I just realized my “current reads” make me look all cultured, almost a throwback to my school days. But really, it‘s because I‘m in between fun reads and these are the ongoing and/or long-languishing books I can‘t seem to finish! 🤣 I started VF in September, I think, and DQ for the #PicklesChallenge in…July? I‘m 75% on the former and maybe 1/3 on the latter, and Middlemarch is chapter-a-day with #PemberLittens

Liz_M If you find the right edition/translation, Genji is fun! It is episodic, so lot of short chapters of Genji's hijinks with generally the same story arc. I compared the experience of reading it to watching all the episodes of Friends.

HoL is creepy and a stunning book -- innovative typography/graphic.

Infinite Jest is a lot. I loved it, but many cannot stomach the misogyny/depravity/esotericism 1y

RaeLovesToRead @Liz_M I've got the Penguin Deluxe version... it's mahoosive. I'm sure I'll love it once I get into it... it's the getting started that's the hardest part. If Infinite Jest is misogynistic it's most likely to annoy me 😐 Looking at Goodreads it has really divided opinion. 1y

batsy I thoroughly enjoyed The Tale of Genji when I did it as a buddy read with some Litsy pals some years back. House of Leaves and The Second Sex are the two I would like to get to soon! 1y

I finally pulled this off the shelf. It‘s been on the tbr pile longer than anything else (since high school—and since I‘m in my 50s…ashamed shuffling going on).
