, Becky! Sorry I didn't respond earlier! Good choices! When you finish one, tag me and I'll be sure to do you a post of Pickles looking suitably impressed 😉😁 2y

Did all the reading I could do for this month and thought while I have the time... To do my September #WrapUp

I'm a bit surprised at how much I accomplished, it didn't feel like I was reading much but my stats say differently.

Favourites:
💮 Sandman9: Kindly Ones
💮 My Lovely Wife
💮 Warbreaker

For October I'm aiming to read 5 books; all depending on my work load.

I love this so much! The magic in this story is so unique, and I love that it‘s a commodity anyone can use instead of something inherited genetically. And there are some awesome characters. I‘m very satisfied with the ending, but I hope Sanderson hurries up and writes a sequel!

BehindthePages I read this so long, all I remember is I loved the sword! 3y
Lauranahe The sword was so cool! Sanderson has said several times he‘s planning a sequel, called Nightblood. I hope he does it! 3y

I‘m forever changed with the amount of fantasy I want to read. This was a new level of fantasy and a different kind of story that I never knew was out there. I found it daunting at first by the size and volume of the book but it was worth it. Going on my favorites list. #newfavorite

December #BookSpin / September #doublespin done! @TheAromaofBooks

My first time reading Brandon Sanderson. I'm just a little late to the party lol. I enjoyed this, even though it took me forever to read (not entirely its fault, an awful lot of library holds came in). A good epic fantasy with a very interesting magic system.

TheAromaofBooks I still haven't read any Sanderson books, either! This one is on my TBR! 3y

RHYTHM OF WAR made me want to reread WARBREAKER. My library‘s got it on audio, so here I am, ready for some #audiocrafting!

Today I took the kinda boring, off-brand traveller‘s notebook that‘ll hold my 2021 reading journal and jazzed it up with a new cover. It‘s part of an Aimee Stewart bookshelf painting, taken from a calendar I had a couple years back.

Traci1 I'm working on a cross stitch of that piece. I'm about 35,000 of 282,000 stitches in, so I'll be done in no time. 😄 3y
xicanti @Traci1 oh my goodness! That‘s quite a time commitment, but it‘s gonna be gorgeous. 3y
Traci1 @xicanti it's what I do while I'm listening to audiobooks. Keeps my hands busy. I don't know if I'll ever finish it, but for me it's more that I enjoy the process than that I need the finished project, so that's ok. 3y

This was my first Brandon Sanderson and I really enjoyed this complex and interesting read. I loved the magic system, the political intrigue, and the characters. The only issue was that it left me wanting more! 4.5 out of 5 ⭐

cherinium Sanderson will do that to you! His imagination is fantastic, and the more you read, the more you want. At least, that's how I feel. I love that he has invested so much time and energy building his #cosmere. It is so much fun to find the little clues about how all of his worlds with their differing magic systems are part if something much bigger. There's so much to explore! 4y

This book was an excellent, exciting, fun ride. I truly enjoyed it from start to finish. The characters felt like real people and the world building felt totally original. The plot was unpredictable enough to surprise but not so much so that it didn‘t make sense. I‘m looking forward to reading more Sanderson novels!

Got my second shelf up! I‘m not sure if the painting‘ll stay or not. I mostly put it there because it weighs less than the books it displaced. New-style Lack shelving can hold 33lbs if properly anchored, but I bought this old-style one used and I‘m not sure what its limits are. Right now, it‘s got 15-16lbs of stuff on it. Robin Hobb is HEAVY.

tjwill I like the painting! 5y
xicanti @tjwill a friend painted it for me as a birthday present a few years back. It‘s got all sorts of cool little things hidden away in it, and it‘ll definitely end up hanging right above the shelf even if I don‘t leave it in its current position. Gotta keep it out on display! 5y

This one was a bit slower than the other books in Sanderson‘s Cosmere. The characters are great though and the world building is fantastic.

Bklover I‘ll have to try a Sanderson. They all are so loooooooooong! Which one would you start with? 5y
Corar I think Mistborn is a good place to start. It gives you a good taste of his world building, which I think is his strength . If you want a quick feel for his writing he does have some novellas like Snapshot or Legion, and some young adult series like Steelheart. 5y

I get Starbucks maybe once per year because it‘s so expensive. Today I decided to splash out and try the new tie dye frappuccino with part of my birthday winnings. It was tasty—but not $5.88 tasty.

I drank it while I took the measurements I need to get my new shelves up! Now I‘ve gotta go to the hardware store for washers so I can make sure this thing‘s as secure as possible. The shelf‘s going above my bed and I do NOT want books to fall on me.

xicanti Also, I tagged WARBREAKER because it‘s going on this particular shelf AND because the frappuccino reminded me of the book‘s BioChromatic magic. 5y

Very enjoyable, but my least favorite Sanderson book so far. Doesn‘t help that I‘m currently reading Words of Radiance. It can‘t compete with the Stormlight Archive. However, it does have some really great characters. I love Lightsong and all of his quips. The character development and transformation of the sisters is well done. Very unique magic system and world-building. I‘m loving the whole exploration of the Cosmere! Becoming a super fan!

Vivenna and Siri are sisters of quite opposing characters. They are both doing what they ought to do, but then it's time for a treaty to be fulfilled, and amidst the increasing possibilities of war, both of their lives are just tossed right into the middle of action and politics. Somehow there's also enough time for people to fall in love? The book is full of action, deceit, politics, corruption, and I don't know what to do with my life now.

Sanderson does not disappoint. While this may have been the slowest of his books that I gave read, it is beautifully written and every moment is enthralling. There is mystery and intrigue thay always wins my heart, as well as wonderful relationships and character development though the book. This is a great place to start if you're interested in starting Sanderson' s books.

My first Brandon Sanderson book. It took me a few tries to get started, but once I got past the first few chapters I was hooked. I needed to know what happened to Siri and Susebron. Vivenna grew on me in ways I never expected. By far one of my favourite books to date. It leaves me wanting more, not because I felt it was lacking, but because it was so intricately written. I could literally read a slice of@life book from this world and be satisfied.
