New episode is up and out! We go in depth on William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. There's a lot of depth to this seemingly fluffy and "silly" play. We also discuss possible modern adaptations. Enjoy!

On Saturday, I went to my favourite Shakespeare festival since early July 2019. Other than the last couple of years and one other year I didn‘t go, I have gone to this festival since I was 13 (I‘m 42). I went with a friend of mine and had a wonderful time. Weather wasn‘t great, but it wasn‘t horrible. #litevents #shakespeare #shakespearefestival

Sparklemn I'm so jealous. I'd love to go to a Shakespeare festival! I went to a small community theater staging of Midsummer Night's Dream today and it was fantastic.

melissajayne @Sparklemn I feel very fortunate that I live in an area that has this; it‘s my favourite thing to do in summer months. 5mo

I have now officially read everything this man wrote. I think this one is my favorite. Years ago when I read all of the other plays (AP English class teacher who only thought the bard was worth teaching) loved all his work but this one. Color me confused by that. Anyhow another classic has been read by me this year #theclassics

peanutnine This is my favorite of his as well! I can't believe your teacher taught them all but this one, how strange! 6mo
KristiAhlers @peanutnine right? The guy was so weird. He‘d eat granola bars and get so worked up he‘d spray anyone dumb enough to sit in the front row. Needless to say we all tried to cram into the back of the classroom 6mo

#NationalPoetryMonth Day 14: No question about it, Macbeth is my favorite poetic work that I have read so far by the Bard. Yet, I have been deeply moved by several other plays & characters, most recently it was Puck in Midsummer Night's Dream. One of my favorite passages was his final speech which in a way operates as an optimistic version of Macbeth's,

I‘m sadly lacking in Shakespeare, so I‘m slowly working on that. Hubby said I must have paid by the pound for this book 😆

Familiar story but beautifully told. When kiddo was four I took her to this ballet, and she was mesmerized. We won a raffle for a beautifully costumed AG-type doll, and kiddo named her Titania. Hard to believe I‘d never read a play we love so well in other forms.

TiredLibrarian That's a fun one. I remember seeing an outdoor production at our local art/community center, which is a great setting for that one!

@AkashaVampie just got herself a book tattoo and asked me to share mine!
I forgot that I technically have 2, since the quote on my arm is from my favorite Shakespeare play. I feel like it describes me pretty well
My most recent is the open book on my back. In my head I call it "books are magic" ✨✨
I designed the open book and pages, the tattoo artist did the coloring based on a vague description I gave him lol

#booktattoo ?

AkashaVampie Thanks for showing me. I love the colors on ur back. I think in the future I will get more but will space them out since its a lot of money and it hurts (haha). It will give me time to really think of what I want. Next one is going to be a family one with hubby and sons names on them. 2y

Now, fair Hippolyta, our nuptial hour
Draws on apace; four happy days bring in
Another moon; but, oh, methinks, how slow
This old moon wanes! she lingers my desires,
Like to a step-dame or a dowager,
Long withering out a young man‘s revenue.

Mistaken identity & the madness of love are the two big themes of this comedy. There's also a lot of great poetry in it & some of the comedy still really delivers. The most interesting conceit for me is to be found in the final speech, delivered by Puck in which theatre is compared to a dream. One of the more memorable closing speeches in a Shakespeare. Overall not one of my favorite works by him but I will always remember certain aspects.

One of my favorite plays by the Bard. Magical and lighthearted, but with a moral. Perhaps more of a fun one to read, though there are still parts (as in all of Shakespeare's plays) that drag on with seemingly little impact on the larger plot. Contains some of the most recognizable characters of faerie lore now peppered throughout popular culture.

There are only a few books I own that I‘ll put on eczema gloves to read. This is one of them. The illustrations are exquisite. Too bad I take such awful pictures. It isn‘t one of my prime valuable books but I don‘t want to Cheeto-finger it.

Now for the play itself: it has it moments but I wouldn‘t consider this one of his more feminist-friendly texts. I look forward to viewing a few different versions though. #SummersEndReadathon #24B4Monday
