Fun read! Creepy as it gets going. I looked up from reading yesterday and realized my internet was out and my phone dead. I was cut off just like the town in the book. Just as scary as the Sasquatch!

Slow start, but about halfway through it picked up. Legit scared of Bigfoot now and being isolated after a natural disaster.

A soft pick. I particularly enjoyed Judy Greer‘s narration as Kate, a new arrival in a closed community who finds herself in danger and pursued by Sasquatches. The story wasn‘t quite as scary / intense as I‘d hoped, but was good fun for a stressful September.

#unpopularopinion A lot of people seemed to enjoy this book, but I'm bailing after 75 pages, past my usual 50 page make or break point. I don't like any of the characters and it's just not keeping my attention.

Holy cats, was this great! Written as journal entries and interviews, this is horrifying story of a perfect storm of a volcanic eruption, inept city folk moving to an ill-prepared, high tech “green” community, and….Sasquatch. Only Bigfoot isn‘t a shy, gentle giant—the creatures are cunning, strong, vicious and actually very scary. I listened to the audiobook which has a marvelous cast. Very well done all around.

Yes to this book! Read for a book club and so glad I did! Wouldn‘t have been on my radar otherwise. I need more survivalist/ dystopian/ end of the world as we know it in my reading life. 4⭐️

Catching up on my book reviews from past 2 months. This was a so-so read but a hoot for sure. A good audio read. Mt. Rainier blows up and makes sasquatch ornery. The bigfoots go after a bunch of rich techies who have created a planned community on the east of Mt. Rainier. What's not to love about that?

Finished my first #scarathlon #teammonstermash book tonight, and it was fantastic! I literally could not put it down! The audio was very well done and the story was so fun. @StayCurious

I apparently finished this on October 31, 2020. Completely appropriate. I'm a little bummed I don't have it to read this year, because it was really, really fun. Especially the audio version, as it has a full cast. It's superb! An excellent choice for a #creature feature :-)

Wow,This one was seriously good. It took me by suppose, and embodied Bigfoot lore perfectly. 4/5 ⭐️

Watch for the Squatch! This was such a fun and entertaining page-turner. The story unfolds via diary entries, interviews and news reports. I raced through it in one afternoon a couple summers back.

Starting this one today for a change of pace.

I admit, a digital detox has an appeal. But this is the second book I've read this weekend where it turns out not so well for the characters...

I liked this even more than World War Z. It's a bit gory in places but a gripping story about disaster, survival and Sasquatch. I definitely recommend the full-cast audiobook.

I really like the way Max Brooks tells a narrative. Interweaving interviews, snippets from cryptozoological text, and diary entries in this case. And I enjoy how the suspense builds up through the book.

Following the eruption of mount rainier, Greenloop are cut off from the world. They can‘t go for help, and something is moving through the forests towards them.

I powered through this one as I really needed to know what happened next!

I had so much fun reading this (had to move away from the window the night I stayed up to 2am to finish!)! I loved World War Z and Devolution didn‘t disappoint! As a child, I was certain that Sasquatch was alive & well & living in CT. I saw myself in so many of the references and to this day I‘m known for my Tall Man love! I have multiple stickers, T-shirts, & a Squatch air freshener hanging from my rear view mirror. Yes, a perfect match for me!

Loved this book! I‘m usually not so quick to pick up anything labeled “horror” but I‘m so glad I was with this one! I was hooked from the beginning and it kept me turning page after page. I couldn‘t put it down! Even when it was the middle of the night and I was CERTAIN the creatures were waiting outside my window for me, I had to keep reading to find out where the story was going to go. Absolutely recommend!

My greatest achievement was recognizing my own potential. Greatest challenge was/is not making excuses for people and accepting them as they are.

I read some awesome books, but I have to pick Devolution.

In 2022, I want to deepen the awesome, new friendships I have made in 2021 and to grow my circle even more.

I never knew I needed such a book about Bigfoot, but I‘m so glad it exists and that I read it.

I loved the way this was mostly told through journal entries, but also incorporated interviews, documentaries, and other excerpts from radio shows and scientific articles. It gave the story an amazing fullness, let the reader anticipate what was going to happen, and backed up the natural progression of action by making everything seem possible 👣🌋🏡

Holy Hell! I really didn't know what to expect going into this book. I'm not typically a big fan of cryptozoology books. The format really worked for this subject-the story is revealed through journal entries, interviews, & news articles. The suspense builds at a steady pace & the ending explodes with action. The author builds on that little anxiety that exists in all of us, even if we don't believe, about what lives in the woods.👣

This book got me thinking. This is the first book Ive ever read about Bigfoot. How far of a stretch would it be for it to be non-fiction? The way that this book is written makes it very convincing. The idea of it freaks me out a bit. If nothing else, it was a good and quick read.

Pick! Pick! Pick! If you like World War Z style character account books, I believe you will enjoy Devolution. Bigfoot is not a monster/urban legend creature I usually care for, but because it was Brooks I gave it a shot. I may be a Bigfoot fan now. Character development was great, the storyline was very intense and I was scared walking my dog near the woods while listening to the book. 😂 #bookspin #doublespin

I got a kick out of listening to the audiobook for this Sasquatch horror novel by Max Brooks. It has a full cast, led by Judy Greer, with Nathan Fillion, Terry Gross, Kate Mulgrew, and more. Part diary, part interview, part scientific treatise, Devolution was an entertaining, darkly funny, and...violently gross ride. 😜🦶

I enjoyed this slow burning thriller! Told through diary entries and interviews, this had a true-crime documentary feel and Max Brooks left you to draw your own interpretations a lot of the time. An unreliable narrator and an unresolved mystery just add to the realistic feel. I did have a niggle with the characters though - some were richly drawn but a lot of them lacked depth, possibly due to the diary format. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

Hands down one of the best thrillers I‘ve ever read. It was simultaneously scary, gruesome, and entertaining. I‘ve always been enthralled with the concept of Bigfoot, so I couldn‘t wait to read this. Once I started, I could not stop. I even had nightmares a few times when I read it before bed. What a great and interesting read! I‘d highly recommend!!

Max Brooks has done me in again. This book slowly strips away one woman‘s modern problems until all she is left with is the will to survive.

A planned community in the wilds is confronted with an unexpected threat after Mt Rainier erupts, cutting them off from the rest of society. The primary narrator, Kate, is anxious and non-confrontational, but as their situation becomes increasingly dire, she is taken under the wing of an experienced survivor, and develops newfound strength. This was an interesting premise, and mostly good, but ultimately a horror novel. Do not read while camping.

I enjoyed this book but didn‘t fall in love with it quite like I had anticipated. A strong female character narrates and while slow to build I was hooked by the end.

My current audiobook is a good post-holiday distraction.

Took quite awhile to get over the weak female protagonist (I understand character growth and evolution but seriously?), but the story got much better once the background was told and things started happening

In an effort to save her marriage, Kate has moved to Greenloop. Created as a new eco-community with the latest technology for every, and it seems like a dream and a fresh start. This was all true until Mt Reiner erupted. Everything changed and a few weeks later, USGS officials and others come across a battlefield which was once Greenloop. This is the story of what happened to Kate, Greenloop, and an unforeseen encounter with Sasquatch.

This was almost a so-so for me, but I think since I just read World War Z that my expectations may have been too high.

Overall, Brooks writes a fun tale involving murders, a family of sasquatch, and the humans who refuse to fall victim to them.

It's definitely not as well done as WWZ, but still a good read.

Listening to the tagged book while starting this puzzle. I need something to distract my mind and keep my hands busy today.

I didn‘t know I needed a book about a Sasquatch attack in my life, but I did! This was fun, gruesome and even a little sad. I agree with the comments about the writer of the found journal, Kate, being a little annoying but that changes as things progress. It‘s been a while since I read World War Z, but I might have liked this one a bit more.

I may have to revisit on audio, because I saw someone mention Nathan Fillion. #Screamathon #BookspinBingo
