Jane of Lantern Hill
Jane of Lantern Hill | L M Montgomery
14 posts | 17 read | 14 to read
Jane and her mother live in a gloomy old mansion, where their lives are ruled by her ovebearing grandmother. For most of her life Jane has believed that her father is dead. Then, one dull April morning, a letter comes. Not only is her father alive and well, but he wants Jane to spend the summer with him on Prince Edward Island. For a blissful summer she lives at her father's cottage on Lantern Hill, making friends, having adventures and discovering that life can be wonderful after all. And she dares to dream that there could be such a house where she, Mother and Father could live together without Grandmother's disapproval - a house that could be called home.

First time reading this sweet book. ❤️ I really liked the narrator for this specific edition but I was so disappointed in the editing of it. Too many repeated lines that should have been cut in editing.

Lots of pretty covers for this Montgomery book about #sweetjane.

(Another great song! Love the Cowboy Junkies and Margo Timmins' voice!)

Cinfhen You and @karenuk seem to like the same music 🎶 I‘m not familiar with a lot of these songs 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w
merelybookish @Cinfhen We are definitely music twins. When I saw her playlist, I was amazed. It could be one I made! 2w
Bkwurm So many great covers! Jane of Lantern Hill is one of the few LM Montgomery books I haven‘t read. I guess I better get reading! 2w

I‘ve been nursing a pressure headache all day, so it was a half day of work for me. After an afternoon nap (always seems to help with headaches), I‘m settled in with a cup of darjeeling tea with fresh lemon slices, and another delightful novel by one of my all time favourite authors, L. M. Montgomery. Anne will always be my kindred spirit, but Montgomery‘s lesser known heroines, such as Jane and Marigold have a special place in my heart as well.

HotCocoaReads Oh, I loved this one! 5mo
catebutler @HotCocoaReads I remember you reading this one, Jeana! I know you spoke highly of it. I‘m only a few chapters in, but it‘s such a delicious read. I love how Montgomery speaks to your soul. 5mo
Graywacke Headaches, yuck. That was my Tuesday evening. Hope you‘re feeling better. 5mo

catebutler @Graywacke They are definitely miserable! I‘m sorry to hear you dealt with one earlier this week. Mine has receded, so it‘s bearable, I‘m hoping it‘s fully gone by tomorrow. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼 5mo
LeahBergen I do hope you‘re a fan of Emily, as well. 😉 5mo
catebutler @LeahBergen Definitely! She and Anne are my top favourites. I always hear people say they like one or the other best. 5mo

rubyslippersreads I agree with @LeahBergen about Emily, but it‘s been ages since I‘ve read Jane. Might be time for a reread. 😊 5mo

catebutler @rubyslippersreads Yes, Emily is my second favourite after Anne. I hope you get to reread soon! 5mo

Oh my—I loved this story so much! How sweet that it revolves around the relationship between a girl and her dad. And the ending 😢 Could this be better than Anne of GG?

I enjoyed this! LM Montgomery‘s books are pretty simple, and the end was tied up with a nice bow, but I still enjoyed it, overall

Didn't think I was going to find #startswithj titles on my shelves, but the Janes came to the rescue! I recently replaced my old copy of Jane of Lantern Hill with this beauty - Jane Eyre is still on my list for replacement with a prettier copy. #anditsaugust

rubyslippersreads ❤️❤️❤️ both of these! 2y

Continuing in my quest to replace my old 90s editions of my L.M. Montgomery books with more attractive cover design. Sadly that 90s cover art is alive and well, and by far is the easiest to find. But I'm tracking down some pretty alternatives!

rubyslippersreads That new version is gorgeous! 😍😍😍 2y
BookNAround What a beautiful cover! I do admit to feeling nostalgia for the older one though as those are the covers I think I originally read (although that would make them 80s rather than 90s so maybe not). 2y
leslieisreading @BookNAround they could very well have been kicking around since the 80s! Just all my copies are from the 90s so I know they're at least that old. 😁 I have maybe a little bit of nostalgia, but my love for beautiful covers wins out. 2y

My favorite #canadianauthor! L.M Montgomery's stories are part of my favorite childhood memories. My lifelong dream is to visit Prince Edward's Island. #marchintoreading @RealLifeReading

Bookish.Heart She's one of mine too 😍 I visited PEI back in 2000 and it was so wonderful. You should definitely go if you can ever get the chance! (edited) 2y

Dammit, Book Depository! Read my lips: #bookbuyingban ! *sigh* *unsubscribe* (But you know I'll come crawling back because I love you so.)

The struggle is REAL, people. Time to go find some more excess stuff to donate!

Bradleygirl Jane of Lantern Hill is so good!!! 3y
TheLibrarian Trying to save up for a house this year so I'm trying to buy less books. So far it's not working!! 3y
saresmoore @TheLibrarian Same here! I realize we are only six days into January, but my strategy so far is working. Every time I feel the urge to buy something, I instead choose something to get rid of or an area of my house to simplify or something to polish up. I'm hopeful that having less stuff will help me appreciate what I do have even more. But books...I could never have too many books... 3y
saresmoore @Bradleygirl I still haven't read it! But I definitely want to get my hands on a library copy at least. 3y

When a little bibliotherapy is in order, L.M. Montgomery is always a good call. #electionday

christineandbooks I'm a long-time fan of Anne and Emily, but really haven't read much else by L.M. Montgomery... need to do something about that... lovely picture, great advice... 3y
