“The history of slavery is the history of the United States” but sadly most of us have been given a whitewashed education. So Clint Smith gives us the history lesson we all should of been taught. By visiting several historical sites linked to the Civil War, we first get the “official “guided tour version & then Smith respectfully & insightfully poses his own questions & observations. Very well done. A bit repetitive but that‘s the point.

Cinfhen I really think you‘re gonna like this @Megabooks 1w

Megabooks @Cinfhen thanks! I need to check it out from the library! 1w

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 1w
Cinfhen That‘s wonderful @melissanorr it‘ll make for great discussion 1w
Chelsea.Poole Great review and I agree! I learned so much reading this. 1w
Megabooks Looking forward to it! 1w
MallenNC I‘m so glad you had a chance to read this one. I think it was my number one book choice of last year, and definitely one I still think about. @Megabooks I know you like audiobooks — this one is read by the author, and I really liked hearing his voice while I read my print copy. 6d

I have had this book on my TBR for a while, and my #NewYearWhoDis list from @vonnie862 gave me the nudge I needed to bump it up a priority level. I'm so glad I did because this book was honestly delightful. Elwes is so warm and friendly throughout, with a very upbeat view of the making of The Princess Bride. I loved the additional memories from other members of the cast and crew throughout as well. If you are looking for some "dirt" you'll be ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) disappointed. But if you want some fun little facts and anecdotes, along with reassurance that this cast really was having as much fun as they appeared to be, you should enjoy this one. There were so many fun and interesting moments - I'm excited to pass this one around my family before we all get together for a rewatch!! One minor quibble - it would have been quite nice to have a cast list somewhere - I had to look up to see which names⬇ 2w
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) matched which characters and write them on my bookmark!

#WickedWords - Castle @AsYouWish (appropriate username for this book LOL)
AsYouWish When I tell you I love that movie and that man, it is an understatement. He may have been my first crush at the age of 2…. This may explain a lot of my life‘s choices… story for another time, lol!!!!! 2w

vonnie862 And the audio is so much fun. I listened to it while reading the physical book. 2w
TheAromaofBooks @AsYouWish - I'm totally with you!! Westley and Gilbert (Jonathan Crombie ❤) were definitely my first fictional crushes, and may have led to unrealistic expectations later in life 😂 2w
TheAromaofBooks @vonnie862 - Ooo that does sound fun. We're getting ready to go on a road trip, and I am thinking I may find this one on audiobook to listen to on the way, since my husband hasn't read it yet. 2w

Another great #NYWD rec from @Amiable about a passionate young Nigerian woman who is determined to have a “louding voice” and make her own way despite all the odds and abuses stacked against her. Also a great #audiobook.

#BookSpin and #DoubleBookSpin for May!
Thank you @TheAromaofBooks ☺️
Maude West is a leftover from @Mitch ‘s #NYWD list and this is just the push I needed to get going on it!
Also, I‘ve been looking forward to Solace quite sometime!

EJG31 A Town Called Solace is very good. My favourite of hers is Crow Lake. 3w
Mitch Yeah! Enjoy! 3w
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 3w
Chelsea.Poole @EJG31 there‘s lots of love for her here! I am looking forward to this one and I may get around to Crow Lake if Solace is a winner ☺️ 3w
kwmg40 I loved both A Town Called Solace and Crow Lake! 2w

Today's #weeklyforecast ... I may have lost my mind! 😂 As you can see, the windowsill, with May's additions, is now STUFFED full!! The bottom picture is of all of May's chapter-a-day(ish) reads. I'm actually enjoying Gone With the Wind more than I thought I would, and I'm really excited about the various #PemberLittens reads. The Fall of the Ottomans is an intriguing focus on that area of WWI, and As You Wish is for #NYWD The backwards book is ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) this month's #BookSpin because I MAY have already drawn the numbers!!

In the windowsill - I started the tagged book yesterday and am so looking forward to this entire series (hopefully the rest come in the mail this week). I'm still using a random draw to decide what windowsill book comes next. I've left myself more free spaces on my bingo board this month so that I can fill in some of my backlog. I'm actually still stoked about all of ⬇
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) these. Maybe I should stop working on my 100% RDR2 completion and spend more evenings reading!! 😁 @Cinfhen 3w
Cinfhen Hahaha 😁What does hubby think of the overstuffed windowsill?? I think mine would FREAK OUT 🤪 3w
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - Wellll this window is in my little office area so he doesn't really see it 😂 Although in general he says books have “good vibes“ and never objects to them being stacked all over the place - and he's built a BUNCH of shelves for me, so he's a keeper!!! 3w
Cinfhen He‘s SUCH a KEEPER!!!!! Awesomesauce !!!!! 3w

Sometimes unintentional trends emerge in my reading. In February, I read Crying in H Mart (a #NewYearWhoDis pick) and Kitchen, both focused on the loss of a mother. In early March, I read Wintering (my January #BookSpin and a #NYWD pick), on weathering times of difficulty & grief. In late March, my mother was placed on hospice, and she passed away two weeks ago. This trio of timely books so recently read has been an odd preparation & a comfort.⤵️

tpixie I‘m so sorry to learn of the loss of your mother. May your memories lift your heavy heart. 1mo
BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) The tagged book came up as my April #BookSpin… reading the description today, I‘m not sure if it‘s a timely read or if it‘s too soon. But I‘m picking it up today as I suspect it may be a comforting addition to the trio of books I read leading up to April. It‘s a blessing when the right books show up at the right time. 💜 1mo
BarbaraJean @tpixie Thank you so much, Teri! 💜 1mo

Finished Lessons in Chemistry last night ( adorable) and was meant to start Astronaut Wives Club…but Fault Lines came in overnight from library hold so I‘m having an interruption in programming 😉It still works for #ThingsInCommon as both books are debuts & cover colors seems to match!! Widows of Malabar Hills is for bookclub so that‘s coming up to!! Both Widows & Memory of Love feature gold foil on the cover & woman wearing headscarf 🧕 💜

LeeRHarry I hope you enjoy Fault Lines - I loved it 😊 and I enjoyed The Widows book too (edited) 1mo
BarbaraBB Great thinking. I have been thinking of reading Memory of Love too. (edited) 1mo

Cinfhen Memory of Love is work @BarbaraBB writing is gorgeous but it‘s a very intricate maze of stories. I‘m on page 250 and I‘m still not sure where this book is going (edited) 1mo
BarbaraBB Hmm, I‘ll think about it a bit longer. 1mo
TrishB Be interested to see what you think of Fault Lines. I have on my kindle and not got to. 1mo
Cinfhen So far it‘s just ok @TrishB but it‘s short and I love that!! 1mo

Cinfhen I can send you my copy when I finish reading it @BarbaraBB 1mo
BarbaraBB Thank you so much but I think I‘ll look for an alternative since you‘re not that enthusiastic and it‘s kind of a chunkster I think…. 1mo

Excellent #NYWD rec from @Amiable: probably my first war strategy book. The history of war planes before and during World War II, focusses on how new technology meant that very specific targets could be used with less deaths, leading to conflict in the USAF and between them and Britain over this method on Germany and Japan vs “carpet bombing.” Very intriguing analysis of war ethics I shared with fellow peaceniks.

Amiable I'm so thrilled that you loved this one! I was mesmerized by it. Gladwell is SUCH an engaging author and narrator. 1mo
