Is it weird to love a book about plagues? Because I love this book about plagues! Wright‘s wit makes a harsh subject interesting and entertaining. 11/15 #Jumpstart2020 #WinterBookBingo - “Book with a Green cover”. #Nonfiction2020 - “About Health/Healthcare” #Booked2020 - “Book showing a hat or head covering” #LitsyAtoZ2020 #G

BarbaraTheBibliophage Great job—I need to listen to this one! 2d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great job, and @BarbaraTheBibliophage it does sound good! 2d
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Pretty sure it‘s in the current Audible sale. 2d
Cinfhen Cool!!! I‘ve already stacked this book 😉glad it was both fascinating and entertaining 🎉 2d

A happy selection for #nonfiction2020 😂
So I decided to join my mum in doing Veganuary and I quickly realised that I can‘t go back after January. I need to do some research but started with this which is about how to have conversations with people about veganism. Interesting read but some of the language was a bit intense. Picked as “something about a social movement”

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds great! 2d
Clare-Dragonfly That is wonderful! Good for you! 🙌🏻 2d
Cosyreader @Clare-Dragonfly thank you! 😊 1d

Late to join, but I‘m going to give #NonFiction2020 a go. Just aiming for a line on this one.

First square completed - the Salt Path for ‘something about housing‘ - it‘s actually about homelessness and everything that comes when the security of ‘your own four walls‘ is lost.

Cathythoughts Great idea ! Good luck. I‘m terrible at reading non-fiction. Salt Path sounds good 👍🏻❤️ 3d
Smarkies Ya. I am only aiming for a line on this one as well. Just using it to ensure that I read some non fiction books this year and maybe to hit some of the boxes. 3d
RachelO @Cathythoughts I find it SO much easier to read NF since Litsy - but I‘m terrible at ticking boxes, so a lune seems possible. And I think you‘d like the Salt Path, Cathy - it was beautifully done! 3d

Singout You've inspired me to join too! Is there an easy way to do the graphic? One line sounds like a good start! I'm passionate about social justice but don't read enough NF. 2d
RachelO @Smarkies Great minds 😊. 2d
RachelO @Singout Hooray! I‘ll tag you in @Riveted_Reader_Melissa ‘s original post, so you can screenshot the grid. You can use something like PicCollage to edit it it, or just use the Litsy app/stickers/whathaveyou to tick off boxes as you go. Hang on, I‘ll find it... 2d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @RachelO thank you! And yes, one line is all you need for Bingo! Great start, by the way! 2d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Singout Thrilled to have you join us! And yes, I just take a screenshot and use a free app called Over to put my books over the squares, but any Litsy sticker on this app works just fine. 2d
Singout Thank you! 2d

I couldn‘t resist adding one more challenge for this year, I knooow im ridiculous but I love this one and I read a lot of nonfiction. I‘ve ticked three challenge prompts off already - race, voting rights and something I‘m grateful for, which is cultivating hope in difficult political times.

#nonfiction2020 - could someone let me know if there‘s specific people to tag for this challenge?

RaimeyGallant This one looks great! 3d
ljuliel Try @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think she may have started the #nonfiction2020 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @ljuliel Yes, I‘m to blame! LOL 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa So glad to have you join us, and great job already! 3d

I found this to be an interesting look at the Supreme Court. It deals with rivalries between the justices themselves and with the Executive Branch. 10/15 #Jumpstart2020

#Nonfiction2020 - About Law/ The Supreme Court.

Lizpixie Awesome!👍 3d
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great choice! 3d

Infuriating 😡 Big pharm....greedy greedy greedy 🤯I wish the author was NOT the narrator ( her voice is grating and I‘m only on chapter 3)

Megabooks Oh yeah, this isn‘t a great audiobook. 4d
Cathythoughts Oh dear ! The audiobook narrator can make or break a book 4d
Cinfhen Dang, I wish I knew that from you beforehand @Megabooks but it‘s from #Scribd so I don‘t feel bad 4d

Cinfhen The longer I listen @Cathythoughts the more I‘m adjusting to the narrators voice 😁 4d
Joanne1 Pity about the narrator‘s voice! I‘ve got this on hold at the library, just need to get through a few others before I pick it up. 3d
Megabooks @Cinfhen I keep on wanting to reread it, but damn, like you said, her voice is grating. There are definitely some books that could benefit from professional VO and this is one!! 3d
4thhouseontheleft I'm considering this for #nonfiction2020, but not the audio version. 3d
Cinfhen I‘m listening for the same challenge @4thhouseontheleft and I honestly think print would be the more preferable medium!!! It‘s super informative @Joanne1 but my patience wears thin with the author‘s narration @Megabooks 🤭😬 3d
Chrissyreadit I went to her talk at the National Book Festival. I do not think I will read the book because we are living with the crisis in my area, but fury is just the tip of the iceberg for me. 3d
Becker I listened to this last summer. I don‘t recall the narration bothering me but I do recall learning a great deal from this book and it made me mad. 3d
Cinfhen I can only imagine what it must be like for you @Chrissyreadit as most of this book deals with Virginia 😢it‘s terrible!! Totally tragic @Becker and very frustrating. I think the problem with the narration is Beth Macy‘s voice is very monotone. She sounds so bland 😩 (edited) 3d
Hooked_on_books I read the physical book and thought it was quite good. You may want to switch to print. 3d

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind | William Kamkwamba, Bryan Mealer
post image

This memoir was about so much more than just a disadvantaged Malawian boy creating a windmill for electricity. At its core is a tale of ingenuity in the face of adversity, coupled with the power of friends, family, and strangers who believe in you and your potential. 4⭐️s! Other topics tackled included: scarcity, famine, effects of hunger on the brain, predatory price-gouging during famine, school fees and the cycle of poverty,👇🏽

lele1432 “Magic” and superstition used as a scapegoat for HIV/AIDS and famine, deforestation aiding in flooding and drought, farm livelihood dependent upon weather and fertilizer, and government corruption. It packed in a LOT and I admit some of the technical parts went over my head. But overall, an inspirational story I‘m glad to have read! Thanks @RachelO! (edited) 4d

Cinfhen Nice one 🙌🏻💜That‘s the way to play!!!!! 4d
4thhouseontheleft I really like this book too. And, wow! #PromptQueen 👏 3d
RachelO Your prompts!! Brilliant! 🤣😂🤣 So glad you enjoyed it - he really did pack a lot in there. It shouldn‘t have, but the school fees thing really shocked me - it had just never occurred to me that the family would need to pay for his education in those circumstances. 3d
lele1432 @RachelO yes! I know here in the States we really take free primary/secondary education for granted. The school fees situation creating this cycle of poverty despite his obvious talent and ability to learn was heartbreaking. But it had a happy ending! 😊 3d
lele1432 Ah! Forgot #LitsyAtoZ for letter B! @BookishMarginalia 3d

I‘m slowly adding the numerous challenges I‘ve committed to, to my bullet journal. So far I‘ve put 9 in there and still have another 5 at least to add. So much for not over extending myself in 2020! I‘m nowhere near an artist, but I‘m doing my best. #audiojournaling #jumpstart2020

Cupcake12 That‘s so organised! I‘m doing 4 and trying to keep up 📚 4d
Clwojick I love your spreads! ❤️💕 4d
Emilymdxn I‘m so in love with tracking my challenges I love it pretty much as much as completing them! Your spreads are lovely! Do you mind telling me what challenges you‘re doing? 4d

marleed I love your tracking. I‘m doing several annual challenges for the first time and at two weeks into the year, it‘s been a blast. I feared I might read books I didn‘t enjoy just to meet a challenge. Instead it is the opposite as I‘ve loved what I‘ve been reading! 4d
Emilymdxn @Lizpixie I would really like to join the Mount TBR 2020 challenge could you tell me who‘s running it or if there‘s a post I need to check out? 4d
TheAromaofBooks I'm also having fun putting challenges in my journal!! It's almost more fun than the actual reading! 😁 4d
Lizpixie @Emilymdxn there‘s a group on GoodReads you just join on there, decide how many books you‘ll commit to and introduce yourself in that forum post. Simple! @TheAromaofBooks I know what you mean, though trying to decide which font & border to use can be stressful!🤔 4d
Emilymdxn Thanks so much I‘ll join that right now! 4d
Cupcake12 So many challenges! Good luck 👍🏻 4d
SilversReviews What a beautiful journal!! Good luck on your challenges. 4d
JazzFeathers It looks awesome. And your goal of mine challenges is awesome too! 4d
Bklover It looks beautiful!!! 3d
maich Journals are so beautiful❤ Good luck with challenges and thanks for joining mine💕 2d
