I‘m enjoying Beach Read so far! Only a few chapters in, but around 4 stars.
The Midnight Library is my favorite read so far in 2022!
I‘m grateful for beach days with new friends!
@swishandflick
On Saturday I got my first beach visit of the season! Not sure if I‘ll have the chance to go much more, but it was perfect. Loved reading the beach read, Beach Read, on the beach!!
I‘ve read all three now, and I‘m not sure if it‘s just a case of the most recently read being the favorite, but I don‘t care. I loved this book!
Gus and January are my favorites—loved that they are very different kinds of writers. I adored the witty banter, the perfect amount of steamy, and the realistically complex emotions. It does have the obligatory Emily Henry annoying freak out by the main character, but it was blessedly short.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Truly one of my new fav book couples, they‘re so funny and cute.
January‘s life is falling apart so she moves in to her dad‘s beach house for the summer, only to learn that her neighbor is her old college writing nemesis, except she never really hated him. Both of them in a writing slump, they challenge each other to write a book in each other‘s preferred genre and help each other do research for it. And no one is going to fall in love.
I had a lot of fun reading this one for my book club! We don‘t usually read romances but the premise of rival authors switching genres for a bet, appealed to us all and it won the vote by a landslide! January Andrews relocates to a Michigan beach town in the wake of her father‘s sudden death, a breakup and some shocking family revelations. Coincidentally her college crush/nemesis- also a successful author- lives next door. Fun ensues from there!
This was good🌟 I expected it to be a really light, fun rom com, and then there was a fair whack more depth - a lil bit like January starting out viewing life & love before realising it's all so much more complicated than that. I like that that realisation didn't devalue her writing/her belief in happy endings, or rather a happy for now. I felt like the pacing was slightly off sometimes but overall a good'un

Next up! Reading this as part of my lil book club with @indiaro & @Emilymdxn 😁 It's also part of my #NYWD22 list! @monalyisha @dariazeoli
January and Gus are the cutest thing!! 🥰 There were so many things I related to with January and her feelings with her dad (and her knack for purse wine drinking 😉). This honestly had the perfect amount of family drama, romance, a lil spicy spice, lots of funny banter, and it truly was a delight to read!
This one really hit home. It was an emotional and ultimately uplifting read.
I have never been much of a romance reader, but I think Emily Henry hits just the right balance for me. Characters that are appealing and smart but also messy. Stories that have a sense of humor, aren‘t too sticky-sweet, a bit steamy, and not completely ridiculous. Looking forward to her next one. Julia Whelan is the perfect narrator for Henry‘s books. Loved the audiobook.
Reading this at a 6 hr tennis event and I am having way too many loud lol moments. Do busses really drive off cliffs in rom-coms killing all characters?
I like this so far better than People We Meet on Vacation. 😄
After a stressful few months, I‘m finally starting to get back into reading and found the perfect place to do it
Loved this book! It was a fast read. Takes a spin on the enemies to lovers story. 🌶🌶.5/5 spice
Invested in a stand called a Flippy to help me hold my kindle and iPad. So far it‘s been helpful. It‘s light weight and it is marketed by it‘s inventor. A husband and wife team according to the package.
Maybe I should make my to-do lists say "read all day and do the bare minimum adulting tasks" and then I'll feel really satisfied for accomplishing exactly that.
This was a really good book! It has great reviews and I can see why. It's perfect for escaping into. Nothing really heavy and everything ends up okay in the end. Perfect for a weekend read.
Such a fun trip…thank you.
Classic enemies to lovers filled with fun banter and good 🌶. There was a lot going on at some points; I expected the subplots to reflect onto them in some way, but found that to be missing 🤷🏻♀️ Wasn‘t totally into it at first so definitely recommend reading past the first few chapters for a nice, cute read
This was a nice, fluffy read, and I did enjoy the story line - but it was not “People Who Meet on Vacation.” I know I shouldn‘t compare books, but I can‘t help it! “People” was soooo good! #Libby #audiobook
I lose patience when characters attribute motives to others that aren‘t based on evidence; there‘s a lot of that here. Still, I liked this enemies to lovers romance. January and Gus, both writers, have been hurt and have writers block. They decide to solve it by trying to write in the other‘s genre, resisting each other but falling in love along the way. Both are likable, but flawed people. I liked the ending. Started Mrs. Everything. #audiowalk
My husband suggested I take his jacket with me as I was headed out for my walk. I‘m glad I listened; with the wind the way it was, my thin jacket would not have been enough. Beach Read has been my evening listen, but I shifted it to my new walking book. It‘s a change of pace from The Sittaford Mystery! The Japanese Garden down the street is pretty bare right now, so I can see some things, like that creek, that I can‘t usually see. #audiowalk
6/100
This is the second book I have read by this author and I think it is safe to say she is an auto buy from here on out. Lots of witty banner. Does go a little deep at time as both delve in issues in their past (and present). Great read
Intricate, intimate, invigorating
This was a lovely read to start the year. Weightier than many rom-coms, but still with lots of witty banter. I particularly enjoyed how she leaned in to genre tropes with both tongue in cheek and heart on sleeve (hello, eccentricly awesome small town characters!). I'll definitely check out her next one when I want something light but not too saccharine!

Library stack for #NewYearWhoDis 😄 I'll be starting with the tagged, because there is someone waiting to borrow it after me!
I'll also be starting World of Wonders as an ebook, because my hold just came in 🎉 Perfect timing!

December 27, 2021 As promised, I FINISHED THE BOOK!!! I could tell that January and Augustus would come to good terms and that he would likely ask January to marry him. I knew it!!! Such a good read. 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
December 26, 2021 So close to finishing the book... Im on page 322 out of 358. Exactly 36 pages left someone stop me from finishing. Tbh, whenever I read a romance novel, I read TOO much and can't stop. Anyway, good thing I have three new books I just ordered off Amazon.
December 24, 2021 Ooooh my. January Andrews and Gus Everett. Such steamy romance. I am like halfway through the book --- without even trying. These romantic novels get me. I mean, I do not even intend to read them so quickly but it happens. Honestly, it happens and I am not ashamed one bit!
Thanks to @monalyisha for organising next year's #NYWD22 and to @dariazeoli for recommending some awesome books!! I think my plan is just to read as many of these as possible in January to begin with😁
I didn't get as much into NYWD as I would have liked to this year (so many of @mklong's recommended books are still very much on my list though!), so here goes attempt 2!!
I‘ve been trying to read this book for more than a year. Finally finished it on the morning of debarkation from my solo cruise. A little cheesy, but a very nice, light read.
Reader beware, this is not a light fluffy romance. It‘s pretty raw and gut wrenching at times, but in saying that it also had me laughing out loud and tearing up. Extremely well done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
October 27, 2021 It has been over 1 month since my last post. Sorry not sorry. I have been busy... sorry about that. Anyway, i had an Amazon order arrive yesterday in the mail and one of them was this lovely book by Emily Henry. I saw thag it had high ratings so i decided to jump on the bandwagon and add it to my TBR list. I can't wait to read it!!!
Perfect book for reading at the beach! It also broke me out of yet another reading slump.
Enjoyable, but not quite the page turner I was hoping for. I felt like it could have been 100 pages shorter. I will admit that I‘m pretty selective about romances!
4⭐ but it almost got 3.5 stars only. The extra 0.5 star is for the letters. They made me cry and feel so heartbroken because I felt he was my own father writing me letters that allowed me to have a final piece of him. It was so good and I'm glad I read it after putting it off for so long.
On the porch on a crisp fall evening is one of my favorite places to read. 🍁🧡📚
"And that was the moment I realized: when the world felt dark and scary, love could whisk you off to go dancing; laughter could take some of the pain away; beauty could punch holes in your fear. I decided then that my life would be full of all three."
January is a romance write who no longer believes in love. Gus is a literary writer who has writers block. They end up living next door to each over the summer. They strike a deal to swap genre to write. The story follows their time and journey together.
It was a fun read but overall I was disappointed. I‘ve seen great reviews but I felt it dragged in places. The MCs were likeable but the ending was predictable early on.
Finally getting round to this one. Heard mixed reviews so let‘s give it a go.
Lots of mixed reviews, but I really enjoyed it (other than thinking it could have been tightened up a little). Not your average rom-com as it deals with adultery, grief, child abuse. Both January and Gus have a lot to work through, both personally and professionally (they‘re both writers, different genres). But as they become friends they also become good support for the other. 🔻
