The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse is a creepy thrilling locked door mystery about a sanatorium turned into a hotel. After an avalanche, someone turns up missing. People are killed, so someone in the hotel has to be the killer. Red herrings are dropped making different people seem guilty.

Eternal by Lisa Scottoline is a beautiful story of World War II in Italy starting with teenagers before the war and lasting decades. I love Scottoline‘s thrillers, so was curious about her writing historical fiction. Eternal is so beautiful, I am shocked it is Scottoline‘s first historical fiction novel.

The Rose Code is an interesting book. I liked how this book is a mix of a historical fiction novel and mystery. World War II is my favorite time period to read about and the aspect of trying to figure out who is responsible for one of them entering an asylum. I was intrigued by the dual time.

I LOVED The Lost Apothecary. From the very beginning I was drawn into Nella and Caroline‘s stories. The past and present intertwine in this great novel. The chapters alternate between Nella and Caroline‘s stories. These characters are complex and trying to do the best they can.

Noni starts this journey still not over a long term relationship that ended eighteen months ago. Noni is a complex character that is relatable at least to some extent. Her trip does not go as planned. Noni ends up in hilarious awkward situations.

I really enjoyed Gone Too Soon. I was instantly invested in all of the characters. This made it very emotional when Lisa passes away. Gone Too Soon is an interesting and unique story. I thought I wanted something to happen in the book, but Atkins had other plans that I liked much better.

Lola on Fire had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. There is so much action in this book. I really enjoyed the story and liked how it was mainly action but there was also family drama mixed in. I liked the characters. Brody is trying to do the best he can.

When We Met is an emotional rollercoaster. Mann draws the reader to the characters from the very beginning. Whitney and Caleb have a great romance. Then, Mann confuses everyone with an unexpected turn. There is no way to explain it without ruining it but the reader falls in love with the characters all over again.

The Girl at the Back of the Bus is one of my new favorite books. The story was very moving and impactful. There is so much emotion and important descriptions of the life of a black woman in 1955 and present day.
