Oh Calamity!
I just loved this. I watched the series and it was incredibly close, and I pictured it all California & Reese Witherspoon the whole time, but I can say it‘s worth a watch or a read, maybe both.

IMASLOWREADER obsessed with this one too and the show whoa!!! oh and the soundtrack was amazing too 13mo

Writing was very well done, loved it, the VERY RARE case of I liked the tv show ending better (and some other little things) but the authors way is more realistic

After all of the hype from the mini-series, I finally read this. Enjoyed quite a bit--dark and funny--my favorite combination! Does this mean I'll see the series? We'll see. I'm a stickler for always preferring the book over the movie.

Favorite Quote: “It was interesting how you could say things when you were walking that you might not otherwise have said with the pressure of eye contact across a table.”

I have put this book off for so long. I started the show forever ago but never finished it. I'm glad I finally got the push to push to pick it up!

So much more enjoyable than I expected it to be. A little on the predictable side but also a little twist or two I wasn't quite expecting. I'd read the author again!

This was a fantastic listen. Imagine the elementary parents‘ group at their absolute cattiest. It‘s like playing a game of telephone, with the worst possible outcome. There are laugh-out-loud moments and plenty of aggravating ones. (I‘m so glad my last child is almost out of high school, and we can leave these types of back-biting social climbers behind, for good.) This is another great read from Liane Moriarty. Highly recommend.

A sad story of the violence done to women and how it affects their lives and those around them. There‘s also a mystery in the background of someone‘s death. Hope also runs in the background. It dragged in some places but I‘m glad I stayed with it.

I‘ve been watching this Big Little Lies adaptation (which I‘ve wanted to watch since it came out and just remembered I have HBO) this is really good, I should actually read a Liane Moriarty instead of just watching.

I didn‘t know what to expect but I thought the novel would be a little soapy with a lot of drama. “Oh calamity!” I was right. It took way too long for me to care what happened at the trivia night. It was a pick in the end because of the relationships. The trio, Madeline, Celeste and Jane were the key female friends but Moriarty also explored parent/child, wife/husband, sibling and frenemies. The last half was mostly worth the wait. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I ❤️ Liane Moriarty! This is the second of her books that I‘ve read and it‘s fantastic! Twists and turns, complex characters, and a story line that draws the reader in. This is one of those books that you can‘t put down until you‘re done!

marleed Are you just now enjoying this book for the first time? I‘m love that! One of my favorite things about Litsy is when a review pops up on my newsfeed to remind me of a book I loved just as much as its current reader! It what makes books so awesome. 2y

I am in floods of tears. What an amazing storyteller Moriarty is. I couldn't put this book down. Madeleine is bolshy and ballsy but vulnerable in her own way; Jane is defiant and brave but seems so fragile; and Celeste is the one that everyone assumes is fine but is living a lie. It picked on so many themes of being a woman and motherhood, as well as friendship and relationships, and I loved the interviews at the start of each chapter. Excellent!

Wow. This book was full of drama. It tackles big subjects while still remaining entertaining. The writing is joyful and frivolous without ever making light of the serious issues within its pages.

Big little lies took me on an emotional rollercoaster with its three main characters. I felt their anger, their jealousy, their pain and their joy.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars

... And then there are ladies like me who cant be bothered to bake OR accessorize ??

@Yuki_Onna "Pickles is a model" ???? She does not look impressed at being roped into modelling my new read..

Started this today. So far I'm recognising Moriarty's style. Chatty, multiple POV, lively and quirky. I don't know how much the emphasis will be on the mystery and how much will be on the drama, but I'm excited to find out.

Here are my #roll100 books as randomly selected by @PuddleJumper

Both have been on my TBR for far too long!

The only other Liane Moriarty book I read started out strong, but got silly very quickly. I'm hoping this one is better as Nine Perfect Strangers had promise.

I'll start on Neurotribes once I've finished Black and British.

Zoes_Human I liked this one FAR better than Nine Perfect Strangers. 2y
RaeLovesToRead @Zoes_Human That's great news 😁 Hopefully I'll like it! 2y
LiteraryinLawrence I think I‘ve read all of Liane Moriarty‘s books and Nine Perfect Strangers was my least favorite. This one is much more representative of her style, so if you like it you can read her whole backlist! 😁 2y

There is alot of build up as the first chapter starts off with the murder, but as Moriarty writes with a deft light hand it was all fairly enjoyable. A surprisingly frothy book which tackles domestic violence and murder. I saw about half of the plot twist coming but the other half did surprise me.
Will now toodle off and watch the tv series. 😂😂

I really enjoyed this book. There is a richness and a realness to the characters that was refreshing for a thriller. Jane moves her and her son, Ziggy to a new town. During his kindergarten orientation he gets accused of trying to strangle one of his classmates and then the entire town seems to turn against him.

This was a great book to listen to (~15 hrs) during a 20 hr road trip back home after the holidays 🚗 Fast moving plot that made the miles pass by. This book seems to have garnered a lot of hype, and though it‘s not my usual book of choice, I can see why— its a great story, with a plot twist I somehow didn‘t see coming, and about characters whose behavior was so realistic. I laughed and gasped and exclaimed aloud!
