The Boyfriend Project
The Boyfriend Project | Farrah Rochon
USA Today bestselling author Farrah Rochon launches a new series about three young women who become friends when the live Tweeting of a disastrous date leads them to discover they've all been duped by the same man. Samiah Brooks never thought she would be "that" girl. But a live tweet of a horrific date just revealed the painful truth: she's been catfished by a three-timing jerk of a boyfriend. Suddenly Samiah-along with his two other "girlfriends," London and Taylor -- have gone viral online. Now the three new besties are making a pact to spend the next six months investing in themselves. No men, no dating, and no worrying about their relationship status . . . For once Samiah is putting herself first, and that includes finally developing the app she's always dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy, honey-eyed Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? When it comes to love, there's no such thing as a coincidence. But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true?

I‘m all about a book with an Austin, TX setting - such a fun city. I‘ve been reading some heavy books of late and this one was just fun. You know you‘re in for laughs when in the opening scene the MC is flagrantly cheated on by a cad and her immediate revenge is to befriend not just one but two of said cad‘s other lovers.

ChasingOm I really liked this series! 1mo
marleed @ChasingOm oh I didn‘t realize this was part of a series! 1mo
Suet624 Funny enough, I‘ve done the same thing. My cad had good taste in women 😀 and I‘ve become good friends with several of them. 1mo
marleed @Suet624 oh you are my kind of woman! That‘s the best revenge! 1mo

Such a fun audiobook!! Character growth combined with relationship development and witty humor, couldn‘t help myself but love following along! An easy listen and not to mention another book that writes of both the amazingness and challenges for women in STEM ❤️ I hope there will be more to come by Farrah Rochon.

In other #bookmail news, I got my #lmpbc book for last round back. It was fun to read all your notes. Ok ladies I got The Boyfriend Project in my mailbox earlier this week. I am finishing up a different book, and then will start on this. Hopefully I get it done before the end of October.

Finished my #lmpbc book last week but had to take a few days to figure out my final thoughts.

Overall I enjoyed this. It‘s a fast light romance as long as you don‘t look too closely. For me I prefer my romances to dig a little deeper so it‘s a low pick. I don‘t want to spoil anything for the rest of the group so I‘ll end with this: I liked it well enough to read book 2 in the series, but I‘ll be borrowing it from the library instead of buying.

MeganAnn @Annie1215 this will go out in the mail tomorrow as I didn‘t make it home before the post office closed today. 3y

This was cute but not memorable. I liked all the charactors (except Keighleigh obvs!) and the look "behind the scenes" at a tech giant. Daniel's job was especially interesting. Bottom line: it was enjoyable but predictable. Taylor's book is next but I don't feel much motivation to pick it up. London was my favorite so when her story comes out I may be more interested. Soft pick.

The idea seemed great. I just did not like either of the MCs. The dialogue was that unnatural trying to be witty type.(has anyone ever high fived someone for a witty comment?) The three women have the same personality. Just didn‘t work for me. #bookspinbingo done though!

The Boyfriend Project is the perfect uplifting rom com about strong women.

I absolutely loved The Boyfriend Project. I read a chapter sampler on NetGalley and have been impatiently waiting to read the rest of the book.

The Boyfriend Project is an own voices novel.

I listened to the audiobook and Je Nie Flemming did an excellent job narrating.

This wonderful contemporary romance dives into female friendships, Black women in technology, and the importance of mentoring young people. Our wide-ranging discussion also covers her writing career, her romance recommendations, and (in our Give Me One segment) some of our favorite Broadway musicals.

A contemporary, light romcom set in the tech world of Austin, Texas. I enjoyed the strong female friendships and the office romance. There was enough of a mystery to move the plot along and provide tension between the main characters. It seems this is the first in a series and I'll definitely check out the next one.

On the surface this seemed to have all of the ingredients I would normally love, but something about it just didn't click for me. I loved to see the strong female friendships and the fact that the lead is a successful black woman in the tech industry, but the rest of the story and the chemistry between the two MCs fell a bit flat.

Vansa Those were my issues with this book too! Mainly the main characters, I'm not too convinced about their relationship. Still really enjoyed the other parts of the story! 4y

3/5. Let me preface this by saying I had really high hopes for this one but for me it DRAGGED. I loved the diversity in the characters and really liked the female lead but other than that the story was really boring and predictable. Granted, I don‘t usually love a romance book but still. Not my favorite.

I really wanted to like this! Unpopular opinion.
1. The storylines felt incompatible to me. Samiah and her friends were so relatable and realistic. Daniel‘s story felt outlandish.
2. He also felt whiny to me. Keeping secrets is hard, we get it.
3. I hate when romance writers say, “It felt just like a rom-com!” 🙄
Also, and this isn‘t their fault, just bad timing, but...nobody in this book was social distancing...

Ash.on.the.line # 3 YES! 🙄 😂 or when they say “if this was one of those cheesy romance novels” or something like that. 4y

Farrah Rochon's The Boyfriend Project is a smart, forward-thinking, genre-bending contemporary romance. Centered on the relationship between new co-workers at Trendsetters, a progressive IT company, The Boyfriend Project has plenty of steam, a compelling plot, and some fabulous characters. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod There‘s so much to love about this book. Samiah is the only Black woman at her office, and Rochon vividly depicts the pressure she is under to succeed both for herself and for those Black women who may come after her. 4y

Yay! I finally finished this one last night. I don't know why it took me a good two weeks to read it. It was definitely me and not the book because overall, it is pretty good. The romance is solid and I like how David and Samiah work in the tech world. That makes for an interesting setting. I'm guessing Taylor's story is next. I may pick that one up.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book. I loved the MCs as well as the side characters. I loved that there was a friendship formed between these ladies when society tries to pit us against each other.

I really enjoyed the storylines as well. I was invested in seeing how everything was going to pan out. It was a lot of fun. I couldn‘t listen to this fast enough.

The romance wasn‘t super steamy but I liked the easy going nature of it. It felt real.

Money laundering & contemporary romance is an interesting mix, & it worked—mostly. This was fun & cute, overall enjoyable read. LOVE a Black female MC who‘s a tech genius & kicks ass at her job. Would like to know Samiah IRL. Daniel was also a good character, not macho or overbearing. But I never felt super invested in how things would pan out—the crime thing ended lackluster, drama & tech talk was a bit overdone. But a fun light read! 3/5 ⭐️

Samiah reached over and covered her hand. “You know, hon, money isn‘t everything.”

Taylor pulled her hand away. “Says the one with the fancy-ass downtown condo and high-paying tech job.”

So I realized that in order for me to enjoy contemporary romance something has to actually happen. It can‘t just be a romance with drama thrown in. This book fit the bill! It‘s the first “office” romance I‘ve read. I only started reading contemporary romance within the last year or so.

I really liked this book. Samiah is a Black woman in STEM and she really lays out how hard it is in the field or any field really. Daniel was also a dreamboat👇🏻

Laughterhp Their flirting in the workplace was extremely sexy and they had lots of steamy scenes! I would definitely recommend this book to contemporary romance lovers. #ReadYourSign - Spirit color (blue); #booked2020 - Red, White or Blue writing on cover 4y
