Hey all, words of advice from Dad if you are in somewhere with temps below 20 F.

When outside: BREATH THROUGH YOUR NOSE!

The cold air can freeze and crack/shatter teeth.

He made the mistake once to gasp while on a rescue mission in Antarctica. 3 teeth had to be replaced when he left.

Hooked_on_books Interesting. Also: skip mascara. When it gets this cold, the mascara freezes then drips down your face when it rewarms. I learned that in college in frigid weather. 5y

GrilledCheeseSamurai Haha. It true! Tonight with windchill it's supposed to dip all the way to -51°C/-59°F. It's crazy dangerous weather right now. Scary I guess if you think about it. So. Friggen. Cold. Tell ya what thought... Lots of hot tea, blankets and a pile a books helps you forget about it. Until it's time to go to work in the morning. 🤪 5y

LibrarianRyan @AlaMich he was stationed there for a year (30 years ago). He was promised that if he spent a year in Antarctica he could have his choice of assignment next. The next “choice” sent us to Alaska. I don‘t know exactly what he did. But he did one rescue mission where they had to get scientists off a hill (I met the scientist years later in a lecture when my dads pic popped up in his slides) and one where try tried to save a snowcat from sinking. 5y

The recent news cycle though, casts the lyrics of a man trying to convince a woman to spend the night in a menacing light, and come across as tone deaf -- or worse -- about consent.

It's sounds rapey to us, as well it should, but 75 years ago, it was about sexual agency in a world when women have little of it. However, it's sounds very different to our ears, rightfully so. 5y
