Solid 31/2 stars. Almost a 4. But there was just a little something missing. I will definitely read more of her work. I think that there was so much potential with the isolated sanitarium and being blocked off and she could have really played that up more.

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Supposedly it is quite different from her YA fantasy series. Definitely check out this book if you are into magic and a adultish slightly Harry Potter-esque book. Slight.

I mean It‘s Shirley Jackson so of course it was amazing. This was my first reading of this book, but the question i have is...what they heck went on in this woman‘s mind that she wrote these books. So twisted and yet....relatable and good. I am going to have to see if I can find a biography of her to read.

Trying to figure out why it took me 10 years to read this book. First I loved it. Enough so that it was hard for me not to turn around and start right over. 2nd, it is confusing to start. So many characters! But don‘t give up it is awesome. I listened to this, but will be buying the book book to have on hand!

I actually really like this one. But this genre is how I learned to love reading and mysteries so it would have been hard to disappoint. I loved the concept of short stories mixed in with overall story and thought it was well done for the most part. Highly suggest reading this if you are a fan of Christie, Highsmith, etc.

I waffled between 2 1/2 and 3 stars on this one. I mean, to be fair it‘s not bad. I absolutely loved the premise. Definitely did not need it delivered in the form of therapy through fiction. It ended up feeling more like a self-help book than anything else. And that disappoints me. I had been waiting for awhile to read this one

I have no clue why I thought it would be a good idea to read this book. But I did. It is haunting and beautiful and sad and hopeful and just wrong that this was even able to be written. Brief synopsis, a young woman is released from the Nazi concentration camps and starts traveling to find her young brother. I don‘t know how people read these books regularly.

Definitely a series I will read more of. Typical cozy mystery. Set in an Asian-centric plaza in Ohio. Typical cozy mystery and a easy audio read when I wasn‘t feeling too hot and didn‘t really want to concentrate on anything. No knitting during this one.

Yes, I gave this 2 stars and a pick. The writing is nothing to well, write home about, BUT it serves it‘s purpose. This is book 2 in the series and I will read book 3. I always have a book I read to fall asleep to. Usually it is not something I am too invested in otherwise I would stay up reading all night long. Usually it is something silly and light. But it worked. I was amused and fell asleep!

A beautiful love story in so many different ways. I rarely want to see books I like made into movies but I would love to see this as one. Anyone else who has read it have any thoughts?

Excellent book. I know that there was some controversy around this book, white author writing about a black man/contemporary slavery experience. Nonetheless, the book was so very good. I highly suggest reading.

3.5-4 stars. I really liked it! The kicker for me that took it down a little is that the first half of the book was sooo slow. There were a few chapters there that just felt like a retelling of the 4 chapters before it. If your chapters aren‘t moving the story forward, then rethink if they need to be there. The last half was amazing! I am definitely going to add the next in the series to my tbr pile

I was pretty impressed with this. A young adult label, but I would argue definitely the older boundaries of that. It‘s a dark teen murder that mixes Nancy Drew with the podcast Serial. 5ere is a lot that you have to suspend your disbelief for in terms of what a hs senior would get away with, but the writing was excellent! Whipped through it in one day. So lots of progress on the new blanket!

So, good book. I think I would have enjoyed it more reading as a book vs listening to the audio of it. It was hard to keep track in places of who was who from where. It was kind of a weird serious mix of Dogma and that old kids movie The Pagemaster. I do recommend it, but if you go the audio route make sure you have no distractions.

Excellent read. A story within a story, which I don‘t usually enjoy. Spread 35 years apart. This book has a bit of everything. Mystery, murder, serial killer, even paranormal. Nothing cheesy. Just how there are different ways to be haunted depending on your viewpoint on the crime.

Meh.
So, this could have been excellent. Great jerk of a detective, great mystery and plot. The problem was Anthony Horowitz. He wrote himself in to the story as the “Watson” and pontifically waxed about all of his success as a writer. And waxed and waxed.... It took me out of the story and I had to keep going back to find the plot again.

It was as expected. If you have read Ready Player One it is like that mixed with Ender‘s Game. Heavy on the 80s pop culture with the idea of using video games to train unsuspecting kids to go up against an alien invasion. Good read. It had a few more emotional threads than i remember being in Ready Player One. But definitely a good quick palate cleanser after a heavy book

So...this book was amazing. Intense. Not scary in a a horror book kind of way. I had to put it down and pick up a light read in between to get a bit of a break. (Ernest Cline‘s Armada). But if you want to be horrified by late 80‘s early 90‘s misogyny in the south, and every trigger warning you can think to put on a book then I highly recommend it.

So..it was really good. Just very different than what I was expecting. More of a veiled Harper Lee biography that the author used true crime in the beginning 1/3 of the book to hook you in...and then just a biography after that with a few references back to the crime and trial thrown in their. I really enjoyed it, it was well written, just seems a bit like false advertising. #furioushours #harperlee #truecrime
