#JulyJourneys #StagePlay

Love this play! I read it for a class in collage. And then a year or so after a local play company performed it!

Andrea313 This is such a wonderful play! 😍 3y
Eggs Sounds good📚📚 3y
CrowCAH @Andrea313 I agree. It was one from the class that stuck with me a bit more. Loved the math reference! 3y

The last #StagePlay I was slated to see before the shutdown was the Broadway debut of my colleague and friend, playwright Noah Haidle. I was so disappointed last March when things were put on hold, but luckily his play, Birthday Candles, WILL have its Broadway opening this spring! Audiences in NYC, don't miss it! #JulyJourneys

This prompt reminds me of the first musical I‘ve watched and loved #stageplay #julyjourneys @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

Andrea313 I take some flak for it, but I like Cats, too. Did you see the movie? Any thoughts on it? 3y

SusanLee @Andrea313 tbh, it‘s incomparable to the real stage! I felt like I‘m a part of a memorable play whereas the movie was more of who is who 😅 Honestly as I was more excited at the famous casts than the movie itself. This is just me though, how about you? 3y
Andrea313 @SusanLee I felt like the movie was about what I expected- a weird and lackluster adaptation that shouldn't have been attempted. Of all the musicals to try to translate to the screen, I have no idea why they chose that one! It is such a specific piece that really relies on theatrical convention to work well, IMO. 3y
SusanLee @Andrea313 I do agree on that too ! 3y

Day 26 - #Stageplay

This is the only stage play that I will always love ❤ (even if it's not 'real' because part of a wonderful movie)

witchyreader13 My favorite Shakespeare is Much Ado About Nothing. The Disney company made a movie out of it in the 90's with Emma Thompson that I absolutely love. 3y

Ast_Arslan @abooknerdsparadise I still have to read Much Ado Abouth Nothing... I also guess I've missed the movie 🤔 I will check, I love Emma ❤ 3y

This will complete my reading of three plays from August Wilson's Century Cycle. This one is set in a Pittsburgh boarding house; August, 1911. I love being able to relate a time frame to a family member's lifetime. My Dad was born just the month before. My maternal grandmother was age 19. Her firstborn, my Mother, didn't come along until four years later. The talk of the steel industry also hits home. #CenturyCycle #StagePlay

Having seen the movie trailer, my mind's eye saw Viola Davis' "Rose" throughout this read. Happy scenes, sad scenes -- Viola was who I saw. But my mind registered relatives and friends. This quote is a testament to how a woman loves her man. Brings Aretha's "Try a Little Tenderness" to mind.

?I may get weary.
Women do get weary
wearin' the same shabby dress.
But to one who's weary . . .
try a little . . . try a little tenderness.?

Melkyl That scene blew me away. Her acting was so powerful. I agree that it brought to mind the powerful women I have been blessed to have known. 7y
Donna_sBookMinute @Melwink -- I can't wait to see it this weekend. I think it's gonna make me reminisce. They are both such great actors. 7y
Posemn What a great review @Donna_sBookMinute. I am really looking forward to seeing this movie ( and now I will stack the book as well) plus sing "try a little tenderness" all night now I suspect. ? 7y

Donna_sBookMinute @Posemn -- Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed my post. And you're right about the song. I was hearing it as I prepared cookies for the oven and freezer. Last year I learned that when a song works it's way into your head like that, it's called an "ear worm." Makes sense. (edited) 7y
