The Butterfly Garden: A Thriller
The Butterfly Garden: A Thriller | Dot Hutchison
Maya, a fierce survivor, leads us through the aftermath of a brutal event as she recounts her tale to the FBI, but her story keeps us at the edges, letting the questions simmer, bubbling up small answers that beg new, bigger questions in their wake: How did Maya escape captivity? Did the other girls survive? What happened to the gardenand the Gardener? Maya reveals a vivid dimension to the twisted puzzle and raises larger questions about her own motives. As the truth slowly emerges from a carefully constructed cocoon, author Dot Hutchison has us questioning whether this is a tale of terrible beauty or a beautiful tale of terror. The frantic rustling of a butterflys wings against a collectors net seems futilebut when many butterflies flock together, they become much harder to pin down. For us, this innocuous symbol of transformative beauty will forever be a perverse reminder of the Gardener, a depraved man with his magnificent, grotesque collection of butterflies.

🦋The Butterfly Garden🦋
It‘s truly a story that you won‘t forget easily. My one of my favorite quotes from the book is this “I think a trauma doesn‘t stop just because you‘ve been rescued.” Dot shows what it‘s truly like to be a survivor with the feelings and insecurities that comes with it. She put a very personal and inside view of what a survivor of abuse feels and the thought process behind it.
From yours truly,
The Book Queen 👑

Wow. Just... wow. This book surprised me. It will be added to my list of all time favorites! The beauty described against the darkness is astounding. A girl emerges from a beautiful prison to tell her story. The way it‘s written is perfect. I loved hearing it as an interview of a witness which I think is such a fresh telling of a thriller. 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

LiteraryinLititz Great review! I‘m intrigued! 1mo
HollyBahling @LiteraryinLititz It is fantastic! I will say ion full disclosure it deals with kidnapping violence and rape. It isn‘t for everyone. However, the ending made my coworkers jump because I gasped so loud! So amazing! 1mo

This was sitting on my Kindle for far too long. It was great! Not life-changing or genre-expanding, but a solid read from start to finish. You can polish this off in a day if you like.
If you‘re interested in this, don‘t put it off - you‘ll be sorry you did.

I enjoyed this very much. The plot is disturbing but I didnt feel like it was excessively graphic like some other thrillers I have read. I enjoyed the way the story was told - you know the outcome from the first page but the telling of the events leading up to that will have you hooked. And a twist at the end that I didn't see coming! Already downloaded the next book, planning to read it immediately!

It was okay. Nothing I‘d recommend to friends but a decent story. I was hoping for a little bit more of a twist at the end and the ending wasn‘t too satisfying. Overall I‘d give it 3.5 ⭐️ Not horrible but not great either.

Whew, this was intensely dark and disturbing, but so beautifully written. This one took me a while to finish. I had to put it down multiple times. That being said though, the characters are so layered and complex, some more likeable than others. The friendships formed are so intriguing, to experience such horrifying things together creates such a unique bond. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Had an early flight out of Austin this morning, which gave me enough time to knock the rest of this book out. I wasn't as enthralled as a lot of the positive reviews I've seen, I kept hoping for some sort of twist to bring me around but it just fell flat. A horrifying premise with no amount of believability whatsoever, so suspend disbelief all ye who enter here. #kindleunlimited

This book is horrifyingly beautiful. The subject matter is disturbing and difficult to stomach at times but the writing is beautiful and the protagonist is, in my opinion, a very strong and likeable young woman. If you do not have a strong stomach this is not for you. I couldn‘t put it down for long though and finished the book in two days. #thriller #horror #bibliophile #bookworm

This book was crazy from start to finish! Not my usual fare but the plot seemed interesting and, to me, felt somewhere along the lines of a CSI or SVU episode, which worked for me because I love both of those shows 😅 Aside from some of Its ridiculousness, the book keeps your attention and make you want to keep reading just to find out what happens. I give it 🌠🌠🌠🌠

It was intense, and I can definitely say I was not bored. But it seemed to be lacking something. Heart, maybe? I can't put my finger on it, but the story doesn't feel real to me. The crimes are sick and perverted in the extreme, but there's a fakeness to it that just makes it unbelievable. I liked the way it was written, with the girl telling the story in flashbacks, but overall...I was not impressed with this one.

I'm very glad @the-flashley was able to send this along as part of our #LMPBC group, it was very good. I had been in a bit of a reading slump, and I flew through this. It's pretty intense in spots (to the point that I almost put it down at one point), trigger warnings for sexual assault and abuse. But, the story was overall pretty empowering, and I'd still recommend it.

I also read this for #Booked2019 for the New To You Author category!

Cinfhen I‘ve heard this book is intense! Thanks for the review and warning. 7mo

Gripping! The Butterfly Garden is indeed a page turner, and this continues to be one of my favorite thrillers written in recent years.

A twisted man keeps a beautiful garden - flowers, waterfalls, and butterflies. The twist is these butterflies are captured girls who he intends to preserve for as long as possible.

Told from one of the captive‘s point of view. I never could be as strong as she was!

Hope_a It is the first book from trilogy. I suppose you know that. I didn‘t like second and third book. Absolutely not that stunning as this. I had to push myself a little bit to finish them. 7mo
