My first time reading this author and it was just ok for me. It just felt slow for me and didn‘t really get into it
I had several warnings that this was more about the friendship that the romance and while I think this is Henry‘s best novel yet (I‘ve found them to feel more like vignettes strung together than a cohesive story), I was still disappointed in the ending.
My start of summer splurge every year lately is the new book by Emily Henry. Love the color of this year‘s book- reminds me of play dough.
A yummy THC seltzer, and the exclusive scent from one of my favorite vacation spots—The Arizona Biltmore—have put me in the mood to finally finish this book. Emily Henry has done it again: she‘s pulled me back into her universe and I don‘t want to leave! I tried to control myself, but I can‘t any longer. I‘m finishing this baby tonight! #FabulousFriday
If you think walking 3.5km home from the library with 7 books is going to teach me a lesson about putting so many books on hold, you‘d be wrong.
I‘ve got 2 weeks for this stack so I‘ve arranged them in order from least likely to most likely to be able to renew 😂
This isn‘t my favorite Emily Henry, but that‘s not to say I didn‘t really like it. It had the great dialogue that makes me feel all sorts of things and laugh out loud. She brings me to locations that I love, like the coast of Maine, pictured. I could have done without the romantic relationship, actually, in favor of exploring more how friendships evolve as we grow up. A solid pick for me.
Emily Henry has become an automatic read for me. I got lucky that there was a copy I could borrow through Libby/my library (couldn‘t believe there wasn‘t a wait list). I love the banter that Henry has between her characters. The story centers around what happens after college & the changes that happen between distance & careers. The realization that sometimes the job you wanted your whole life might not be right for you. How to handle when
After reading Book Lovers I was so excited to read this book. However it was so FRUSTRATING. Two characters (ex-fiancés) who still love each other but tip toe around what happened to their relationship. This narrative DRUG on until finally there was a resolution. I will not lie..after reading page after page I had to skim chapters. I think it was a good book…just too frustrating for me to read. ⭐️
This was the 3rd book I have read by this author and I have become a fan. The rom-coms have the requisite humour, romance with a little spice and this one had some surprising depth. The book was also an interesting look at what happens when a group of college friends move on to real life and what goes into maintaining those friendships as their locations and life plans diverge. I loved all the characters and the setting was great. 4/5 stars
Complex characters, emotional and hopeful story + beautiful writing. Not a comedy.
Reading *about* a place while traveling *to* said place = MY happy place. In this case, Maine.
Whoops - stayed up way too late finishing this one but I HAD to. Loved it so much
This book is eerily like some other book that I‘ve read. I‘m a little disappointed that I may have to break up with Emily Henry.
Six friends meet for a week at vacation home in Maine for the last time before it‘s sold. Two of them haven‘t told the others that they‘d broken off their engagement months before. The clever banter of this book saves it from a so-so rating. It dragged a bit in the middle during the angsty chapters and I was absolutely dumbfounded how such good friends could not communicate with each other, although that‘s a point of the book.
Man oh man did EmHen up her game for this one! I love how it was a little more expansive than a traditional romance novel - Sab and Cleo also had real issues and developments in their lives, and Harriet's story was more about her unlearning the bad love habits she picked up in childhood than focusing solely on Wyn. (But also Wyn Connor??? Oh my God!!!) Ten million stars. #contemporaryromance #womensfiction #everything
“Want is a kind of thief. It‘s a door in your heart, and once you know it‘s there, you‘ll spend your life longing for whatever‘s behind it.”
I dropped hints and I‘m so glad. Happy Mother‘s Day from my husband. 🌸❤️ next up I‘ve treated myself to a few days off to relax, play pinball, plant some things and eat cake.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn‘t really know what I was getting into when I opened this book, but it was so good! It was funny, sweet, romantic all in one and I absolutely loved it. I‘ll definitely read another book by the same author
As usual, the witty banter in Emily Henry‘s newest romance is ON POINT. This is fortunate, for balance‘s sake, because this one was a weepy — and I wasn‘t expecting it! (Trigger warning: death of a parent.)
My biggest complaint is that many (not all) of the conflicts felt fabricated and avoidable. And I can‘t think of a sexy “furniture designer” love interest without thinking of SaTC‘s Aidan Shaw; Henry had to‘ve known that about her audience!
Another winner from Emily Henry. And Julia Whelan continues to be the perfect narrator for this author‘s books. Henry‘s dialogue is so good, real, and smart - I just love to listen.
Listening to Emily Henry talk about her new book, with my knitting, on the deck, with the dog. Man, a perfect end to the day!
This book reminds me of a Hallmark movie, it was decent barely any spice. Finished it quickly on a road trip... there is a good message about ones happiness it just took hours to get there.
If youre interested in a lovey dovey romance this is for you- not me.
The best way I can describe this book is that Henry remains an auto-buy author for me. It‘s not my favorite, but I loved it. It made me think of the places & the people who I call home in the deep friendships that have lasted through years & so many changes. *Photo in one of my happy places.
“I like how it‘s so measurable, like you immediately see that what you‘re doing is making a difference. Whenever I get anxious, I clean, and it relaxes me.”
Sometimes hoopla comes through. I never use the holds feature on hoopla but I took a gamble and it worked because my Libby hold is still pretty long. Listening while doing some busy work.
This is the story of a couple that has broken up that pretends to still be together for a friends getaway. It is actually a story full of melancholy, both for how adult friendships change and how relationships do not always work out how you wish. I can‘t say I enjoyed reading this, and I don‘t know if I genuinely believed in the main couple. This has Emily Henry‘s trademark beautiful writing and story of a relationship.⬇️
Heading into summer just wouldn‘t be the same if I couldn‘t do it with a brightly colored cover of an Emily Henry HEA rom-dram and a new cast of characters to love. This lived up to my own personal hype for her summer books. I thought it was a hoot, whenever MC Harriet‘s love of cozy mysteries was worked into the conversation - ‘the guy that found the body has a boring joke b and wears sweater vests‘ - haha! And shout out to Bozeman MT.
Happy Friday! 🩷🩵🩷🩵
Today I'm enjoying my first bowl of ice cream on my balcony this year! Super excited about it! 😋🍦
Harriet and Wyn were the prefect college couple. Yet now, they‘re not talking. The notion that they didn‘t tell their best friends makes sense to me. Most made sense to me, especially clicked with Harry explaining she never learned how to argue with people she loves. I connected deeply. The couple focused so hard on making the other happy they overlooked the reality of a relationship, forgot themselves in it. Not perfect. Refreshing read. #ouabc
I loved being back in Emily Henry‘s world. Her characters are funny and smart with a real life depth that makes you want to cheer them on. This group of friends is vacationing together in their favorite place for the last time as it is about to be sold. Exes pretend to still be together to keep everyone happy and, of course, shenanigans ensue. The backstory is a bit heartbreaking but al the tears are worth it. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So many tropes, yet Henry somehow makes them work, and feel believable. My favorite thing about her books is the flow. They never feel forced. The dialogue is always solid; always a sense of humor. This is a story about relationships, both of the romantic and friend sort, changing shapes as life progresses. Very relatable! Do what makes you happy.
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they‘re still not discussing—they don‘t. They broke up six months ago. And still haven‘t told their best friends. Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group‘s yearly getaway for the last decade.
All. The. Feels. I inhaled this one today. I love stories like this where it's relatable and understandable and when it's populated by characters you care about. Second chance romance is a fun trope when it's done well. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read. This one is going to make it onto my keeper bookcase. #bookspin #LittensLoveRomance #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
Guess I should be happy I didn‘t buy this book during indie bookstore day. Was Intrigued yet didn‘t want the large book for my flight to keep all contained. Passed up a signed copy, and instead got this book box. The “never have I ever” bookish is really cool. Feels like it‘ll be a good summer prep book. #ouabc
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️One of my most anticipated books coming out this year, Emily Henry really can do no wrong. And if Julia Whelan continues to read all her audiobooks? That feels unstoppable.
I loved this one - taking the fake dating trope and giving it more weight, more ache, while still having laugh out loud lines and giving every single character so much “realness” that every action had motivation and each was shown such care.
What a joy.
Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Cincinnati, Ohio and Lexington, Kentucky hosted a virtual author event with Emily Henry in conversation with Carley Fortune. Emily Henry just released her latest romance novel, Happy Place. I wrote about my experience on my blog…https://abookandadog.com
I‘m in one of my happy places drinking a Cherry Collins, waiting for sweet potato fries…
And I got this book for $6 because I had a $21 reward for buying so many books at my local indie so that just made everything better
I finished this earlier this week. I couldn't put it down. I loved it so much even when I hated that it made me cry several times.
Also, do you see that? It was snowing fat fluffy flakes earlier today! That's April in Wisconsin.
First time camper here, too!
These are my nominations for #CampLitsy23, and I‘m very excited to see which books will end up being the final picks. I always love summer reading!
