Needed a change of pace after all the romance novels I've been reading lately. 😅 So far, I find this one incredibly interesting.

“In the end, the courage of women can‘t be stamped out. And stories - the big ones, the true ones - can be caught but never killed.”
“That kind of silence isn‘t just wrong. It‘s dangerous… It sends a message to victims that it‘s not worth the anguish of coming forward. It sends a message about who we are as a society, what we‘ll overlook, who we‘ll ignore, who matters and who doesn‘t.”
My new bookshelf!!
Yes those bookends are a skull cut in half 💀 I'm OBSESSED. Just may need to paint the base black or gray to match.
Also thank you to @Avanders for the gold butterfly photo prints from the #BasicWitchSwap book exchange. 🦋
Excellent read, but saddening and infuriating that these things were allowed to happen for so long. it focuses primarily on Farrow‘s Weinstein investigation with the ending looking at a few other similar incidents.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A total page-turner. It's not exactly front-list, so everyone probably thinks they already know this full, bonkers, horrifying story, but they do not. I should caveat this by saying that I enjoy reading investigative works where the investigator is themselves a part of the narrative. Some people do not. But if you do, read this one.
Squeezing in some morning reading before my all-day shift at the library today. 📖
Anyone else watch this yet?
Breaking this story held great importance to our culture. To me, I got just as much information from reading the original story and the promotional interviews for this book, than from reading this book.

Everything reported in this book is so infuriating,it's hard to explain, just heart breaking.Farrow &a lot of reporters did an incredible job of bringing these stories out. They were uncomfortable to listen to but had to be told.He made it point to let the readers know how normal such actions were for the elites and how devastating they were for the women. It almost became hard to continue at time, can't even imagine what the women went through!!
My next audio book, this is almost 11 hours and I am already 7 hours through it, can't seem to stop!!!
If I didn‘t know this was nonfiction, I‘d think it was totally made up. The stuff Weinstein(and co.) to cover up his crimes is truly unbelievable.
Wow! This story about the outing of Weinstein is insane. I truly have never thought about how these stories come to be as they always seem to come out of the blue to us normal folk. I have much respect for all the brave people Involved. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My first pick for the #12BooksOf2020 I read this one way back in January, almost a year ago, but I‘m still thinking about it all these months later...and not just the case, but Ronan‘s personal journey with it, his partner, his co-workers, the letters that he was sent, the cover-up, and so much more. It‘s definitely one I will remember from 2020!
Both an important and compelling, albeit difficult read. CN: descriptions of rape, sexual assault, and abuse.
Farrow describes the excruciating process of reporting on Hollywood big fish Harvey Weinstein‘s horrifying history of sexual harassment, including how close the story came to being killed by the media in Weinstein‘s back pocket.
Read December 13-17
Rated 5/5 ⭐️
Book 55/60
"In the end, the courage of women can't be stamped out. And stories -- the big ones, the true ones -- can be caught by never killed."
Difficult but worthy read. Focus on the cover up(s) that kept men like Weinstein and Lauer in positions of such power, that allowed them to continue unchecked for years. And also on the brave women who repeatedly told their stories, and the people who listened.
TW: rape, sexual assault and harassment, gaslighting
This book makes me so angry. It is full of horrible people doing horrible things, and more horrible people letting it happen and covering it up. But every once in awhile there's a little snippet (usually involving Jonathan) that makes me unexpectedly laugh out loud. It's nice to break the tension.
"THE COURAGE OF WOMEN CAN'T BE STAMPED OUT"
This book was brilliant, the content was horrifying and heartbreaking but also empowering and courageous. My only complaint is Ronan Farrow doing voices and terrible accents throughout the reading of this really started to grind my gears, but i still rate it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lies, spies, and a conspiracy to protect predators #ronanfarrow
A necessary read!!!
Ronan Farrow recounts how he finally managed to publish his reportage on Harvey Weinstein.
This book reveals how sick our system is when a predator can buy off news outlets and politicians. It's a sickening read, it's a book that angers by its content, but it's an important read.
Definitely a must read.
I've seen this book pop up alot but never really got around to checking it out. Grabbed it off libby last night and so far very interesting.
Nonfiction that reads like a thriller. The Harvey Weinstein takedown is great, but the NBC coverup is even more fascinating.
I will never be able to wrap my head around the shit that goes on in Hollywood! This book follows Ronan as he struggles to publish an important article on sexual assault. It's actually crazy how much silence money can buy. The main focus is Harvey Weinstein but he does touch on other big Hollywood names as well.
I read She Said at the beginning of the year and I'd say these two books pair well. It's time these women get their stories told ❤
I genuinely have no idea why I thought this book was about a girl looking for her sisters murderer 😅 I'm really enjoying it tho and I'm happy Hollywood is finally being outed for being so horrible!! I know there's still such a long way to go but atleast steps are being taken..
We're going to continue enjoying this beautiful reading day 💕📖
Well this was a surprise- on audio read by Ronan Farrow - I am 50% in and it is a great story and very Watergate-like reporting from Farrow who has impressed me. Worthy of all the reporting prizes and just such an engaging and fast paced story- Highly recommend this on audio!
That moment when your real life collides with the book you started listening to yesterday. I wondered about the title of this book, but I guess I didn‘t really understand it until the term came up during my study session tonight. I skipped over this book when it came out, because I had already read She Said, but it‘s equally fascinating and has additional info. I can‘t decided if I like Farrow‘s accents on the audiobook or not🤔
Wow, an amazing account of the reporting behind especially the Weinstein and Lauer sexual assault and harassment incidents. Complete with spies tailing the reporter‘s boyfriend. To hear the whole story makes my heart ache again for the women who suffered, and makes me so proud of brave journalists, like Farrow and Remnick, who don‘t stop reporting when powerful men threaten them.
Both a thriller and a thorough investigation, this book is a terrifying account of what rich and powerful men can get away with, of a system that rewards their appalling behaviour and mutes indefinitely their victims. Yet for all the exposed Weinsteins and the Lauers of the world, there‘re so many others that continue to ruin lives unchecked. All my respect goes to the brave women that fought hard and to Mr. Farrow for giving them a voice.
My book haul today! Glad to see Target had a special edition of Ask Again, Yes. I really enjoyed the audio! Eager to read Catch and Kill. I‘ve bought a lot of books this month from Barnes & Noble because I miss browsing at my library but I‘ve been buying books I‘ve read that I know I like & nonfiction I don‘t want to wait from the library for and it always takes me longer to read nonfiction, so it‘s nice not to have the pressure of a due date.
Woot! My current #top6reads of 2020. Lots of 5 star reads this year but these 6 are the ones to beat for me. I‘m more baffled that I‘ve made it through 65 books so far this year —- way more than I‘ve ever accomplished by the end of December, let alone June! #BlameItOnLitsy, am I right?
Thanks for the tag @merelybookish — I‘m tagging anyone who wants to! ❤️ Tell me in the comments so I can check ur list and add to my TBR 😂

Listening to this book outside and totally entranced/horrified. Farrow reads it, and real audio clips are included from some of the damaging evidence.
This book both fascinated & repelled me in equal measure. I‘d read about & watched some of the reporting on Harvey Weinstein but this story had so much more filth going on. I‘m not naive, I know the justice system is skewed towards the wealthy & powerful, but the lengths these “men” went to to intimidate their accusers AND the reporters helping them is just disgusting. The #MeToo movement was amazing, but don‘t kid yourself. It‘s still happening.
After another productive day in my garden, I‘m chilling in my pergola, watching the sun go down and reading some more of this eye opening book. The lengths that these rich predators go to trying to keep everyone silent is like something from a Le Carre spy novel. As a survivor of abuse, it‘s making my skin crawl big time. Still, it‘s a Bloody good book!
My quiet Sunday in the garden. I repotted my Peace rose(her name is Nan), potted my new Eureka lemon tree & my Cumulus apple tree(the tree is a columned variety)then watered my other pots, I have blueberries on one bush and my freesias are popping up everywhere. The lawn looks shocking, it‘s almost all gone but we‘re planning on laying new topsoil then returfing. I can‘t wait to finish it! Oh, and I started a new book too💁🏻♀️ #gardensoflitsy
Read by Ronan Farrow and packed full of hard punches. If you‘ve read She Said, this is a great companion read. Be prepared to be angry, I didn‘t know much about the involvement NBC had with the Weinstein case, and how they kept the story under wraps for so long. Wow.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 this book was shocking and hard to read, but important! Really gripping. Highly recommend if you‘re interested in seeing the take down of a man who abused his power willingly for years.
Book 68. An exposé about the systemic sexual harassment and abuse and covering up of women by men in power in Hollywood, in news and reporting, and in politics. It's an important book, but it's dry, laborious, and confusing (reads like a 400+ page news article, interspersed with confusing chapters detailing the specific spywork done to silence this report). I prefer to spend my time reading fiction.
We all know that the story here is compelling, but I would submit that this is also an intellectually honest effort by a good writer who obviously revised it like hell and who is as hard on himself as on anyone else in the process. While not a camp follower, I found that this was worth my time.
How is it almost June? I can‘t wrap my head around 2020, but our nonfiction group on GR has had some awesome picks this year. Just look at our shelf!

OMG. Impeccable. Beyond reproach no matter what anyone (guilty) says. The evidence, corroboration, and contemporaneous documentation is all there.
This audiobook is SO hard to listen to. They just played the Gutierrez recording, and I feel so slimy and disgusted. WOW.
This was my set in Hollywood for #booked2020. Listened to it v slowly on audio over the last 2 months, started on Thjs frosty morning in March. It‘s compelling and Fsrrow pulls together multiple strands in a well researched way. This is as much his story as the women he worries about but I find it no worse for that.
although, a horrifying topic this was an amazing read.
#UnpopularOpinion This is a timely and relevant story but for some reason it left me cold. Harvey Weinstein & all the other sexual predators needed to be named and called to public attention & for that I applaud Ronan Farrow. However this book read like a Page Six gossip report where RF is the heroic reporter. I don‘t think his intentions were ever disingenuous but publishing this book about how hard he worked the story didn‘t impress me. 👇🏽
