I bought this ebook on sale today. It‘s set in #Finland by an author from Helsinki. My dear wonderful sister-in-law is from Helsinki so I like to try to learn about where she‘s from.

For #travelthroughbooks I have visited Finland in this romance retelling of Hades and Persephone ⭐️⭐️⭐️ read. At times it truly engaged me (I‘m always down for a retelling as most of you know) but this was just too often a hit and a miss then engaging back to…hmmm let‘s skim a few pages. Does end in a cliffhanger and the next book will be out later this month. I doubt I‘ll bother. Free with the KU program #finland #romantsy #springread

I traveled to Finland for this amazing read. Set during WWII it takes place during the Winter War when Russia invaded Finland. This is both a romance (sweet) and historical fiction. Prepare yourself and maybe (totally do) have Kleenex handy. #travelthroughbooks #Finland #sisu #mayreading

3 ⭐ . Most of the book is spent on Aksel coming to terms with not being the best lead singer for his band, and that the rock and roll lifestyle he so wants, is harder to attain while keeping your musical identity then he ever thought possible. This book spent way too much time exploring Axel and his goals for the band. It is quite drawn out and boring, even though the setting is anything but.

I thought this book was an absolute delight, witty and entertaining and insightful. I read it in preparation for an upcoming trip to Scandinavia and since I haven't been there yet, I can't really speak to the accuracy of any of his observations. But I found it a very enjoyable overview of the Scandinavian countries.

It was entertaining but went on a little long. I wanted more dirt, but there are some interesting tidbits for sure. #book57of2022
