We seem to have lost a lot of the complexities and subtleties of the story
I am NOT a fan of how the ending read, to me

Results? Worth the watch, but a separate story from the novel. Which is fine. If I wanted 1 to 1 the novel, I‘ll reread the book. #BookAdaptations

vonnie862 I just finished watching this and a weird way it reminded me of the Kenneth Branagh version. I do question some of the changes from the book, like Elizabeth's character, and I'm with you in regards to the ending. 4w

ChaoticMissAdventures I agree. Especially about the ending. I think Elizabeth could have been a bit truer to her character also. But for the father son relationship I think GDT got a bit personal with his own relationship with his father. I didn't realize until the day after I read this that Mia Goth played both Elizabeth and the mother, she is so good I didn't recognize her as the mother! 4w

ElizaMarie I got a little annoyed of what we dubbed “disney music“ when he was creating. It felt too childish at that point. 4w

Semi serious question. I‘ve been going through my books trying to get rid of some (none so far 😅) and I found my copy of Wicked I tried to read back in high school. Should I give it another go?

Soubhiville In my opinion, no. I read 2 of his books years ago and honestly don‘t like his writing style at all. The blurbs on back of his books sound so good, but I have ended up really not liking them. 6mo

rubyslippersreads I love the Wicked musical and The Wizard of Oz in general, and I did not like the Wicked novel. (edited) 6mo

BarbaraJean I vote no as well. I loved the musical and hated the book. I really liked the tagged book by the same author, which I‘d read years before, so I WANTED to like Wicked, but I did not. Go with your high school self‘s opinion!

BookBr Just to play devil‘s advocate, I LOVED the book and disliked the musical. I thought Maguire really created a solid vision of an Oz for adults, if that makes sense. Lots of weird fairy tale elements to love too. 6mo

My lovely, clever, marvelous #Littens . I recently started rewatching Bones. And I‘ve realized I haven‘t read any of the books that the show is based on.

Are they any good? Should I give them a try?

Ruthiella It‘s been ages since I read one. As I recall, they were pretty good. I think, however, the TV show is not an adaptation of the books but more loosely based on Kathy Reichs real life. 2y

julesG What the others said. The books are good, but it's definitely not about the TV serie's Tempe. I'd say the novels are the fictional/exaggerated story of Kathy's job. 2y

thebacklistbook According to an interview the TV series is about Kathy Reichs but she wasn't comfortable being directly depicted so they named the character after Tempe instead. The books are in my opinion good. As long as you don't go in expecting to recognize stuff from the show. 2y

Clare-Dragonfly Jeez. I am happy for Martha Wells but not thrilled with the idea of having a face for Murderbot… especially a white man‘s face. I think Murderbot‘s appearance should be extremely ambiguous in terms of gender and ethnicity. 2y
