jenreads7 @Cinfhen Thank you! 5y
Cinfhen How long did that take to make??? 5y
Tamra Wow! 5y
jenreads7 @Cinfhen I did a row a day for the whole year! 5y
Cinfhen Oh wow!!! How awesome 🙌🏻💕 5y
jenreads7 @Cinfhen 💕 Each row is the high temperature for that day. I made a key for temperature ranges. 5y
erzascarletbookgasm It‘s beautiful! 👏 5y
jenreads7 @erzascarletbookgasm Thank you! ☺️ 5y
DGRachel Gorgeous! I fell way behind with mine. It‘s going to be a couple more months before I get it finished. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
jenreads7 @DGRachel Thank you! You can do it! Please post pictures of your progress/finished blanket! 🥰 🧶 5y

Struggling with this book, but discovered Hoopla has it on audio, so I‘m going to attempt to make some headway in it while doing #audiocrochet and testing out my new yarn bowl. I‘m so far behind on my #temperatureafghan, it‘s not even funny. 😔

LaLecture Omg that‘s the first time I‘ve heard about yarn bowls 😳. I think I need one 😄! 5y
LazyDays Oh no! I was just going to ask if you finished! You can do it!🎉🎉 5y
LeahBergen I almost forgot about your afghan! 5y
See All 8 Comments
VeganCleopatra I didn't like this one either, the audiobook didn't help me. 😬 5y
DGRachel @LazyDays @LeahBergen My a/c died in June and it was too hot in the house all summer to work on this monster. I couldn‘t stand to have all the weight in my lap and once it cooled off, Life just kind of got in the way. I will finish it, but it‘ll be well into 2019 before I do. 😔 5y
DGRachel @LaLecture Etsy is a dangerous place. I love mine as it‘s fairly simple, but has a gorgeous glaze. 5y
DGRachel @VeganCleopatra It‘s for book club so I have to get through it. At least with an audiobook I can do something else at the same time. 😉 5y
VeganCleopatra Ah yes, I've gotten through many a book simply because an audiobook let me do other things along with it. 5y

#June rows are done on my #temperatureafghan. So much red (90s)! With my a/c busted it‘s too hot to do much work on this comfortably, so it may be a while before I get July rows done. #Halfway through the year, though. This has been a fun project. #2018 #Charlotte

rather_be_reading very interesting project! 6y
science_of_success Looks really cool! 6y

Soubhiville Also, I really hope your a/c is fixed soon! 6y
LeahBergen It‘s looking so good! 👏🏻👏🏻 6y
DGRachel @rather_be_reading @science_of_success @Soubhiville @LeahBergen Thanks everyone!! I think I may do another one with low temperatures instead of highs because orange is really not one of my favorite colors and we have a lot of days with high temps in the 80s. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 6y
Soubhiville That‘s a great idea. 6y
alisiakae Wow, this is such a neat idea! Although I would probably want to do it for a colder climate, lol, since I love blue. 6y
DGRachel @4thhouseontheleft Exactly! Blue is my favorite color, so I am seriously thinking about doing another one with low temperatures. A Charlotte one will still have plenty of green and yellow (60s and 70s) in the summer months, but we do get chilly in the winter. 😊 6y

MicrobeMom I really want to do one of these next year!!! So fun! It is beautiful! 6y
BookNAround Such a cool idea! Wish I could crochet. 6y
BookNAround If that‘s knitting instead of crocheting I‘ve just outed myself as craft challenged. 😂 (edited) 6y
DGRachel @Nerdgirl_Ms_Sorrells @MinDea @MicrobeMom Thanks!! @Dolly I‘m not a huge fan of the orange, but it was the color for 80s, so I‘m kind of stuck with it. It‘s actually a nicer shade than originally called for, and I‘m just trying to learn to love it. @BookNAround 😂😂It‘s crochet. I can‘t knit to save my life. I don‘t have enough coordination for two needles. 6y
Dolly I like your orange. The new color I mentioned would be because of the excessive, record breaking heat here, not because of an orange dislike. 😁 6y
Kaye Pretty ! 6y
DGRachel @Dolly Gotcha! I have a true red for the 90s (most of June 😱😱) and a dark red for if we break triple digits. I‘m praying I don‘t need to use that one because I can‘t stand the high heat and humidity! @Kaye Thanks! 6y
Soubhiville Wow I really like how it‘s coming along! 6y

@Dolly @CrowCAH This is the key for my #temperatureafghan May is going to have a lot of orange, which isn‘t my favorite color, but June is going to have a bunch of red. 😅

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds like a great idea, but you must live in points south if your colors stop at 29 degrees...and I‘m so jealous of you! I can‘t wait to see it when you‘re all finished. 6y
bookwrm526 I‘m sad it‘s already time for the reds and autumn reds :( (edited) 6y
Dolly If you don‘t like orange you may have to move up north to New England!😁 6y
See All 17 Comments
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I just looked back at your past posts, such pretty work so far! 6y
DGRachel @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes! I haven‘t gotten to use the purple at all, yet, and I might not get to at all. I‘m in Charlotte, NC. I‘m actually hoping I don‘t have to use the Autumn Red at all, either. Triple digit heat with East Coast humidity is a killer!😱 And thank you! It‘s been a fun project. 6y
DGRachel @bookwrm526 I‘m sad about that, too. I hate to be cold, but I‘d love a longer spell of 60s and 70s. I hate the heat. @Dolly I think I‘d have to go even further north to avoid the 80s, but then I have to deal with snow. I hate snow. Know anywhere that has year round high temps of 70*? 😂😂 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m in Pennsylvania, and I was just a few degrees short of autumn red today. It was in the high 90‘s, with heat index/humidity of over 100. But of course we also get the freezing winter temps too. Sometimes even some negatives...so I knew from your temp. range you had to be a just few states south of me. 6y
Dolly I picked up a coffee mug in San Diego that said something to the effect that everyday is sunny and 70. But then earthquakes 6y
DGRachel @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Ugh. Our forecasted highs for the next two days are 97/98, with triple digit heat indexes. @Dolly It might be worth the risk. 😂 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @DGRachel I agree! It might be worth the risk! 6y
JoScho This is such a fun idea! 6y
Ingerella I have never heard of this but I love the idea! I've been googling and I'm totally going to do it! 6y
DGRachel @JoScho It really is fun! @Ingerella Yes!! Please share photos! 6y
Crystalblu I am so doing this! What a fantastic idea. I may flip the color chart, because purple is my favorite and we have way more hot days then we have below freezing days. Thanks for sharing! 6y
DGRachel @Crystalblu That‘s a fantastic idea! 6y

April rows are finally finished on my #temperatureafghan!! It‘s nice to only be a month and a half behind. 🤦🏻‍♀️ High temps were all over the place -lots of jumping between the 60s (green), 70s (yellow), and 80s (orange).

CrowCAH Wait, so you crochet a row a different color based on the temperature for that day/week? 6y
Dolly Wait, what? Are you changing colors with the actual temperature of that day? It‘s very pretty and your stitches are so even. 😃 6y
TheFunkyBookworm Gorgeous!! What a cool idea! 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I love this!! Such a cool idea!! 6y
DGRachel @CrowCAH @Dolly Yes! I‘m recording the high temperature for Charlotte, NC for each day in a bullet journal and crochet one row per day in the color the represents that temperature. At the end of the year, I‘ll have a historical record in a blanket. 😊 6y
Schlinkles @dgrachel That is incredibly cool! I love this!! 6y

Sarah1960 What pattern stitch are you using? It is gorgeous! 6y
DGRachel @IamIamIam Thanks!! @Crystalblu Please share pictures! @LazyDays It has been a ton of fun so far! 6y
DGRachel @Sarah1960 It‘s a version of Apache Tears. I found a video on YouTube via Pinterest that showed how to do it. It‘s easy enough for someone with only a basic knowledge of crochet can do (that‘s me), but the zig zag nature of the design creates a lot of visual interest. 6y
CrowCAH @DGRachel OMG that is sooo neat and I just might have to borrow this idea! Thanks for sharing! 6y
DGRachel @CrowCAH Please share pictures if you decide to do something! 6y
CrowCAH @DGRachel will do; thinking a scarf width would look cool too! 6y

This was my final total for #13inThree. I switched to audiobook for the tagged book, which is the only reason I got this far. I was able to make some progress on my #temperatureafghan while #audiocrocheting. 😊 So, I didn‘t make the goal, but I made progress. I‘m happy about that.

Samplergal Excellent! 6y

Finished the February rows while listening to this audiobook. I think this year was the warmest February on record for Charlotte. March has been significantly cooler so far. Will start the March rows tomorrow. #temperatureafghan #audiocrochet

dsfisher Wow, Rachel looks good, your Grandma likes it. 6y
dsfisher Are you liking the doctor‘s sister? 6y
DGRachel @dsfisher I LOVE Caroline. She cracks me up as much as Virginia Revel did in The Secret of Chimneys. Glad Gramma approves of the afghan. Tell her I said thank you and give her my love. 😘 6y
See All 23 Comments
dsfisher She hopes it‘s straighter than the one she did for you. And back at you on the love 💕 6y
minkyb Pretty! 6y
dsfisher And shouldn‘t you be asleep 💤 6y
DGRachel @dsfisher I picked super soft flexible yarn because it is stretchy and forgiving so it shouldn‘t look like a trapezoid. 😂😂. And yes, I should be, but I‘m stressed and can‘t sleep so I‘m watching The Voice. 6y
dsfisher Breathe. Miss the Voice. She is going to send you another one she did. It‘s gorgeous. 6y
DGRachel @dsfisher another afghan? You know I‘ll never turn down blankets no matter what shape. 😍😍 6y
dsfisher I know and this one has lots of different crochet stitches. Cream, think fisherman‘s sweaters 6y
DGRachel @dsfisher Oooooohhhh. **grabby hands** 6y
dsfisher LOL 😂 6y
TricksyTails Wow! This is coming along beautifully! 😍💙 6y
DGRachel Thanks @TricksyTails I‘m having a lot of fun working on it! 6y
TricksyTails I want to make one too but since I‘m too OCD, I‘ll need to wait until the first of the year. I love to crochet but I suck at making it straight! 6y
DGRachel @TricksyTails I found the trick to managing tension and keeping the afghan straight is to buy super soft, stretchy yarn. It hides a multitude of tension sins. 🤣🤣 6y
TricksyTails Ha! Trust me, my skills are lacking severely! No amount of squishy yarn can disguise that! 🤣 6y
DGRachel @TricksyTails They can‘t be much worse than mine! This is the most complex pattern I‘ve ever done and it‘s nothing more than single and double crochet and you start a new thread on each row, no turning. Usually, I grab a variegated yarn and just do a double crochet stitch for the entire afghan. Seriously-soft, variegated yarn is the ultimate “cheat”. 6y
TricksyTails Which is your favorite yarn that hides the terrible skills of the crocheter? 😂 6y
DGRachel @TricksyTails I‘ve found Caron Simply Soft to be really forgiving. It‘s readily available everywhere, not super expensive, and comes in a wide variety of colors, both solids and variegated. 6y
TricksyTails Okay! Now I know I‘m completely hopeless because I‘ve used Caron Simply Soft! It ended up looking like a misshapen blob! 😂 I just don‘t have skills! 🙃 6y
DGRachel @TricksyTails 1️⃣ You just need practice 2️⃣ You‘re probably being too hard on yourself. 😘😘 6y
TricksyTails Definitely need practice! 🤗♥️ 6y

I grabbed this because it‘s narrated in part by Richard Armitage. His voice is dreamy for #audiocrochet even if the story is barely “meh”. As you can see from the top #temperatureafghan rows, our weather here has been a roller coaster this last week.

TricksyTails Richard Armitage could read the CDC Manual and I‘d find it irresistible. ♥️ Your crochet looks beautiful! Is this the one you started a little while back with different colors? I love the pattern! 😍 6y
DGRachel @TricksyTails Yes, it‘s the same one. Thank you. 😊 I do one row per day in a color for that day‘s high temperature. I can‘t believe we‘ve already had one 80+ degree day in February! I think there are at least two more in the forecast for next week. 6y
TricksyTails How fun!! Did you start it the first of the year? Is the pattern online or your own? I love it! 80+??? No thank you! I want mine to be all blue! I‘m allergic to the sun! 😂 6y

DGRachel @TricksyTails Yep. This is my 2018 Charlotte NC blanket. I‘m looking forward to seeing it at the end of the year. (edited) 6y
DGRachel @TricksyTails I think the pattern is called Apache tears. I found a YouTube video on Pinterest. 6y
Kaye Your afghan is turning out so pretty. 6y
tammysue I love the colors! 6y
MatchlessMarie Yasss I listened to the classic Love Poems he narrated for audible last month and I definitely want to listen to more of his narrations in the future 👂🍬 6y
DGRachel @Kaye Thanks! @whatshesreadingnow Me, too. I tweaked the choices a bit from the one I saw on Pinterest and I‘m happy with my choices. The orange will never be my favorite color, but it‘s definitely a bright, warm shade, so it‘s good for the 80s. 😊 6y
DGRachel @MatchlessMarie I‘m not a fan of poetry as a general rule, but I may have to see if I can find the ones he narrates. I wouldn‘t recommend this book, but he narrates a few other things that I‘ve really enjoyed. 6y
Maria514626 Richard Armitage??? I‘d listen to him read the worst book in the world! ❤️ 6y
DGRachel @Maria514626 He‘s the only reason I haven‘t bailed on this audiobook! 6y
Maria514626 @DGRachel Have you seen the BBC‘s North & South or MI-5? Excellent and he‘s excellent in them! 6y
DGRachel @Maria514626 Yes! I own North & South on DVD. I haven‘t seen him in MI-5, because I was trying to watch in order, and got distracted by other shows before I reached his seasons. 6y
Maria514626 Oh, smoldering Mr. Thornton on demand! 🤗 6y
drokka Do you do a row a day? For how long? I love this idea for an Afghan. 6y
DGRachel @drokka Yes. It‘s one row per day in the color that represents the high temperature for the day. I plan to do a full year (1/1 - 12/31/18). I posted at the beginning of January with the original color scheme: post on http://litsy.com/p/N3F4YVFnZENI Not sure if the link will work, but I‘m sure I‘ll post again with another copy of the actual color template. 😊 (edited) 6y
MatchlessMarie @DGRachel I came across a handful of classics he narrates on audible as well. The poetry collection wasn‘t very long, maybe 30 min. 6y
AshleyHoss820 I have a couple of temperature Afghans but I used the camel stitch! Is this Apache Tears stitch? I love it!! Also: Armitage? 🤤🤤🤤 6y
DGRachel @AshleyHoss820 Yes, this is an Apache Tears pattern. 😊 I found a tutorial video on YouTube and it looked easy enough for me. I‘ve never done anything more complicated than a treble crochet stitch and only done a pattern (a chevron) once before on a very small afghan. Usually, when I get the crochet bug, I buy a bunch of variegated yarn and just do a double or treble crochet stitches until I no longer feel the urge to crochet. 😂 6y
AshleyHoss820 @DGRachel 😂😂😂 I crochet a lot! I‘m working on the Peppermint Throw by RedHeart for the 13th time...😄😄 I think your doing a lovely job! One row a day isn‘t too much of a commitment and can help cure that Crochet Bug! 😄 6y
DGRachel @AshleyHoss820 Thank you! I‘m really enjoying the experience and I love that I‘ll have a historical record when I‘m done. I‘ll have to look up that camel stitch. Ideas for next year! 6y
AshleyHoss820 @DGRachel It‘s an easy stitch and it looks knit! 😄 6y
DGRachel @AshleyHoss820 I‘ve been hunting YouTube videos. 😂 I have some ugly yarn that I know I won‘t use in a real blanket, so I may work up a swatch this week, just to try it out. It looks neat! Thank you for mentioning it! 6y
AshleyHoss820 @DGRachel No problem!! I like corrupting people and making them crochet more! 😂😂😂 Have fun! 6y
