Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch | Neil Gaiman
According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist . . ."

5/5 One of my absolute favorite books. Crawley is a demon, Aziraphale is an angel. They‘ve both been on earth, working for their bosses, for millennia. Over time, they became friends and settled into comfortable lives. That‘s all threatened when they find out the child who will bring about the end times is being born.

4.5 stars. This book is funny, thought-provoking on occasion, and a reliable read when I need a distraction, but drags a bit.

I am debating whether or not to just DNF this. I am just not feeling it, but 235 pages in is a lot to give up on.

I found that there was quite a lot of the book that was simply unnecessary and didn‘t contribute anything to the story and instead took away. (ie. the OTHER four horsemen of the apocalypse). Additionally, the passive racist comments and jests along with the odd sexualization of War throughout the novel left me cringing. (And not in a good way might I add). However, I did enjoy the overall plot, pacing, and characters. A very decent read overall!

1. Good Omens (tagged), Fear-Free Food by Nicola Jane Hobbs, Jim Trelease's Read-Aloud Handbook, A Deepness in the Sky by Vernon Vinge and Home From the Vinyl Cafe by Stuart McLean. Phew!

It is official,

The best book adaption to a show for 2019 was Good Omens according to Littens.

It's on Prime so if you are anti-Amazon like me I understand if you have not seen it.

Bookworm54 This has recently started showing on the BBC, and on occasion this has coincided with fox. So you might be lucky and find it elsewhere :) 3w

I watched the show before I read the book because a friend had a little viewing party. Obviously we all loved the show and she insisted I try the book which was a brilliant suggestion. The book definitely lives up to the hype. The writing is beautiful and clever and all the characters are so charming. It‘s also extremely rereadable which I love in a book.

I love the angels and demons thing, and this multi-perspective novel was great for that. I did think some of the plot points were a little unnecessary and didn't tie into the end, but it still had me captivated cover to cover!

This is my 100th book for the year. I‘m so excited by that because I‘ve never hit 100 before! Thanks to reading a few shorter books I expect 😂

This is a funny satire based around the Apocalypse. Bright and intelligent and razor sharp, but written in the kind of easy language usually aimed at a younger audience - plus it has loads of heart. I haven‘t read much Gaiman or any Pratchett but I suspect those are hallmarks of their craft. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ On my first attempt a couple of years ago, I bailed quickly. But after watching, and loving, the series with my husband, I wanted to try again. Aziraphale (angel) and Crowley (demon) should be enemies, but instead, are like an old married couple. I love them. This is a zany take on the apocalypse while being thematically interesting: free will, nature vs nurture, good vs evil, and in between. Wholly entertaining; FABULOUS on audio.

Scochrane26 I need to finish the series, but I love the book. 3mo

Firstly, God moves in extremely mysterious, not to say, circuitous ways. God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e., everybody.] to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won‘t tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

Some lovely extra pieces about the collaboration from both writers and some great pics in this series tie in edition.....
